The Upham is an excellent way to see Santa Barbara and keep out of the chain hotels. It's a quick walk to coffee, shops, restaurants and is only a couple of blocks to State Street. The rooms are more like a historic home than a hotel, but they've been thoughtfully updated with heat / AC etc. The staff are as wonderful and knowledgeable as you'd imagine. We really enjoyed our long weekend stay.

The heater and fridge in the room were REALLY noisy and sounded old and “gaspy”

Conveniently close to everything: dining , places of interest and it’s a safe area. Also the place is very well kept and clean.

The property was nice and clean. The room was a bit small but it was clean. They provide you with continental breakfast and complimentary wine in the evening. The staff was nice and friendly. Overall, it was a nice and relaxing atmosphere.

I was there for business. 1 night. Close to downtown. Lots of options for food. Rooms are small and a little dated, but that is common for hotels in downtown Santa Barbara. I would stay here again.

I loved that it felt so genuine and historic. And the food at Louie's was AMAZING! All-around wonderful experience.

It was my first visit to Santa Barbara and after this stay at the Upham, I know it won't be my last. The staff was super helpful, cheerful and very knowledgable. My accommodations were perfect and comfortable. Continental breakfast was lovely, and enjoyed sitting on the sweet, cozy porch with other guests. I was wowed by the extras.....they offered a glass of red or white wine in the evening. I will definitely stay at the Upham again. I recommend it highly. Five stars in my book!

Charming appeal but lacking much needed modern upgrade such as bathroom tiles.

Beautiful gardens

Nice gardens and location. Breakfast and overall upkeep can be improved.

I really enjoyed the beautiful grounds. Location was great as we walked everywhere.

Nice hotel close to shopping and restaurants, centrally located and easy access to HWY 101. Hotel has a nice restaurant.

Really nice, cozy hotel within walking distance to everything.

Nice and quiet hotel with happy hour and great restaurant Louies.

This is not a 4 star hotel. It is very dated. The rooms are bare-bone, more like a motel in quality. The garden is fantastic though. A reasonable walking distance from all the restaurants as well as from the pier.
