The staff was very accommodating and helpful and even supplied a microwave when we asked. The hotel is old and there is a smell mostly around the elevators but our room was huge. We enjoyed the hot tub everyday. There was never anyone at the pool but it was September so that was nice. We ate at several of the local restaurants and even enjoyed a street fair with delicious authentic food! I would stay here again.

We stayed in October, there were scary Halloween decorations throughout the property. My 5-year-old had to be carried through the lobby shielding her face because they frightened her so much. When I reached out to the manager, Scott (who was very difficult to get in touch with ) to talk about the scary decorations. I pointed out that at least the lobby might be a safe area with no scary decorations. He was dismissive, basically saying ‘sorry we love them and so does everyone else so we won’t be changing anything.’ We had one room in the tower, which was very lovely. We had one room in the old side, which was desperately in need of updating. We ate at the restaurant. The food was delicious and well priced; the service was great, but the decorations were a big problem.

The front desk staff was friendly. When requesting help for a non-working item in the room. It took 4 requests and over 2 hours to get maintenance to come to room to fix TV. The shower had hair on the shelfs. Stickers from previous items on comforter. Dirty walls around elevator buttons that looked like they had not been cleaned or painted in years.

Rooms were great condition and bathrooms looked new. I’m an amputee and no rooms were available at the time of my check in. The staff did some rearrangements and found me an accessible room. Loved how quiet the hotel was and beds were very comfortable.

Room was fine, as it’s a historic old hotel which is the charm but the windows and building are filthy with dust, dirt, cobwebs and overgrown trees. When there is only one small window in a room, it should be clean to allow light in. The first room we were assigned was like a dark, dingy cave. We opened the drapes to a wall of tree. The gym had broken down equipment so the morning workout we were hoping for was not available. Staff was friendly and rather accommodating by changing our room to a less cavelike room but it was still less than expected based on website photos. There was a car show going on which was an unexpected surprise but enjoyable. There was also a wedding which was nice except for the booming music that went on until 10:00 pm and if that wasn’t enough to delay sleep, the authorized or unauthorized “ghost tour” of the original hotel’s 2nd floor at 11:00 pm was less than enjoyable for those paying for a nights sleep before moving on the next morning. I was born and raised in SM and recently moved away. What a treat to stay at the SM Inn after 69 years. We’ve been recommending this inn for years to friends coming to town. Now I’m just embarrassed and will never consider another stay for myself or recommend to anyone. A hotel can keep its old historic charm and still be clean and fresh with an updated “dressing”

Staff was unable to help when a wedding party takedown of tables and chairs went past midnight and noise was entering room on and off throughout the night. Finally got to sleep and a party of about 30 noisy people came through the same patio area and woke me AGAIN! Not good.
