Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel4.5 out of 5.0

I stayed three days as a solo traveler and thought the hotel was aesthetically very nice. The location is also excellent. But I didn't think the service or functionality was that great, and don't really know why it deserves 4.5 stars in terms of amenities, as compared to say, a Hyatt or any other upscale three-star urban hotel. Lacking an in-room coffeemaker was a big deal for me. I was on West Coast time so slept in each day and left the room late; housekeeping never came either afternoon though I put the sign out requesting it. My keycard stopped working at times, another minor annoyance. Since I got a really good deal price-wise, I thought it was still worth it, but the hotel wasn't any better and perhaps not as good as some three star hotels I've stayed at, so I would definitely not shell out a premium price to stay here.
Stayed for a week in June of 2017 and was very happy not only with the hotel and rooms but also the great location. Many great places to eat and drink within a few minutes walk on 14th street. Made it hard to want to leave the area at all. Roof top bar was fun as well as the comp beer and wine daily in the lobby. Staff was excellent on every level.
Nice hotel for the money. Great location. So-so service from the staff. Cute things Kimpton used to do to set themselves apart are pretty standard at these "boutique-y" hotels. I paid to check-in early, but they didn't have a room ready. I waited around for FOUR hours before I was able to get into my room.
Stayed here recently for a very long weekend. You cannot beat the location in DC, and we have stayed everywhere. You can walk nearly anywhere from the hotel, including to many great restaurants in the surrounding area. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite with 1.5 baths which was beautifully decorated in a warm almost masculine contemporary style. The rooftop pool is excellent if you have time, especially when the bar is open. Afternoon happy hour with wine makes for a pleasant time in the lobby. Had a few drinks and bites to eat in Radiator the lobby restaurant/bar. Everyone we encountered gave us excellent service and we have zero complaints. This will be where we stay next time as well. You won't regret it here!
This a beautiful hotel that has been recently renovated, I wish that they had invested in additional staff to match the hotel ambience. Room was not ready when we arrived, and forced to upgrade to more expensive room, that was not service the first day of our stay until we asked at 4PM the next day. No ice machines available to guests, and need to have staff deliver ice to your room, took 2 hours to get ice.
The hotel staff need additional training, they were not friendly, my room was not ready when I requested it. I asked for and paid for an upgrade and it was not available. The response was a quote of the policy. They are not the right selection for a business traveler.
Nice hotel. Service was usually good. Just 2 mess ups that I already stated. I do like kimptons. I did have a 14 year old with me. I would have used the pool with him but it was overcrowded and we couldn't take him past 5:00. Also- the pic online made the pool look huge, but it's very tiny.
Expensive ish hotel on Rhode Island Drive, about 15 mins from nearest Metro Stn, or 30-40 min walk into town. Staff attentive and very friendly, best of whom was "Reggie" the concierge. Executive king bedroom large and well appointed, lovely design, very welcoming.. Wetroom bathroom has walk in shower, wheelchair accessible, but note, no fixed full size shower seat and just two steel rails with no wrapround facility. We had to make do with with a mobile narrow shower seat which was poor and disspointingly unstable. Tried to get a seperate stool to help transfer but no joy. Lifts, just two of them, really, really, slow. Wifi eye wateringly expensive at $14.95 for 24hrs. At checkout they wanted to charge us over $110 for a previously not advertised "hotel fee" for the apparently "free" morning coffee and glass of wine night. Given how lovely the staff are here, and how comfortable this hotel is and how well located, this was very disappointing. After a brief discussion the manager waived the fee. Had we known about the fee in advance it may not have been an issue but it wasn't mentioned as the bill was printed send folded and handed over to us. However, despite this we loved the hotel and it's team.
Stayed here after a business trip. mostly booked for the rooftop pool which was wonderful. Really the space up there cannot be beat. The rooms were large and well decorated and the front desk staff were amazing. I did think the daily wine reception was a nice touch however the lack of free wifi and bottled water in the room was a small let down I was not thrilled with the restuarant. The night staff were totally on point and the service was great but the breakfast staff was another story. They forgot our order twice and the food was subpar which did surprise me. I'd recommend grabbing breakfast around the corner and sticking to the hotel bar for cocktails and small plates later on.
The guest rooms are well furnished. Everything is modern, well designed, and well kept. However, the service was poor. Throughout my stay, discarded room service was left festering in the hallways for hours on end. I also had to call down to ask them to service our room, and two hours later it still hadn't been touched. Overall the service was sub par for a hotel of this character, and I'll definitely avoid it the next time I'm in DC.
