Historic Cary House Hotel

We have stayed here for at least three winters. Love the cool rooms, old elevator and the general ambiance of a place built in 1857!

The hotel is right in the middle of placerville making it easy to get to restaurants and shops, etc. the room was clean and had a nice little kitchenette. If you are near the stairs you will hear everything. They advertise rooms with a view but there arent really any views unless you get a room on the front of the hotel, then you get a view of the historic street area. Overall, it was a good deal for the price and location.

We have been driving through Pacerville for many years on our way to LakeTahoe. This is the first time we have stayed a nitehere. The Cary house was a great experience. The young man Josh at the front desk was very accommodating, courteous and informative . Clean room with lots of history and great location! I will be staying here again in the future.

We had a great stay! Loved downtown, and all the historic sites. Great food at the pizza spot right down the road.

It's an old hotel, so don't be too picky (there is an old elevator with a weight limit, so plan for stairs). We had a great room complete with an unexpected kitchenette. Based on other reviews, we requested and were provided a room toward the back of the hotel in order to avoid any "last call" rowdies heading home at 2:00 am. Our room overlooked the adjoining courtyard ... lovely, until 6:00 am when the caretaker of the courtyard showed up and started cleaning and hosing everything down (we had all of our windows open). That was unfortunate; however, we are early risers anyway. Will definitely stay here again!!

I don't understand why this place is only rated 2 stars. I've stayed at 3-star places that weren't nearly as nice. The staff is friendly, though not extraordinary. Our two-room suite included a tidy little kitchenette. The beds were comfortable (the queen in the back room was the better of the two). The location couldn't be more convenient as a home base for a visit to Placerville and surrounding area.

Perfect place. park the car and then enjoy the town.

We were traveling on motorcycles and wanted to be within walking distance to local shops and restaurants. This place was perfect. The old elevator was pretty cool. The staff were very nice.

We stayed here for our anniversary. It was a cozy room, but couldn't sleep well with the notion of being haunted. I kept feeling my arm and hand being touched! Other than that bed was comfy, room was clean and comfortable. Good price for a little overnight getaway. The Brick restaurant was great, good food and cocktails. Wine tasting right next door also a plus .you can drink without worrying about driving.good experience overall.good breakfast too.

We drove up from San Francisco looking to get away and explore the Gold Country. We were welcomed warmly by the staff and enjoyed the convenient location. The Lobby and building was history gold country and even had a signature of Mark Twain and Buffalo Bill. The Wells Fargo state coach used to stop at the hotel. It was great fun and great starting point to explore Main street's many interesting shops.

The Hotel was built in 1857 and sits in the middle of Placerville, you can walk to everything. One complaint. The staff had you sign a "No Partying" agreement, however, a group of young people were getting very noisy out side of our room and the staff goes home after 10pm so there was no one to enforce the rule.

Wine Tasting and going to the local casino.

The Hotel is located right on the main street of Placerville and convenient to incredible shops and restuarants. There is so much history in the town of Placerville and very worth going there..

Ideal location for area wine tasting. Large and Spacious room. Friendly staff. And our room MAY have been haunted--lamp kept turning on by itself. Unfortunately, the hotel is across the street from a noisy and late-night bar.

First the Good: Neat old historic building, staircase and lobby. Nice Staff. Very comfortable king bed. At time of our stay elevator was broken. Seemed clean, nice towels. Now the not so good: Air conditioner was unable to keep up, and it wasn't particularly hot outside. Opening windows helped, but bar across street noisy with window open. Didn't bother me that much, but a light sleeper is going to need the AC to work! Furniture and fixtures very dated, but in good working order. If your used to brand new, exacting standards in your hotels, you won't like it. If you want it clean, and don't mind some eccentricity's, you should do fine here. I would check to see if elevator is working, and if their air conditioner is keeping up! I'm going to check that I would recommend to a friend, however it would be with caveats.

the historic Cary House was very comfortable however our room faced the street and was a little loud untill 11:00 or so the air conditioner didn't work but you could open the window..and listen to the people across the street. I liked the fact that we could walk to dinner and the shops. The room was decoarated to fit the victorian era..very elegant

After having to pospone our trip 2times the staff was very accomadating. We were very pleasantly surprised to find they had given us an even better roomthan we had exspected. The history involed in the hotel is evident in it's well restored atmosphere. You fell like you've step back in time.We had asitting room ,kitchen.t.v..aseparate bedroom king size WONDERFUL bed and aseperat bathroom w/ alarge walk in shower and the best part being on the 4th floor with aview of old town Placervill.
