Historic charm. In town location within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and an electric car charger.

Our room was only half ready at 7 pm - it looked like the maid service left half way through the job. The front desk ckerk had to finish preparing our room. He was very apologetic snd helpful.

Loved the historic vibe at the Cary House: from the 1926 elevator to the wide assortment of antiques and care taken in room appointments. Great location for anything you want to do in Placerville.

The historical ambience is enchanting. It's a lovely hotel.

Cute but small rooms, adding to reach minimum characters.

Cool experience in a cool hotel. Loved the room names and the ambiance of the place.

Great location, close to Apple Hill. This is my second time staying at the hotel and stayed only one night. The room was a bit chilly and heater didn't work. Also there was a loud fan sound from outside the building that was going on and off all night so I didn't sleep. I told the clerk in the morning and he was very nice and said he would check into that. Also gave me a little discount on room rate. Overall I do like this place but would stay in different room next time due to sound.

Cute hotel on Main Street. Close to restaurants and unique shopping.

The room I stayed in was excellent. This hotel and the town of Placerville were very pleasant discoveries on my long road trip. I’d recommend both to anyone.

The hotel retained its historic charm while upgrading the rooms. For the price you get large rooms, a kitchenette that can be used to prepare home style meals, tv, internet, etc..

Beautiful hotel with lots of charm. Really liked the old fashioned elevator. Was a bit cold and heater took a long time to even consider getting in the shower.

Reserved 3 nights through Orbitz. Upon check in was told only 2 nights were actually reserved. They blamed Orbitz and would not accommodate us for a 3rd night in the room despite our reservation in hand. Manager upon check out was rude "thanking me" for my poor check in review on Orbitz. When I tried to explain that they were throwing us out of the hotel night early and that was the reason for the bad review. He just said "whatever I get it" and waited his hand then starting talking to his colleague ignoring me. Note the rooms are very small and outdated with just a bed and maybe a chair. Hot water does take 10 minutes to reach the rooms and th bathrooms border on unfunctionally small. Blankets and pillows were dirty as well. Positives are free parking, cute lobby and prime location. But from my experience, stay far far away and if you do book double check your reservation before arrival as the check in lady told me this has happened dozens of times to customers because Orbitz system is not synced with theirs. But I think they bumped us for a friend of the owners. A horrible experience all around. Spent our last night at the Hampton Inn in Folsom. 10x better experience. I await the hotel's spin in replying to my honest review. Do not believe whatever sarcastic & rude comments they write. I have no doubt it will be a doozy.

We have stayed here for at least three winters. Love the cool rooms, old elevator and the general ambiance of a place built in 1857!

The hotel is right in the middle of placerville making it easy to get to restaurants and shops, etc. the room was clean and had a nice little kitchenette. If you are near the stairs you will hear everything. They advertise rooms with a view but there arent really any views unless you get a room on the front of the hotel, then you get a view of the historic street area. Overall, it was a good deal for the price and location.

We have been driving through Pacerville for many years on our way to LakeTahoe. This is the first time we have stayed a nitehere. The Cary house was a great experience. The young man Josh at the front desk was very accommodating, courteous and informative . Clean room with lots of history and great location! I will be staying here again in the future.

We had a great stay! Loved downtown, and all the historic sites. Great food at the pizza spot right down the road.

It's an old hotel, so don't be too picky (there is an old elevator with a weight limit, so plan for stairs). We had a great room complete with an unexpected kitchenette. Based on other reviews, we requested and were provided a room toward the back of the hotel in order to avoid any "last call" rowdies heading home at 2:00 am. Our room overlooked the adjoining courtyard ... lovely, until 6:00 am when the caretaker of the courtyard showed up and started cleaning and hosing everything down (we had all of our windows open). That was unfortunate; however, we are early risers anyway. Will definitely stay here again!!

I don't understand why this place is only rated 2 stars. I've stayed at 3-star places that weren't nearly as nice. The staff is friendly, though not extraordinary. Our two-room suite included a tidy little kitchenette. The beds were comfortable (the queen in the back room was the better of the two). The location couldn't be more convenient as a home base for a visit to Placerville and surrounding area.
