The Evelyn Hotel

3.5 out of 5.0

The hotel is located next to the Museum of Sex which has a bar playing loud music late at night which I could hear from my room and ruined my sleep. There are many outlets in the room but the one beside my bed wasn’t working. The smoke alarm went off out of nowhere. Part of the reason why I chose this hotel was bc their website shows large windows with a lot of natural light but my room had zero windows looking outside. I have no idea what I was looking at through those windows. However the hotel is located in a good area with a lot to eat, see and do, the staff was very friendly, and the room was very clean.

Room's at the Evelyn always have a very comfortable bed, and adequate closet storage space. Looking forward to the remodel when a bar will be in the hotel, as well as hopes that they will add minibar items to the room. Overall high quality for the price.

I needed a nice comfortable room in the city for one night while in between apartments for under $160. I was under impression my room would have a full bath and that the hotel would at least have a place in reception area to sit and have coffee or use internet or something -but it had nothing to make me comfortable. The staff was pleasant - they gave me 10% off but that was not nearly enough.

Wife and daughter stayed in Evelyn for a NYC weekend trip and were very impressed with the facility and how hospitable the staff treated them. Rooms were modern and clean, bathroom reminded them of European hotel with deluge and wand.

Love the art deco feel. Clean, comfortable and great price. Friendly staff and delicious free pastries and coffee in the lobby the next morning. Great alternative to a chain. This place has personality! I couldn't help but wonder how many people has passed through the lobby dressed in elegant gowns of an era gone by.

94 degree day AC out The charm of the Gershwin gone Disappointed

Rooms are nice clean, lobby and elevator need updating....

I came back after six months and the construction is still going on, however, this renovation seems to be a successful. Most of the staff were very nice, they work so hard and remembering me, it is important for good hospitality.

I like this hotel because of the best location to everywhere in Manhattan.

The hotel was under construction during our stay (June '16). The rooms are complete and decently appointed, but the lobby was just a stripped down shell and the one working elevator was extremely slow. My other beef was that it took at least 5 minutes for the water to heat up in the shower. If you're looking for a cheaper option as a launchpad for NYC, it's an adequate spot, but know what you're getting into, as the front desk told us construction was expected to continue for a another year.

Small room which is par for the course in NYC if you're not going premium. Wish the nightstands had storage as there is only one small drawer and a couple of shelves for clothing storage. Fridge is good for storing leftovers or beverages. The safe is small - we fit two iPads, an UltraBook and some jewelry, but it will not accommodate a full-size laptop. Room faced inwards and was VERY dark, even on bright sunny days. Free WiFi worked without a glitch, and room includes several outlets and USB charging plugs. Bed very comfortable. Rainfall shower ran well but the water temperature fluctuated greatly. Nice CO Bigelow toiletries. Only one elevator and it runs very slowly - we were on 4th floor and took the stairs most of the time. Free small pastries in the lobby each morning. Staff was helpful the hotel has luggage storage. They offer car service (example rate $90 to EWR). The place is undergoing renovations but we didn't hear construction noise - had to use an alternate entryway one time, and the second elevator is dedicated to usage for the workers. We were two people in a King room I'd recommend The Evelyn more for a single person in a Full or Queen bed so the room doesn't feel so confined. Still if you're like me and need some morning sunlight to get you energized for the day, this isn't the place for you. It's just a couple of blocks from the Lex (6), Bway (NR) and 6th Ave (BDFM) subways. Short walk to these recommended attractions and eateries: Macy's, Flatiron Building, ESB, Eataly, Madison Square Park/Shake Shack, Union Square, Gramercy Tavern, Bagels & Schmear, Blue Smoke/Jazz Standard, Haldi Indian Restaurant, Flatiron Room, Flatiron Hall, Belgian Beer Hall.

Beautiful sleek room and cozy bed not worth the price unless you book third party

The hotel is decent for its price and location. It's old and abit dirty. Though the bedroom is comfort and the staffs are nice, we always have a feeling that something bad could happen to us while we were there. It was under construction when we stayed.

Had not visited this hotel before which has undergone a recent makeover...the room was very nice, very clean and very comfortable. There was a glitch with the television but otherwise everything was great.

The location of the hotel is great. The staff are friendly and try to do everything possible. However, the windows are DRAFTY! After complaining, they sent someone up to "close" the windows, which still didn't work. Honestly, have no idea what they did. The toilet broke twice, which was annoying. After the room was fixed with the toilet, the person adjusted our room temperature and lights, which we discovered upon our return. Thus the room was cold with the drafty windows. Also, it took forever to use the one and only elevator. Also, the WiFi is something to be desired. After calling about it, we were told that it was working and there is nothing they could do. The hotel was discouraging for claiming 3 stars. When checking out, the hotel staff didn't even ask how my hotel stay was, which I found absurd. Like I said, lot's of discouraging problems with relatively little help, but friendly staff.

The hotel staff here were in general AMAZING. They do everything they can to make your stay and experience great! The hotel is also amazingly located just a 10-20 minute walk from all the best parts of Manhattan! The building itself is very old, so the water in the rooms is quite weak and not very warm... and the elevators are quite slow! Other than that, the hotel is great for a cheap weekend getaway!

This hotel has the potential to be great but we stayed during the renovation so it is really difficult to review it fairy. There was only one elevator working, no lobby to speak of, no coffee shop, and one day no hot water. Despite all of that, we actually had a decent time. The staff is friendly, the rooms clean (though small), and the location cannot be beat. I would maybe stay again but not during renovation.

Very cozy, even the heater wasnt working properly. The hotel was very clean and comfy.

As for a place to stay the rooms are a bit like a dorm. However when in nyc why would you stay in your room? The lobby resturant and location are all fantastic.

We (a small family of three) stayed at the Evelyn for two nights. This hotel was still in the process of renovating so the lobby wasn't quite ready but it was already quite charming. We booked a room with king-sized bed and we really liked how the room was decorated. It was elegant yet modern. I especially loved the shower. The size of the room is okay for NYC standard. Overall a wonderful stay. I'd recommend this little hotel. As for the location, this hotel is great. It's minutes of walking to Subway stations, Flatiron building, the Empire State building, and many little cafes nearby.
