The hotel was as-advertised. Quad room was small as expected, so no surprises. Not for business travelers or anyone who needs to spend significant time in the room, as there is no sitting space for all four occupants except on the bottom beds and small tool. Desk is too small for working but serves as a night stand or storage surface. Bathroom was clean with good soaps and shampoos. Would have liked a shelf or space to put my own larger soap and shampoo in the shower. Good if you're on a budget.

The room was small but more than sufficient, with cozy, somewhat Scandinavian design. Really loved all the wooden built-ins and deep green bathroom tile. Linens were high-quality, and the bedspread/blanket was particularly lux-feeling. One bummer was that even as a hotel guest, I was unable to visit the rooftop bar since it was full/previously reserved. Had hoped for a more 'social' Freehand experience, but perhaps COVID is responsible for the lack of interaction with other travelers.

I like the helpful and nice service and staff. The rooms are cozy and well equipped. The location is perfect and in a very safe neighborhood.

Very clean. Recently renovated. Friendly and helpful staff. Amenities are limited due to COVID restrictions. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in NYC.

Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing hotels I’ve stayed at in quite some time. I travel 2 to 3 times per month and the five nights I stayed at The Freehand NYC left me frustrated, fatigued and generally pissed off. If you stay here anticipate a terrible night’s sleep due to poorly insulated walls (you’ll hear every word your neighbors speak while on the phone and be woke up by the housekeepers starting at 7:30 every morning. In addition to sounds passing through walls as though they are made of paper, expect your headboard to shake aggressively every time a guest staying in an adjacent room shuts a door or, if you’re in 601, every time a housekeeper slams a cart into the wall. When asked if I could switch rooms I was told no and a pair of cheap, yellow ear plugs were sent to my room. I thought it was a sad joke. Unfortunately for The Freehand, this is their idea of a solution. In addition, if you’re comfortable washing your face in the sink of a 737 (airplane) you’ll feel right at home at The Freehand. The poorly lit bathrooms with their tiny sinks will leave water on every adjacent surface - floor, toilet seat, everywhere.

Great location! Very quaint and homey, clean and comfortable.

This is an excellent hotel. Everything has been considered. Great food in the restaurants and an incredible bar on the roof (which wasn't as busy in the winter). Service was top notch with a distinct New York flair. Great restaurants nearby and in a good neighbourhood (not touristy) near to everything I wanted to see/do (frequent visitor).

The implicit bargain for micro-hotels is that there will be adequate amenity space -- bars, restaurants, etc. -- for guests to use, making up for the tiny rooms. Unfortunately, Freehand didn't manage to accomplish that: several nights I stayed at the hotel, one or more was closed for a private event. One or two nights, every single bar/restaurant was closed. That disappointed me. If I had wanted to bundle up for the cold and walk to some bar in the neighborhood, yes, I could've done that. But if I hadn't cared about the option of a cool onsite bar, I wouldn't have booked at the Freehand. Bottom line: the Freehand has cool amenities, but, often, they're not for you.

The location is very convenient to where I work and I like having a choice of restaurants and bars within the hotel.

Excellent location. I thought the shared space with bar above lobby was outstanding, as was Simon and the Whale next door. Rooms were nice and bed comfortable. I was aware I was getting small room, but the sink in bathroom was hard to engage. I would stay again.

Great modern hotel, not like any we've stayed before. Beautiful decorated and comfortable rooms. Great location, easy to get to subway station.

I didn’t like that it took them way too long for our room to be ready. We waited 5+ hours in the lobby waiting for our room and they still didn’t have it ready until they saw that we were getting impatient.

Relaxed and enjoyed the quiet. Staff was very friendly.
