Great time! Excellent staff. It was my wife's birthday and they were nice enought to have a bottle of champagne in the room. Breakfast was wonderful. The roof was fun!

The hotel is really nice. The public advisors as they’re called, are super friendly and helpful. The only blip is the folks at the roof top and the bouncer who lets you in—he was nice enough at the beginning but suddenly was abrupt when the security? At the roof bar told him that I ventured over to the side that was forbidden (by accident!!) because there wasn’t anything sectioning it off completely (which he did afternoon he told me it was forbidden). Had someone told me, I would have stuck to the smaller side that was allowed. The room is nice, the noise outside sucks but that can’t be helped, it’s the area. Definitely put the shades down, it helped the noise a little...but I couldn’t sleep the night I didn’t at all... Other then that, I would definitely be back.

Incredible view from our room on the 16th floor. Staff were friendly and accommodating.

No in room coffee, microwave, or refrigerator we requested a refrigerator and never got 1 and 1 day the room was not cleaned very well. Really compact or small quarters but the beds were very comfortable. No fan in bathroom and you can hear every noise in bathroom not soundproof. Entertainment and restaurant or food court was great but really high prced. The Hotel itself was really modern and hip.

Thank you! We enjoyed our stay and will be back next time we are in NYC.

The hotel is beautiful and conveniently located and an excellent price point.

Clean, upscale, modern, comfy beds, easy access to public transportation for airports. Warm cookies after 8pm from downstairs. Bottled water in the room. Free filtered and fruit infused water. WiFi was good.

Part of the building was being remodeled but that did not affect the access or quality of service.

Absolutely excellent ! The quality and standards are there. I am super picky and was absolutely pleased with the attention to detail.

The room was lovely, and I especially appreciated the clothes steamer that was available in the room. Closet was a bit slightly tall for me (average height woman), but the ambient / mood light setup was really relaxing. Fur throw felt quite luxe and was a great touch. Light switches were a little confusing (sometimes the main one by the door opened the shades and closed them, sometimes it only opened them and refused to close?). You'd never guess the soft, natural color palettes and finishes in the rooms based on the trendier staircase/lobby. My main gripe was with the bathroom: weird decision to have the sink outside the bathroom itself; toilet was the most uncomfortable design I've ever experienced; and shower was walk-in style, though the space didn't seem suited for it (too small). The overall vibe was very young and I had a lot of folks tell me the PUBLIC was right in the center of the trendiest spot at the moment.

Love this hotel so much. I have a great time staying with my boyfriend here, and we decided to live here whenever we travel to New York! Love this place!

My husband and I stayed at PUBLIC for 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is fairly new and is very modern and well designed. The elevators that lead up to the lobby level are lit with neon lights and mirrors and creates quite a wow factor. There is no lobby per se, and there is staff available to assist with the self checkin notebooks if needed. There is a beautiful common area for lounging or meeting friends. The room was small but efficient and had a comfy bed. It is in a great area close to trendy shops and many restaurants. I would definitely stay again.

Welcoming and friendly staff, great location, dope hotel. We’ll be staying there agian on our next trip.

AS soon as we arrived at Public I was approached by an angry old man who launched into me for stopping the car in the "drop-off" area for the hotel. When I asked if he knew of any hotel or valet parking he threatened to call security on me. Baffled by his behaviour I realized he must've been a mentally disturbed pedestrian, but it turns out he was the owner of the hotel. After recovering from this aggression, we checked in to our "Good View" room. Though the hamster-sized box was devoid of any comfort or clever design sense you might find in a pod, it did have a "good view" of a building and some other buildings. The hotel lighting was unusually dim but on the plus side it shadowed the banal and dreary aesthetic seen in various old airports and strip malls. Public does have a lovely garden filled with bright yellow daffodils and nice seating but it was cordoned off with a sign saying "Keep Off The Grass." Nightlife thrives at the hotel. Gaggles of partyers. Check out their boutique if you need to buy a gold bicycle or something octagonal. The ground floor Louis café has your standard bland muffins, coffee etc. but if you head down the street to Yonah Shimmel's bakery you can grab a very tasty and fun knish. Public touts itself as a "high end luxury hotel" while their mantra is "populist not elitist" - meaning they've stripped any luxurious quality a hotel might have while maintaining elitist pricing for the populous? Mundane at best.

If you are a 20 something wanting to crash after a night at the club in the hotel this is a good place to stay. For anyone else who wants the quiet and comfort of a luxury hotel you should stay somewhere else.
