Very nice beach in front of the hotel. A day pass (if you are not staying at the hotel) will cost you $450 pesos and you'll have a credit of the same amount for drinks and food. Beer is beer but food was just above average... Doubt I'll go again.
Hotel has Poor maintenance, food is the same every day ( I do not recomened pay for all inclusive), dirty pool, rude staff, old place. Good location, beside to port, easy access in bus and ferry. Just enough to sleep and breakfast.
the room wasn't what I asked for. the ac wasn't working and when it did finally kick in the noise from its fan was awful. this went on all night, without cooling the room. sleep was impossible. when I turned the shower on rust water came out. I had tried to use trivago for a discount and that was a joke as well. the front desk staff we incompetent. the restaurant staff was delightful. I would never recommend this hotel, over priced and under maintained
Nice garden, nice pool and friendly staff that meets requirements. Be aware that iguanas are walking there.... Great view from the cliff. Round pool I like much. close to the ferry terminal and drugstore
My children and I just spend 6 days at Dos Playas/Maya Caribe and had a great time. The hotel is situated in a very lovely beach area, safe and pleasant. The beach was very enjoyable and comfortable. Yes, the hotel needs some TCL but for the price, comfort and safety, it was worth it. The front desk staff was super! RosaMar from the front desk was the most helpful and pleasant person to deal with. The room was comfortable and clean. I would come back to this hotel b/c it was quiet and relaxing.
It's 2 hotels in one next to the Riu Palace. Upon arriving for a 1 day stay I was directed to the concierge for check-in. There I tried to check-in by presenting my reservation and the concierge man told me he couldn't find my reservation and gave me the excuse that their reservation office does not work on a Sunday. I was not happy because that's not my problem or concern which I let him know. I had a reservation made the day before and those type of problems are internal issues. I reserved a studio room all-inclusive service for 2 adults. He tells me that I would have to leave a deposit for what I payed and that the next day it would be refunded. That was unacceptable and asked to speak to the Manager on duty for that day which he did call after I insisted. He was very rude and told me in a condescending way "do you want me to tell you for a second time" in reference to why he needs a deposit. Upon speaking to the Manager and in a matter of minutes he found my reservation and apologized for what happened. I let him know along with my spouse that the concierge man was rude and requesting for a deposit. So if you go to this hotel watch out for the rude concierge guy that he might not find your reservation on purpose unless you tip him. Disgraceful customer service from this hotel and this guy should not be working in this area or maybe Management is comfortable with his rude behavior towards guests? The hotel or condominium style is located next to the Riu Palace and has 2 pool areas but the food is not all that great for an all-inclusive. I would think twice before staying at this hotel. P.S. Beware! Watch out for the black crow that will sneak attack by flying over your head.
Just stayed here for 1 week and loved it. Yes, the rooms are a little dated and could use some TLC, but I didn't go to Cancun to stay in my room! It is actually two hotels in one, the other being Dos Playas. There are 3 pool areas and a lovely stretch of private beach just down some steps. We never had any trouble getting a sun lounger. The food is pretty good, especially the pizza's you can get from one of the pool bars. Drinks included in the AI package are great - you can pretty much get whatever you want! The staff here are all really nice and friendly, especially Angel the entertainments guy who is really lovely and really helpful as well as being a good laugh! The hotels location is also amazing, right next to the ferry port for Isla Mujueres. Its quiet in the area at night, but you can get on a bus to the centre of the hotel zone and be there in a few minutes (buses run 24/7 and we never waited more than 2 mins for one). Would definitely return here and sincerely hope I do! Loved Cancun - best holiday ever!
I've stayed at this hotel twice and I'm going back again in two weeks time! When you book the hotel it tells u that it's not 5 star like every other hotel in cancun so when u drive past on the way and notice the large 5 star hotels don't be disappointed when u arrive at the smaller more basic maya caribe/dos playas. Yes they are the same hotel. I have only ever stayed in maya caribe. Maya caribe is consisted of many little cabins whereas dos playas looks to be more of a hotel with many rooms on many floors. We always walk into the reception and there is always a lovely bubbly man who grabs our cases and leads us to our adventure for the next two weeks!! The rooms are basic! But you get what you pay for. This place is cheap as chips! I always call it my adventure. Set in amongst trees and green your cabin is nice and private. Like I said... Cabins are basic, stone walls old furniture, dodgy finishing touches but it's clean, air conditioned and gives u a peaceful place to rest your head. Security guards stationed at the main entrances and at night another that wonders the grounds. You can't feel safer at this hotel. Entertainment team. Angel and Ivan are amazing. They keep you entertained all day, quizes, water polo, beach volleyball as well as some friendly jokes with all the guests!! Then come back later in the evening to take the younger set out to the clubs! It's great having them, they help u get a great table and set you up with ur drinks waiter etc! Food- again basic, but I'm a fussy English Eater and have yet to starve while I'm out there. This could be better but again I stand by the fact that I'm more than satisfied when I compare to what I have paid for an all inclusive package. Other bits and bobs- perfect location on a normally quiet and beautiful stretch of beach. Two lovely pools, one quiet one and one with Ivan and angel chatting away! There is company that let you use snorkels etc and kayaks for free if you stay at the hotel on the beach. Have to pay for wifi now though... PLEASE DONT MAKE US PAY FOR WIFI! Trips can b bought for good prices from the man with a stall next to the supermarket on the beach. I would suggest in Mexico the boat trip and going to the cenotes/zip wires. All in all love Mexico. This hotel I feel is great and I'm not the only one whose face is familiar year in and year out!! Returning customers say it all in my book!!
tOn arriving at the hotel i was concerned that the driver was dropping me at the wrong hotel as the name on my paper work did not match the name of the hotel. I had booked for Maya Caribe Hotel but was assured that Dos Players one of the same and when I checked in they were expecting me. The staff spoke limited English but were polite friendly and helpful and showed us to our room, the hotel facilities were pointed out eg swimming pools, restaurant, bar and they even carried our luggage. I was very thankfull for this as think I would have stuggled wheeling my suitcase on the crazy paving paths. On arriving to our room the air con was swithched on and the tv set to an english channel for us. Unfortunately I could not hear the television after the air con had been turned on as ifollowing the journey it was so noisy! All I wanted to do was to sleep as following the journey and time delay I had not slept in 30 hours. Sleep turned out to be imposssible with the air con unit resembling the sound of a pneumatic drill right next to my bed. Tryed to turn it off but the temperature soon became unbearble at 36 degrees the air con was switched back on. A maintenance man was sent to look at the unit when I complained. He did not speak english but set to work, when banging the unit about a bit did not work he went away and returned with cardboard and sticky tape which was wedged around the unit to try to stop the vibration, which was making the terrible noise. This made little improvement and probably could have been a fire hazzard too but we lived to tell the tale After 2 nights and also complaning about the cockraches and the lizard living in our room we were trransfered to another. The air con unit was still noisy but only resembled a car engine rather than a pneumatic drill allowing some sleep at last, no more wildlife was found and we had a sea veiw! In terms of food there was a good selection so kids could find something they considered edible, I stuck to salads which again there was a good selection of. The drinks allowed in the all inclusive were cheap alcohol coke or fruit juice. If real fruit juice, coke or even bottled water was wanted then you had to pay extra. We weren't keen on the drinks and had to spend extra paying for water which I resented having gone all inclusive. There were some cocktails made up like slush puppies which we enjoyed but beware they were happy to serve these to my daughter too despite being underage. The location was excellent.
Very budget hotel, even if you can get it for next to nothing don't bother. 1* at its best, loads of areas waiting for an accident to happen. Food a waste of time, always cold, and bar was very very limited as to what it had in stock, ok if you like water or diluted orange. No hot water for 2 weeks despite complaining every day, moved rooms after 4 days still no improvements. Take your own towels as the ones that they give you are crap. Worst hotel that we have ever stayed in, but good location and beach, with lots of improvements this could be a real gem, but do believe all the negative comments, they are true. Looks like management have not taken any action from reviews since 2010, this says a lot about their attitude to your stay. We booked blind over the internet on price only, don't make the same mistake
