Econo Lodge & Suites2.0 out of 5.0

The building is quite old, some updating has been done but even some of the updated fixtures are old, the tub didn't drain well while showering so we ended up standing in several inches of water. On the other hand the suite was quite spacious, extremely clean for the age and well kept. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is right on the Gorge and quiet even though it appears to be a fairly busy intersection. Continental breakfast is limited in variety but well stocked. We would definitely stay here again as we are budget conscious.
Really enjoyed our stay in the two bedroom suite. We found the facilities clean in spite of renovations and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Kids loved the pool! Great selection for the complimentary breakfast as well, all items were fresh and delicious. If you expect high end facilities and modern decor - book downtown Victoria. If you are fine with basic amenities and a short drive to downtown, this is a great option! We would stay here again and will recommend to our friends.
Slightly dated rooms with a decent television and good Wi-Fi. The rooms could use a facelift but unfortunately are in the process of being converted to apartments so in a year it probably won't even be the Econo Lodge anymore. So take the opportunity to stay while you can because the price is right. Conveniently located near the Naval Base which is why I needed it. The staff there were very good and I commend them for being very friendly and helpful.
The room was booked for two nights by our friends who we were travelling with. As soon as we entered the hallway i wanted to turn around and check out. The carpets were filthy and the walls dingy. Inside the room I couldn't believe it. Big stains all over the carpet and the room just looked not clean! Bedding was outdated as well as everything else in the room! We made it through the two nights but never again!
We stayed one night at this facility which we selected primarily because of its location and price. We had a suite which included a kitchen with a full size fridge. The decor in the room is dated and needs to be renovated: the carpet had stains, the bed had lumps. Breakfast is free and was plentiful. Sections of the inn are being renovated. Should I go back, I would ask to be in a newly renovated section.
Me and my friend stayed here for 2 nights. We were greeted at reception by Kaitlin who is bubbly and knowledgeable about the area. She explained that the place was being renovated into apartments. The hotel is in a great spot on the river for canoeing and kayaking, not too far from downtown. All I can say is keep an eye out for these apartments on air bnb soon.
The location is good but the exterior is ratty and the room was just okay, with a nonfunctioning deadbolt and a/c that did not cool. Bed and bathroom were fine, though, The main problem was that this hotel routinely assesses a 200% damage fee at checkin. There is no advance notice from a practical standpoint, no choice left for selecting another hotel. The night clerk said the fee (in our case $200 which was in addition to the cost of the room) would be cleared the next day, but she insisted I sign a charge slip for it so I believed they intended to submit it and therefore it would have to be formally refunded. The clerk the next morning refused to refund until the room was checked for damage, which could not occur until after 9 am. There was no arguing with him as he made it clear that he, not the customer was right. We are rather off put by any suggestion that we trash rooms, or even stay in a place where people trash rooms but he said many people do. A maintenance person unexpectedly appeared and agreed to check the room for damage and before the clerk and I actually came to blows over who would prevail (he was pretty young and probably stronger) the room was checked and the $200 was cancelled. This kind of treatment should not happen to respectable people. It is demeaning and when there is a high fee like this it should be disclosed in advance (we made our reservation on line months earlier from 3000 miles away). We appreciate being treated well and with respect, not as though we are adversaries, when we stand up for our financial rights.
Well-worn facility, easy to access, friendly reception, spacious & quiet rooms, comfortable beds, first room had musty carpets but second room was cleaner, excellent breakfast selection & dining area (complimentary Globe & Mail), swimming pool & deck, guest laundry facilities great location for morning/evening walks along the Gorge
I stayed here for four nights while working in the Victoria area on Vancouver Island. The location was nice down near the gorge and easy to find. The room was spacious with a kitchenette. Although there was limited cooking items (I didn't have a spatula to flip things in the frying pan) nor was there a microwave. The place was fairly quiet and the WiFi worked wonderfully (the password was on my breakfast pass). The swimming pool was quite nice and good way to relax after a long day working. The breakfast in the morning was a little disappointing, it was some generic cereals, bagels/toast and cold hard boiled eggs. Instead I bought some pancake mix and my own spatula and made pancakes for myself in my room (there is a grocery store close by). Definitely a nice place to stay while in Victoria.
When we checked in there was a bunch of stains on the carpet, but we're easygoing and figured since they are currently renovating we'd let it slide as it was clean. However when we checked out they tried to blame it on our dog who was in his crate whenever we were in the room which was mostly just to sleep. We will not be staying here again but rather at one of the other dog friendly places we've been before without issue next time.
