While the property is beautiful and the environment is great the concierge was very hard to contact prior to our stay even though I had been emailing multiple times over the course of 3 weeks. I was then told that the concierge was away on a retreat or something. It's strange that nobody can reply to an email over the course of that many days/weeks. As a result we were not able to coordinate with the hotel/spa to book massages during out stay. Not the end of the world but definitely a bummer when you're looking forward to a treat after a 12 hour flight. On the first day, valet forgot our luggage and then told us over an hour later that it had been sitting in the driveway/entrance because nobody told them what to do even though we collected our ticket from them in person and gave them our information, dinner at Naupaka was unfortunate on the first night of our stay due to bugs and then being told it's because we ordered calamari. Well then calamari shouldn't be on the menu. On another visit to Naupaka we asked for two smaller tbles to be joined for our party of 6 and were told that is not possible but we watched watched as they joined tables for another party. And when confronted, the hostess turned and walked away. This was our 4th visit to Hawaii and we also found it just strange that nobody at this resort greets you at entry. We were visiting for a combination birthday celebration, babymoon, and first visit to Hawaii for my parents. It was just underwhelming.
Overall we really enjoyed our time at the Westin Hapuna. The staff were friendly, the room and view from the room exceeded our expectations, the adult pool was wonderful and easy to get chairs and the beach was perfect. The cons with this property is that the food is just not very good for lunch or dinner. We expected to pay high prices but we also expected the quality of food to be better. The food at their sister hotel, Mauna Kea, is for some reason much better and reasonably convenient to get to since you can take the shuttle if you have reservations.
Wonderful 4 night stay in September! Loved the resort and loved Hapuna Beach. Most beautiful beach on the Big Island.
I don’t know where to start! The hotel itself was impeccable! The cleanliness was well maintained, and consistent throughout the entire resort. We loved the open-air concept, with views of the ocean from nearly everywhere in the hotel. The furniture in the rooms, common spaces, pools, and beach were all quality, clean, and comfortable, which I really appreciate. I absolutely loved the private screen door on the front of the room that allowed the breeze to come through from the balcony, so well thought out. It allowed us to truly appreciate the ocean air and being in Hawaii without feeling like we are cooped up in a hotel room. Food was excellent. There wasn’t a time that we weren’t impressed with the quality, temperature, and the flavors. What really made our stay exceptional was the staff, however. Every person we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and genuine. It makes this resort stand out from the rest, and made us feel truly at home during our stay. So many staff to highlight to the manager, as we were so impressed by everyone’s professionalism and consistency. It’s clear that the Westin pays attention to all the aforementioned details, and it was exceptional in every way. We are already in the process of booking a return trip, we loved it so much. Don’t waste your time or money going elsewhere. :)
Good: Good sandy beach. Good snorkeling with fish right at the beach.Nice looking grounds. Bad: Initial checkin person was not friendly at all(rude) or helpful with fulfilling all the covid hoops one needs complete to stay at their resort... might as well have been cattle. Everyone must have a smartphone with everything covid related on it including urls. Only one long winded path to the beach thru all the timeshare condos and 10 sets of stairs. Mandatory resort fee is annoying too... why not just include in the original price. Hotel is understaffed so good luck getting any place to eat on the property at night. Stayed at many places in the Caribbean and Mexico.. this was very low on the list considering bang for the buck.
Beautiful beach, very nice hotel. Restaurants were very good and mai tai's were excellent, but very pricey!
The physical property (beach, building, views) is stunning but the interior furnishings and beach and pool equipment are in serious need of replacement/repair. Service was fine but not enough restaurants or bars.
It was under construction, which was noisy during the day, but otherwise, the hotel is perfect! So many cozy nooks to lounge, amazing views, and comfy beds. I can't wait to come back here.
Beach was an excellent beach, property was clean. Food was abysmal, the parking is unexpectedly expensive and the property is under a major construction process.
The Westin Hapuna is an absolutely gorgeous hotel with an amazing beach. The staff were all friendly and helpful whenever we needed anything or had questions. The property was kept very clean as were our rooms. Food and drinks were a little on the pricey side but kind of to be expected at a hotel but at least all the food and drinks were tasty. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Located close to the highway so made traveling to other areas in Hawaii super easy.
The Westin Hapuna Beach does not guarantee bed-selection, so if you book a King bed room, say for your honeymoon, you may end up in a two-queen-bed room.
The property is along Hapuna beach. So there is easy access from the beach and to the pool.
The staff go above and beyond to make sure you have all you need to have the best vacation and stay.
What brings me back to this property is the employees. This property was recently taken over by Westin and is definitely more "Corporate" now than Aloha. I really miss the Hapuna environment. PLEASE BE ADVISED that this property now not only charges high resort fees but now charges separately for parking. After you pay the high room reservation charges, be prepared to pay another $56.25 per day for resort and parking fees!!! The resort fee used to include parking, but it doesn't anymore AND they do not show that on any of the websites. Again good-bye to the Aloha and hello to Corporate America- Why deceive the guests?
My stay ocean view room ,the view was a construction building view.
