centrally located to great restaurants, galleries, and city sights. front desk staff was awesome along with bell staff. Friendly environment for meeting other guests at free happy hour and appetizers. coffee to go in the am and not those nasty small coffee makers in your room. sleek clean and cozy.

We were booked into this hotel as part of a group function and were intrigued with the hotel choice. The room was very good, with a huge desk, a sofa and comfy king bed and lot's of 110v outlets and USB charging ports. It looks great and the decor is satisfying until... You notice there isn't enough bars or hooks for a couple's towels and facecloths in the bathroom. If you think ouside the box, you can use the bar below the sink on the vanity, but that took a couple of days... And you can't get your caffeine fix in the morning without leaving the room... And what is with that joke of an alarm clock? Our package included WiFi, but otherwise there is a fee. Otherwise a good room. Then there is the staff. They were fantastic. Helpful and fast in every way. We had a problem (technical, not us, honest!) with the room safe (twice!) and twice we had someone at the door within a couple of minutes each time. The front desk and concierge were unfailing in being helpful. The restaurant is an interesting combo of a nice place for breakfast, and a bar/restaurant in the evening, with a young noisy crowd taking over late afternoon. The staff are excellent. We were too tired to venture out a couple of evenings though and had excellent meals. The location is close to central DC, with an eclectic mix of hotels and residential, with restaurants, cafe's, bars and groceries a block or two north. We had a couple of good meals nearby, and all in all enjoyed the Mason and Rook.

The hotel was very nice. Greeted right when I walked through the door. Everything was very clean and neat. Everyone was very nice and ready to help with any problem. Many little spots around the hotel, quick access to almost everything.

For my other reviews, I have taken great care. I only write after two or more visits. My reviews are comprehensive and generally positive. This one will be different. I arrived on a Wednesday evening for a two-day stay. I soon noticed that two lightbulbs were burned out - one of two in the bathroom and the only bulb in the desk lamp. Because the bulbs are compact fluorescent as part of the energy saving strategy, the overall lighting in the room was somewhat dim anyway, so losing two bulbs was not helpful. How could the maintenance have been so poor that no one else noticed? Because I had all-day meetings, I did not report the problem until after 10:30 pm that night. I offered to come downstairs and bring the bulbs to the front desk for replacements, but the desk attendant said "You don't have to do that, we will be up right away." By 11:30 pm, no one had appeared, and I did not wish to wait any longer, so I attached a note to each now-empty fixture, and brought the bulbs down myself. I was told that the "electrical engineer" would not arrive until 8 am, by which time I would have again left for meetings. I did not need an "electrical engineer." Just two functioning lightbulbs. I didn't even charge for my own diagnostic and bulb removal services. Poor maintenance and even poorer service. Judge for yourself. By the way, I am able-bodied, but am sensitive to accessibility issues. As this hotel is in a remodeled older building, I noticed that the route from the lobby to the elevators was tortuous. Also, in the on-site restaurant for breakfast, the spacing between table and banquette was tight and hard to negotiate. Finally, while the attendants are pleasant, the valet parking in front of the hotel is poorly managed. There are no signs; the few spaces in front of the hotel are not kept empty; and the semi-circular driveway is narrow and easily blocked. The attendant did not appear until I attempted to back out of the driveway and into the street, as there was no other place to go. At least the hotel management is aware of this problem, but has not resolved it.

We loved our stay at this KIMPTON hotel. From the minute you step foot on the property they make you feel so welcomed from the bell men to the front desk along with the staff at the bars and restaurant. They make you feel like family. Our room was immaculate, the bed was super cozy, and we loved The great smelling bath products. The rooftop pool bar is especially fun for happy hour. KIMPTON hotels always Have delicious cocktails. We tried the frozen drinks they were unique and refreshing. We will definitely stay here again when we return. Thank you for your gracious hospitality!!

This property is now redone and very well done at that! The Mason and Rook is now on a equal level with the other Kimpton properties (Donovan and Palomar) in Washington DC. We arrived late and we were very pleased to see they had a restaurant that was still open, even better that it had great food.

We were so happy with our choice of Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel. The staff here was top notch. We travel a lot and have stayed in many various hotels, B&B's etc. and we have rarely experienced such excellent service. This was a birthday trip and upon our arrival we found the hotel had welcomed us with some very special treats to help celebrate. We stayed 3 nights in all. The entire time, every person we encountered was very friendly. The valet and door staff were so friendly. It may sound silly but having a friendly face at the end of a long day of walking the city made our trip so enjoyable. The entire staff gave the impression of a team that was all pulling together to create the best experiences for their guests. We wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else on future trips. This hotel has earned its high marks.

Loved our stay at this hotel. We stayed with our two children during spring break. The room was a nice size and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Location is about a mile from the mall, but we enjoyed walking to our destinations every day.

After staying 9 days (in two segments), it was expected that the Front Desk would be a bit generous in allowing a late checkout,but the person on duty said it was 1pm or else 50% extra ( if between 1 and 4) and the full rate if between 4 and 6. As the Etihad flight to Abu Dhabi was a 10pm, this meant a longer stay at the airport than is warranted by the charm of Dulles. The corridor carpets seem faded and the restaurant has only a single vegetarian dish,that too eminently missable. But for the courtesy of the rest of the staff (barring the Prussianized front desker), the stay would have to be classified as average,despite the steep room rate. However,the staff were excellent, while any query was promptly replied to by Ms Tice. Wish they had a bit more concern for vegetarians and those with late flights

spent the past weekend at the M&R hotel. Needed to be near Logan Circle and we're fans of Kimpton so we had a few choices and decided to try this for a change. Got there early (11AM!) and although the room they had planned for us wasn't ready they offered us a similar room on a lower floor if we didn't mind, which we didn't. Nice room with a lousy view (driveway to a parking area) but the room was very comfortable, the A/C worked quite well, the shower was great and the room was quite quiet.
