This hotel provides what you would expect from a full service Marriott. The staff is awesome, the rooms are clean. This hotel does not have a concierge lounge for the upper tier Marriott members. They accommodated as best they could. The food at this hotel is fantastic. I had food from all the menus and the food has been flavorful and at the perfect temperature. Hats off to the restaurant department. Overall, this was a pleasurable stay.
Good location for golfers, very close to the TPC Scottsdale courses. Otherwise not much around. Large parking lot, though nothing in the shade. Has a resort-like feeling, large swimming pool, behind swimming pool golf course fairways. We had a suite, quite spacious, though a bit worn. Good bathroom, separate shower cubicle. Noisy aircon and a noisy surprise in the early morning as the Scottsdale airport is pretty close and one noisy small airplane after another flies over the hotel. No breakfast buffet due to low season, breakfast on order, service a bit on the slow side. Quite a number of business travelers and meetings. Dinner in the lobby restaurant/bar ok. All in all a good hotel.
Stayed here for 5 nights in June, 2017 while traveling on business. While the service, and accommodations were great I found the location to be bad since it was next to a golf course, and on the wrong side of the airport which I heard landing planes until well after 11PM. The golf course noise would start about 5:15AM. Between these I got very little quality sleep. There is no concierge lounge but the hotel provided breakfast coupons. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. I had a patio with a golf course view but since I was traveling on business I did not make use of it. The food was good at the restaurant during breakfast, and dinner. The location is good, and is close to the freeway. There are good restaurants within driving distance of the hotel.
We decided to got to Arizona because my family has some relatives. We spent a few night at their place then spent a few here. Since our family has a platinum member the adults got free breakfast and the kids got a gift basket with treats and stuffed animals. The room was clean and during breakfast the waiter we had was very nice and helpful, I can't remember his name but if I did I would give him a shout out. The pool was great, the gym was great, almost everything was great. I was surprised to see people chain smoking on the pool deck, I'm pretty sure it was against the rules to smoke but I didn't want to get into peoples business. Also when we walked in to the hotel it was COLD. I haven't ever been in a place with the AC so high. I had to wear a sweatshirt when we were not outside or in the room. And I could understand if it was about 90 degrees outside but it was about 60-70 degrees out. But it was an overall good experience.
We stayed overnight on our way home from a road trip. The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay there again and plan to if we make a trip to Scottsdale again. If you belong to their rewards club, internet is free and it's free to join.
We traveled to Scottsdale for medical reasons and have been really taken care of at this Marriiott location. Every staff member from the front door, to the desk, into the dining room and in-room cleaning, was solicitous and helpful. After about two weeks, the menu got a little tired, and we did notice some lack of attention to cleanliness in outdoor areas. Maybe the trees are heavy shedders and the bits in chairs, on paths etc were impossible to keep up with....but cigarette butts between the cracks of the walkways were not policed up either. Small concerns, when overall things went so well for us. The gym, pool and hot tub kept my husband occupied while I lounged in the room with ice packs!! A good healing place!
What a wonderful and delightful experience I had at this property. In the past 30 days, I have stayed here for approx two weeks, on two different occasions. I can't speak enough about the professionalism, friendliness, and the above and beyond service offered by Mgmt., and each of the staff I encountered. It made no difference whether I was in the bar (Carla) enjoying a meal, or called for a sewing kit, the staff at the front desk (Jenny & James) the great service was consistent. Had wonderful room(s) overlooking the Desert landscape (1st visit) and the Golf course, my second and recent one. The room was spacious, very clean and loved the light fresh scent it adorned. The bed was amazingly comfortable and love the fact that feather pillows are provided upon request. I must say, this Marriott property is very special, as I have stayed at various Marriott proprieties during my years of extensive travel, there's no comparison, I can only attribute it to the astuteness of the Management to provide excellent guest services. I had the pleasure of meeting the GM, Mr. Forburger, it didn't take long to realize as to why this particular Marriott is exceptional in so many ways. As I will be returning to Scottsdale on a regular basis, I look forward to staying here on a regular basis. I highly recommend this Marriott, I promise you'll not be disappointed, as I'm a scrutinizing traveler and I expect the best! Thank you, Management and Staff.
Where there for 3 nights for a customer event (seminars and site visits). Part of the event was also a golf tournament with the guests. Hotel rooms are all Suite style and are very spacious and well equipped. Hotel has a good retaurant and also the catering during the event was good. Two negatie points: the planes departing and arrving at the close by airport are sometimes very loud; the temperature in the meeting rooms was "deep freeze"; everybody was complaining but there was no chance to get the temperature up to a comfortable level
After booking approximately 2 dozen nights at Marriott and JW Marriott so far this year, I have learned there is a difference not always made clear or public. As a rule, to include the Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountains, Marriott's without the "J.W." in front of their name means you are booking a three star hotel that is hoping for a four star rating but still operates on an obvious budget. If you are booking a J. W. Marriot this name means you are booking a four star hotel attempting through extravagant means to impress you as a five star hotel like the J. W. Marriott at Desert Ridge in Scottsdale. I have stayed at both of the above hotels within the last two months. For example: the Marriott at McDowell Mountain put three towels in your suite each day even with two persons in the room along with one bath robe that house cleaning will hang-up if left laying on the bed. Most people there for a golf weekend will want to shower after 90 degree heat and 18 holes and then again shower in the morning. That can't be done on three towels when there are two people in the room and expect a clean towel. The Marriott at Desert Ridge will have four or five large towels each day in the room. Restaurant service and food at the Marriott at McDowell Mountain is typical. You have to go into the restaurant from the patio if you need to get a waitress's attention and the food is average. The Desert Ridge Marriott has great service and food. The Marriott at McDowell Mountains advertises being adjacent to the TPC Golf Course but it is at least 6 blocks to the entrance of the Champions Course and another 5 blocks further and across a highway to the Stadium Course. You can't get to either course without wheels, a taxi or when it MAY be available a shuttle. All said, you get what you pay for and the Marriot at McDowell, which is nice, -- but it's NOT managed like a four star and the one bedroom suite is not four star either. Pick the J.W. Marriott at Desert Ridge and drive to the TPC Courses - they are worth the drive.
Stayed here for one night. Had a large suite and everything was first class. The only thing I would have liked was some body lotion included in the complimentary toiletries. The bed was very large and extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows. The seating area in the lounge was also comfortable and spacious. Not quite sure I needed two large flat screen TVs but there you go! The pool area was nicely laid out with plenty of loungers. A snack meal in the Agave bar was delicious and service was friendly and slick. The buffet breakfast the following morning was also very good. I would have liked some natural yoghurt instead of a choice of fruit flavours. It would also have been nice to be offered tea instead of being provided with coffee automatically. Such assumptions should not be made, especially in an upscale hotel such as this. Some people might find the constant and sometimes noisy arrival of dozens of small planes at the nearby airport a bit irksome. I really struggle with the fact that high end hotels in the States and Canada do not provide free wifi to guests in the rooms. Get into the 21st century Marriott - if a tiny cafe in a backstreet in Rangoon or a small island in the Philippines can provide free wifi, so can you. It's not a luxury, it's a necessary facility for modern day living. I don't know a single person who still uses fax machines and you should be embarrassed to be so behind the times. Otherwise, a very pleasant experience and I would certainly recommend staying here if you don't mind the inconvenience of having to leave your room to send an email or paying an exhorbitant sum to do so from your room. Shameful !
