Washington Square Hotel

3.5 out of 5.0

This was only my third visit to NYC (the second for my partner), and the hotel was ideally located for us as a base to explore the city from. Greenwich Village is our favorite neighborhood, and there were scores of great restaurants and cafes nearby, not to mention Washington Square Park. I would have given this 10 stars if I could!

Maybe it's a nice hotel by New York standards, everyone hears about how tiny apartments are and what not but if you're coming in from out of town be prepared to expect accommodations that are at or below motel-quality everywhere else in the United States.

Rooms are tiny, it is New York though. Overall clean and in a great location right next to Washington Square Park.

Nice and clean hotel in wonderful location. Nice and friendly staff, clean and comfortable room. Good value for NYC hotel. Would stay again.

Too expensive. Too small room. No refrigerator. No water. So so.......

This is my go to hotel for vacation in NYC. The rooms aren't huge, but they are comfortable, uniquely decorated, and clean. Also, who needs a huge room? While in NYC you shouldnt be in the room that much anyways! The staff is polite and like things running smoothly and done correctly, I highly respect that. The have a nice lounge and restaraunt / bar downstairs. It is located in a beautiful section of Greenwich Village (across from Washington Square Park) with lots of food and entertainment opportunities within blocks of its location. I HIGHLY recommend this place. They keep me coming back.

I have stayed at the Washington Square Hotel several times many years apart. It has always been a great experience. Staff are genuinely warm and welcoming. Easy access to subways. The area around the hotel seems more residential and less a tourist destination. Lots of restaurants with one of the city's best across the street. It's next to a popular city park and a major university. The hotel was full of international visitors.

The hotel let us check in early, was clean, beautiful lobby, nice room. We had a great weekend in the city and will definitely be back.

Room is clean, location is very convenient to public transportation and 30 minutes walking distance to harbor and time square. Breakfast is ok. Restaurant dinner is to my taste. Just my room is on the way to restaurant, very noisy in early morning and restaurant closing time.

We stayed one night and it was a nice change of scenery to stay in a non-chain hotel. Although the rooms were small, this is to be expected in NYC and everything was clean and comfortable. Free breakfast was decent, although there isn't much seating available. Easy to walk to attractions and restaurants.

OMG We love this place. It is the best location. A beautiful hotel with much history. The bellmen are the best. So sweet, friendly, and informative.

This hotel is lovely and has an interesting history of famous guests including: the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. The staff really makes you feel welcome and are always available and helpful. The rooms are nice and clean with standard upgrades one expects. Located right across from Washington Square, there's an ambience of academic energy and creativity. There's always something fun to see in the beautiful park. It's really quite breathtaking. All the cabs seemed to know this hotel- good sign I think! There are great restaurants surrounding the hotel. We found this area is a wonderful alternative to staying in the more chaotic Times Square area. Washington Square Hotel is a jewel.

Good quality hotel in a great location for Greenwich Village, West Village. Helpful staff, fine rooms (nothing fancy, but clean, comfy, serviceable). Contintenal bkfst with restaurant breakfast available. 1 block from major subway station.

Took my 18 y/o daughter to NYC for high school graduation present. Long weekend in NYC and Greenwich Village. Hotel was great with friendly, helpful staff, good breakfast, great location and access to transportation options. Will return there again with my wife for a romantic holiday.

Always a pleasure to stay at the Washington Square Hotel. Great location right across the street from the park, pleasant rooms and fantastic staff. Rooms are smallish but comfortable, a good value for New York.

I've stayed at this hotel twice and will be happy to many more in the future. It's cozy, quiet, and the neighborhood and location are fantastic. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only tiny 'you should know' is: the rooms and bathroom are small, as most NYC older hotels are. That's quite typical - not unusual - but if you can't deal with small rooms, this is not for you. My experience there has been wonderful.

Above all, great location on beautiful Wash Sq Park, very close to W 4th St subway that gets you all over the city. Good room and bathroom size with exception of closet. Great value. Attentive, friendly, and bright staff.

I stayed in this hotel with a buddy. The room came with 2 Twin beds. Even though the hotel was overall very nice, the room was rather small, but sufficient. The complimentary breakfast was better than expected. The location is great - next to Washington Square Park and very close to a subway station. We had a great time, and overall I'd say the hotel definitely lived up to and partially exceeded its 3 star rating.

I loved the area around the hotel. The hotel itself is what you would expect for the money.

Access to subway lines is excellent. Interesting dining options nearby from frugal to fancy. NYU is also near, which brings its own international community of students and scholars. Hotel staff are warm and helpful. Stayed here twice in less than six months.
