Located between Shell Beach and Stengel Beach on the west side of Highway 1, this lovely Sea Ranch getaway offers classic Sea Ranch architecture with cedar walls and an open floorplan. You'll be near the Bluff Trail at this meadow home. The Sea Ranch Lodge is about five miles south, and the green of the Sea Ranch Golf Links is a four-mile drive north. Head to Annapolis Winery (11 miles southeast) for wine tasting or plan a whole day trip and drive north to Fort Bragg to walk on the Glass Beach (64 miles) and then a late lunch in Mendocino.
Walk inside to a two-story living room. The artwork throughout the house is framed photographs of nature on the Sea Ranch, giving an authentic and organic feeling within the home. There's a sunken inglenook with a stone fireplace and a sheltered deck with a built-in table and benches for outdoor dining. Even when it is very windy outside, the sheltered deck offers warmth and remarkable calm from any wind. It is its own microclimate.
When it's mealtime, the kitchen is well-equipped with all major appliances, including a couple of different coffeemakers (with an espresso maker and grinder) and other gadgets like a blender and toaster. Just pick up some groceries at the nearby Surf Market in Gualala and fix up a feast!
This ocean meadow can showcases bedrooms which are equivalent main bedrooms - the main level bedroom with window seat and ocean views opens onto the expansive deck. The upper-level bedroom features a cedar cathedral ceiling, a corner desk, and breathtaking white water downcoast view. Both bedrooms have full baths. The loft is an open concept that includes a queen mattress on a raised platform and overlooks the main level. There is also a desk, flatscreen/Apple TV, and it is just down the hall from the upper main bedroom. The duvet comforters are new, very high quality down duvets as are the new down pillows. Except for the kitchen and loft with meadow views, the principal rooms and large deck all have superb ocean views.
The spacious attached garage features new industrial lighting and a long built-in wood plank table, ideal for work projects. In addition, several comfortable chairs and two market umbrellas can be found by the back door of the garage, next to the outdoor deck. Home features high-speed 1 Gbps Fiber Optic home network. The house works very well for a single guest, as a romantic getaway for a couple or two couples as the home offers equivalent bedroom suites, each on a separate level.
Guests can enjoy additional conveniences like an electric car charging station. Sea Ranch also offers three rec centers with pools, tennis, saunas, and miles and miles of walking/biking trails. Gorgeous view, comfortable house
The house is very comfortable, well-equipped and is set in a lovely location with gorgeous ocean views. The proximity to trails was perfect! The private deck is large and great for evening sunsets and the wildlife is amazing; deer, fox, bunnies (bear paw prints on our car one morning - don't keep food in your car!). Overall. We would return to this serene location.

Scenic location - relaxing environment
The view was wonderful. The house was comfortable and cozy. It was perfect for two couples. The loft could have accommodated a couple of kids as well. The dining chairs were a little wobbly, so we used the built in benches. As others have mentioned, the lighting could be better as well. Not great ambient lighting and some of the task lighting was just way to bright - so hard to get the right lighting. Kitchen was fairly well provisioned, but would be nice to have a few more plates available.

Amazing
We loved our stay at the Glass House. We could hear the ocean and enjoy the view. The built-ins and mid century furniture added to the magic of our stay. The only small issue: Pots and pans could be replaced, they very old.
Looking forward to returning.

Thanksgiving at the Glass House
Sea Ranch is such a special place and we are always trilled to find a vacation house during the thanksgiving week. To some The Glass House might seem dated but to us was a very pleasant house with a wonderful down coast view. The wild life was exciting - foxes, family of deer including a dominant buck, quail, barn owl, and grazing sheep - all within view of the deck. The kitchen appliances are great but one drawback would be the pots and pans which are not in the best of shape especially if your group likes to cook so bring your own.

Clean, quiet, casual.
As promised in description. We were very comfortable. Enjoyed our stay. Only recommendation is same I have for most places - we the technically challenged could figure out how to access the Apple TV or connect for Netflix. The regular tv was easily accessible. Recommend directions for each of the tv options:)

Nice place, but needs some attention...
The house is very cozy. A great little house in a good location. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck enjoying the ocean view. The Sonos system was a nice touch.
Some minor disappointments: parts of the house have not been upgraded in many decades, namely the downstairs bathroom and the kitchen counters (the grout is missing or just really gross - don't prep food on it), the cabinets and the kitchen supplies. The French press is broken and there are only a few dishes, and a hodge-podge of really old gadgets. There was no means to save food: cling wrap or foil or storage containers of any kind. Also, the posted "reminders" all over the house were a bit much. I couldn't go anywhere in the house without a nagging reminder about what to do or not do (ex. put shower curtain inside the tub, etc.). Felt like I was in someone else's space and they didn't trust my company.
Our real issues/concerns were in regard to the fireplace. We followed directions properly (the flu was open and we opened a living room window only), and yet every night the place still filled with smoke. It is not safe for anyone to sleep in the loft when a fire is going, as it eventually fills with smoke. This lead to another concern: THERE ARE NO WORKING SMOKE DETECTORS OR CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS IN THE HOME! They are there, but they do not function and it's very apparent why: you cannot have a fire in this home without tons of smoke. Incidentally all of our clothes - even the clean ones - all smell like smoke.
Lastly, the freezer works, but the fridge does not. Even on the lowest setting, our food was warm for several days and we had to throw out our dairy. Such a waste. It makes a constant low buzzing sound as though the fridge fan is broken.
So, even though we had a decent stay, we will not return to The Glass House.

Gracious home in a serene setting
We really loved this home. Parts of it are a little worn (like the couch), but the layout and the views are extraordinary. I especially loved the kitchen - the counter tile, the cutting boards, all the supplies. Would definitely stay here again!

Sea ranch is an amazing place. Totally captivated by the beauty and serenity.
Glass house is a (relatively) early property in the community. It's architecture and decor mirror the values of the community- lots of wood, plenty of windows, lots of privacy. Home had a lot of information about Sea Ranch history, things to do in the area. We learned a lot! We did not use any of the recreation facilities, but enjoyed walking everyday. Glass House is centrally located ; we frequently visited the bluffs, shell and tidal beaches - saw many seals!
The kitchen is well stocked with equipment in a compact space. The Surf Market grocery store had everything we wanted and is a short drive away. We were comfortable in the house once we figured out the natural air conditioning-- open the large slider doors! The home was 86degrees when we arrived - stifling! But cooled off quickly. We slept downstairs, but are not confident we would not be hot up in the loft. It seemed warm all the time. Appreciated the deck chairs that were in the garage- maybe a table with market umbrella would be nice to have on the deck?
We feel an update on the bathrooms would be a good idea. The lighting is so dim it was hard to see. Lovely blue tiles in the kitchen really make this oceanside environment, but new grout is needed all around the sink.
In all, we found the home lovely and the community stunning. Very glad we came.
