A very nice hotel that is close to everything. If you’re going to an event at the Xcel this is a great place. Clean rooms and many taxi’s out front at all times. The views are amazing from most rooms.
The hotel is in a nice area with restaurants in walkable distance. The conference room was spacious and nice. The room was a decent size, although I had an awful view of construction. The negatives are the walk in shower’s glass divider was so small my floor was a wet mess every time I took a shower and there is no shuttle to and from the airport. They also could be more green by not using cloth hand towels in the bathrooms and replace them with hand dryers.
We stayed one night (10/13/17) in advance of an outstanding two week Mississippi River cruise with American Cruise Lines. They recommended the hotel and they were right ont he money--spacious 18th floor king room with gorgeous bathroom and great TV. Food at the bar was good with excellent service. Will definitely stay here again if in the area.
I really debated between a 4 and 5 rating. I'll explain the 4 at the end. Let’s talk about all the good stuff. I've stayed and Intercontinental hotels all over the world. This one represents the name well. If you are driving they only have parking garage, no street side or parking lot. Probably a big plus in the winter. At the time of my stay it was $18 a night which is on par for most city parking garages. Its attached directly to the hotel again a big plus in the winter. The lobby is very well done, inviting but not ostentatious as many are. It is little surprising as the exterior is more modest. Your first impression will be that you made a good choice. When I got to my room it was evening and there was only small desk lamp on. The room at this point felt a little unassuming. Then I flipped the light switch on, and another and another. With each flip of a switch the room got bigger and better. The room was a corner suite and I do recommend it. Typically this just means a slightly larger room with a sofa squeezed in and maybe a 2nd TV. Not the case this time. This room has a very nice living room with plenty of furniture and ample space for that furniture. The work desk had its own space. Again very nice for me as I tend to spend a lot of time at the desk. Everything is full size not micro furniture. Well except the fridge but what do you expect. It took me a mint to find it. Hint, it’s under the TV. Something I love is outlets. Do this for business. I like to be able to plug in and plug in I did. Multiple outlets everywhere and many have USB charge ports. I love it. Thank you. The bedroom was very spacious, the bed huge and comfortable. I loved the way this room is laid out. The large bathroom separates the living room from the bedroom complete with a sliding door to completely isolate the living room from the bed room. Very nice if there is more than one person in the room. I'm a night owl and my wife isn't. After taking all of this in I opened the curtains. WOW!!!, what an incredible view. First this is not a couple small windows. These are 5 foot windows that run nearly the entire length of the exterior wall. They provide a very panoramic view of the river front. As I mentioned early, I checked in during the evening. Even with the rain and overcast it was a beautiful sight. I was also surprised how quiet it was. I never heard the traffic unless it had a siren attached. Considering my room overlooked a busy street that is impressive. Very easy to sleep through the night. so the room was clean, quiet, comfortable, spacious, well laid out and with a view. Well writing this I just changed my rating to a five. But I'm leaving the earlier rating remarks for a caveat. I've stayed at the Intercontinental in Athens Greece. The lobby is marble, polished brass and just over the top. It has a Michelin awarded restaurant at the top overlooking the Acropolis. I also gave it a five rating. This place is very, very nice but its pales in comparison. Probably not a fair comparison but they do carry the Intercontinental name so my expectation are of the level. So taking into consideration that this is not Athens, but St. Paul I decided a 5 was fair.
The refurished Intercontinental St Paul will meet your expectations but the employees will exceed them. Tabatha at the front desk was fantastic and a true asset! It's clear the staff are well trained and make for a great guest experience!
Great stay. Very clean and nice location. Super professional staff, and the front desk staff were the best, and highly recommend staying here. Caleea was awesome and made the stay great with her attentiveness and above and beyond customer service!
I travel a lot for business so I’ve had the opportunity to see the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to service. But when it comes to the Intercontinental Saint Paul Riverfront, I can only describe the service I received as excellent. In particular the front desk staff, consisting of Tabatha, Etty, Wendy, and their manager, were extremely friendly and professional, and willing to go out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible. There really is no other choice, when staying in downtown St. Paul for business or pleasure, stay at the Intercontinental, you’ll thank me!
The view from my room was amazing. Tabatha at the front desk was very welcoming and the whole staff seems very friendly. The bed is very comfortable and i felt like they really wanted me to feel at home
Had to stay here for a military ball but check in was the best thanks to Tabatha p! She was so pleasant and friendly and helped us get a room with a great view. Exactly the person you want to greet you when you come to a hotel.
Tabatha P. is amazing!! She was so helpful made sure we knew our way around, took care of us to the fullest extent! I’d come back for the CustomerCare even if the hotel wasn’t great! She was awesome!!!
