quartzite bathroom countertops, great staff, nice food and drink available
I had to wait for 2 hours to check in and when I got to the room, my bed wasn’t done and it was covered in dirty bed sheets. The room smelled bad
I showed up to check in and this establishment refused to honor my reservation. Guests BEWARE!!!
The room was smelling since there were so many people sleeping and there was no ventilation hence it ended up smeeping. We should have some amount of AC running to keep the room under control.
You should know that you are not technically allowed to stay here if you are an nyc resident. The building is great with a Cafe, patio, lounge area, computer room, full kitchen, storage lockers, and theater that has free comedy a few times a week. The bed had a little curtain for privacy. My top bunkmate moved around a lot and the bed rocked, making me feel seasick. The shared bathroom only had 2 sinks, and always women blow drying their hair out doing makeup, so hard to just wash your hands. Amazing location blocks from park & train.
I travel frequently and usually stay in hotels. Places like HI NYC, however, have made me turn to the lower-cost hostel route; the beds were comfortable, the rooms much less expensive than a typical NYC hotel costs, and the atmosphere was convivial. The check in and out process quick and easy. There is a nice little cafe on the lobby floor where they sell coffee and sandwiches. And, perhaps best of all, the subway is a short distance away. Definitely, I will stay here again.
My personal experience was that the travelers here were not friendly or willing to make friends. I tried multiple days. Older hostel. There are newer ones in New York. Okay location. Up pretty far in Manhattan.
Arrived to long lines and wait. My bed had dirty messy sheets with hairs on them. Waited in another line to get new ones. Woke up to shower and they have NO hot water. Freezing cold water only. Free soap dispenser in shower though. Did not give me free breakfast nor shower shoes. I watched other guests get these. Not cool. Bad neighborhood with lots of drug addicts. Nothing open at night nearby.
This is a good place for young people to meet other young people while traveling
The common areas are great, many rooms, and clean. But the 2 things I just can't fet over is that the elevator takes 5 minutes always and the place is really big I did not know where stairs were. Secondly I woke up in the middle of the night drenched in swet. The rooms get so hot at night and it was not that warm outside, only may.
Room was ok just location was not that great and had no ac in room really hot
It was my first stay in this Hostel and I pretty much liked it. Very close to subway.
