We saw ChristinaP. at the Gramercy Theater and it’s just steps away from Freehand hotel. It was raining cats and dogs that day so the location was perfect. 👌
The property was fine, but the problem is with Orbitz's arrangement. We reserved from Thursday to Sunday but had to remove the Saturday night portion well in advance of our arrival. The problem is that canceling the last night would have cost more because it required us to cancel the whole reservation and then rebook. This is a serious flaw because one would expect some type of refund. This discourages us from using Orbitz again.
Staff member who checked me in barely said anything and then asked me if I had any questions.
Glad to find a new affordable place to stay when I visit New York. Queen Cozy rooms are small but everything is clean, comfortable, and well constructed. Just a few blocks away from some great dining options in "Curry Hill." Multiple subway lines within a few blocks as well so getting to Queens, Brooklyn, or anywhere else is pretty easy. Staff were kind and everything was ready to go when I arrived after 3pm. WiFi was far superior to your typical hotel. Overall, a great place to stay for a few nights.
I liked the staff and the millennial vibe. Lobby was a bit worn. Attached coffee shop was very convenient. Good location.
The room we stayed in was as small as it could possibly be and the hallway smelled like cat food. The bathroom and the interior decorations were nice but the lighting flickered on and off. The staff is cool though. I’ve never been to a hotel where they have a case of water in the lobby that you can take bottles of at your leisure, so that was nice. Made me think they were making up for something. Like when an airline gives you a snacks after delaying your flights for several hours.
The hotel is on a great area of the city, and the building is pretty great, with one BIG issue: There's a club on the 2nd floor, of which we were not told when given a 3rd floor room, and we literally could not sleep until at least 2:30am (after crossing the country driving). The bed was shaking with the sound from below. We were given a small discount, which we appreciate, but it didn't even cover half the cost of parking our vehicle. The hotel is great, if quirky, as long as you don't have a room in the lower floors. So beware, and ask them for a high floor, especially if you are going to spend Friday/Saturday there, which is when the club is open.
Room and hallways are dark. Facility is not nice. Overpriced for what it is
Rooms are dark and poorly furnished
The LIGHTING for Me! Should be much BRIGHTER... Particularly in Hallways... Elevators...my room was 1510..it was was around corners and in area where no Cameras were...Anyone can wait for you to enter your room ..push you in and Assault you...The staff or Neighbors would Not have a clue something is going on...it was scary...too dimly lit..WOMEN AND CHILDREN OR TEENS...ARE ALWAYS in danger if being assaulted.. trafficking..etc...I Didn't feel safe..in that corner ...or hallways...Lights to dim... Please review the cameras...and layout of certain rooms... Overall my stay was not bad at All
we loved the staff and the property. didn’t get a chance to see the restaurant, but the breakfast spot and bar on the lobby level were so nice! very sweet housekeeping staff and felt very safe in the hotel.
Overall great stay. A little loud at night outside.
The Freehand is in the Gramercy area in a beautiful building. The lobby is beautiful, the restaurant is excellent and we will be checking out the rooftop cocktail bar tonight. Rooms are compact with very interesting configurations to suit all sorts of travellers needs. Excellent deal, great staff. I will stay here again.

Timothy, we are sorry that we did not meet your expectations in all areas, but we are thankful for your feedback and your completed survey. We are working with our Orbitz partners to smooth these issues out so they do not occur again.

Tanisha, we apologize for that it is not indicative of our services here at the freehand. We have spoken to the agent in question and can assure you that it will not happen again.

Nathan, we take great care in selecting the neighborhoods for our hotels. They are always close to public transport, and often within a walking distance of key attractions. Our team love sharing their local knowledge, so if you ever need tips on the quickest way to get to the sights, or finding hidden gems please ask. On behalf of our Partners at Expedia thank you and we hope to see you again real soon.
