Conveniently close to the airport, the Lihue location also provides a good starting point for exploring the island. We had a nice suite with a balcony - views of the pool, ocean and hills. The rooms were clean, and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped for eating (i.e. dishes, silverware) but if you are planning on cooking, you’ll be more limited in your options.
I truly felt like I was in Paradise. Impeccably clean and extremely comfortable. View was magnificent. Definately the nicest place I’ve ever stayed! Fully stocked and also have a storage room with beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers... these are all available free to borrow. The grounds and bird sanctuary were beautiful. Truly lucky to have stayed here.
My husband and I have stayed at the Lagoons every year for four years and LOVE it! As a matter of fact, I am writing this review from the lanai. Sadly, it is our last night here but have already made plans to visit again next year. Service has been above and beyond. Darren even took links out of a watch for husband. Maybe because he didn't want to let his tools out of sight but wow what service!! Thank you Darren! Note to management: I think you should know your staff seems happier than they have seemed on past visits. They were never bad but they just seem happy.
The view is incredible of the Lihue harbor. The units are beautiful. The service from all was 5 star. The gym is good with a number of weight training machines, free weights, and cardio machines. Unfortunately, it was not a quiet resort. The concept of the wall of windows in the living room opening to the lanai such that it is open to the outdoors is nice. The design of the patios gives everyone a view. But, if you are lovers of quiet and privacy, you may not open the doors or use the patios much as you can hear all your neighbors and all their conversations. Everyone is different and this is still a 5 star resort. I would probably try to go somewhere quieter however next time in Kauai. The proximity and use of the large Marriott resort was convenient as well.
I called Marriott Lagoons directly to get correct information. Ashair (not sure if spelled correctly) was very pleasant and helpful. She told me they don't have a designated shuttle from the airport but the if you call the hotel once you have arrived they can have the shuttle from the other Marriott pick you up. She did suggest that we rent a car as their are only a few restaurants the shuttle takes you to and if you are there a week you will want to venture out. Also if you want to go to a grocery store the shuttle does not go there.she suggested to rent car at airport for best selection and price. Looking forward to our stay!
This was our second time staying at the Lagoons. Just one of the most beautiful properties in the Marriott Vacation Club. Since it originally was built to be condos there are special features in each unit. If you like to cook you will be pleased to know that the refrigerator/freezer is Sub Zero, a two tiered high end silent dishwasher and the stove is also high end. The beds in almost all Marriott’s are superior, but these just might be the best anywhere. They are firm yet there is a fairly substantial pillow top. The wide doors to the patio are premium, unlike other typical doors at other resorts. There are silent ceiling fans in each bedroom and in the common area. We were on the first floor, which I think is preferable. We had a big patio with table and chairs and two chaise lounges. I ate every breakfast on the patio and just marveled at the exquisite surroundings. Birds chirped and chickens wandered by. Just steps beyond our patio was the pool and hot tub. We had an accessible room The gym was adequate, but really could be better especially because there was so much space to add more equipment. I would like to see added stretching equipment which could be as simple as a stretching chair which does not cost much. This resort is not the only resort that is missing stretching equipment. The other Marriott Resort—Kauai Beach Club - is nearby and is on the beach and has restaurants and other facilities that you can use. But there is no question at all that the Lagoons is the superior resort, especially if you plan to use the kitchen. The colorful lush surroundings at the Lagoons are so well maintained by the grounds keeping staff every day of the week.
Aloha ! We came from Australia to spend 8 days here. It was a wonderful experience. Marriott Lagoons is a great hotel and it was one of the best trips we have had. ( We travel a lot ! ) We stayed at Marriott Beach Club Hotel last year and it was going to be interesting to compare the pair. They are both great. I preferred Lagoons over Beach Club as it is more laid back and relaxing. The staff here are amazing. We were greeted by the fabulous McKenna at Reception and for the whole stay McKenna was seamless and professional. McKenna’s knowledge helped us save time and money when we were planning our trips and activities. The hotel is near Lihue airport and when you arrive at the airport you exit the terminal and turn right and walk down until you get to information desk. Call the hotel and a free shuttle will collect you there. The trip takes 5 minutes. Alternatively cross the road and get a free shuttle to car rentals. The Lagoons have a free shuttle to the Beach Club or you can walk in an easy 10 minutes. You need to request a day pass to get towels at the Beach Club. We brought our own and chilled at the beach when we could not get a pass as they are limited. You can still room charge when eating and dining at Marriott Beach Club. They have a great Happy Hour. The Nukele is a cool cocktail. We hired a car during our stay and parking at the hotel was easy. The hotel gives you a parking slip to put on your dashboard but you need to ask. I loved the setting and the views. The views of the coast and golf course are stunning. The rooms are great with excellent cooking and laundry facilities. The pool and jacuzzi are lovely and never crowded. There is a great BBQ section here to cook your own. The biggest drawback here I suppose is no bar/restaurant/room service. It did not matter to us. There is a little shop next to reception that sells essentials like beer, toiletries and milk !! The Beach Club has a little shop as well and there is a cash point there. I recommend going to Safeway or Costco and doing a shop for your stay. It is about 8 minutes drive past Lihue on the way to Poipu. There is a shopping centre near it which has other dining options including Starbucks. The hotel is about 30 minutes drive to Poipu and about 45 minutes to Port Allen. We ate out a lot including Timbers, Marriott Beach Club Bar, Duke’s which is a 2 minute walk from Marriott Beach Club and 2 minutes further there is a multitude of Lihue restaurants. Mahalo McKenna and all the amazing staff at Marriott Lagoons. Highly recommend. 5 stars.
My advice to those who haven't been here is to read all the reviews carefully and decide what's important to you. I was here one year ago with family and returned a second time with several different family members primarily because my 98 year old mom wanted to return to this place specifically. We ranged in age from 49 to 98, no kids. The 3 bedroom villa was perfect with plenty of space. Our experience was that it was very clean, excellent staff both in the lobby, at the pool, and the housekeeping/maintenance. The staff provide several essential safety items for my mom for use in the bathroom. Yes, the pool is small, however, the split level usually meant that the upper area was primarily used by adults with the kids generally in the lower pool which the slide dumped into. The upper pool was also perfect for mom to get to and get in and out easily. There is a small marketplace in the lobby slightly smaller than that at Desert Springs Villas in Palm Springs which I've stayed at many, many times. We intended to eat at the condo as well as restaurants so the fully stocked kitchen was perfect for us. Yep helicopters flew overhead maybe 8-10 times daily otherwise it was quiet and relaxing most of the time. . . and this was during the 3-4 weeks of Easter breaks across the country. Even with the doors wide open and sitting on the patio, we didn't hear any airplane noise except for twice when for a short time, planes had to change runways to get the tailwind. We also had military jets take off twice for probably 15 minutes each time. We weren't particularly interested in spending a day at the beach nor surfing thus it wasn't an issue not having access. We did venture to the Resort thinking to have lunch there, however, with mom and her walker it took us 1/2 hour to work our way to the cafe and we only got 1/2 way there. There is a labyrinth of special passages for disabled folks that isn't well marked. One guest took pity on us and found us a map which she had outlined the route. There was no way my mom could have gotten to the cafe/pool area and back so we turned around and left. Although it's a beautiful resort and pool with ample eating areas, if you're disabled, it's probably not the place for you. Thus we were extremely happy with our choice as it enabled mom to enjoy and get to any place she wanted to go around the place. Construction work at Timber whatever appeared to be done. When reserving, "Island" = 1-2 floor with "ocean" = 3-4 floors. 1214 had a terrific view. There are no 3 bdrm condos on the first floor so consider using fewer points for an "island" 3 bdrm.
Rooms are beautiful but no amenities. Small pool and they only give out limited passes to Marriott with NEA h access near by. So if you don’t ask early you don’t get passes. You have to go every day to get a pass and difficult to plan your day. We literally were told to get off the lawn chairs on beach and sit on ground since we don’t have pool passes. Even though there were multiple chairs open. What happened to Marriott hospitality to their own members. We are Titanium members with multiple weeks and vacation club points. Very disappointing to have so little amenities. Marriott should be more clear on what is and is not available.
Great Room + Great View + Great Staff = Great Family Fun! ----------- This is the best resort and room we've had with Marriott Vacation Club, and we have visited several. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The views of Nawilliwilli Bay are awesome. Nice, relaxing... worth it! ----------- A sign in the lobby shared that the Hawaiian word for the week and the visit: Ku'uipo, meaning sweetheart. It's easy to have a fun, relaxing time with your Ku'uipo and kids when you're at Marriott's Kauai Lagoons! ----------- We visited Hawaii for our 2018 summer family vacation, visiting the Big Island, Oahu, and Kauai. All were very nice and we had a great time. We planned the trip to be much most adventuresome on the Big Island and Oahu and more relaxing on Kauai. So on Kauai, we spent more time enjoying the activities at the resort; we stayed at Marriott's Kauai Lagoons - Kalanipu'u. ----------- Thanks to the front desk team - Candee, McKenna, and Asher. All three helped us figure out what to do at the resort, answering quite a few questions from us during the course of our visit... they made us feel right at home! McKenna big help with local restaurants... With nice, big, full kitchens in the rooms, we planned few times eating out when on Kauai. McKenna helped us find pizza when we first arrived, SPAM on another day, and also pointed us to some great sushi at Sushi Katshu. Spam We wanted to have some on the other two islands and finally got some breakfast with SPAM on Kauai, at Roland's Mixed Plate. That was a really good breakfast. Sushi Katsu We wrote a separate review for that fantastic restaurant. McKenna was spot-on for this one... so good my wonderful wife and I enjoyed for date night, and then we all had our last dinner here before the overnight flight home. Great recommendations! Thank you, McKenna! ----------- We did many more things here at the resort in Kauai, than on the other two islands, including: - grilling Hawaiian-grown steaks on the grill for dinner - walked to the edge of the golf course, to listen to the waves crashing far below... and watch a plane or two landing nearby... yes, this resort is right by the end of the Lihue airport runway, but there are relatively few flights and you really can't hear the planes if you're not listening for them. - We enjoyed seeing the Moon next to Venus as they danced behind the clouds. - breakfasts and a couple lunches and dinners on the balcony - more virgin pina coladas, made in the blender in the room, with this recipe: In a blender filled with 4 cups of ice cubes, combine 3/4 cup pineapple juice and 1/2 cup coconut cream. Blend everything together until the mixture is smooth and frothy. Pour into glasses and add a slice of pineapple as a garnish. And for a festive look, don't forget the little umbrella. Source: Good Housekeeping's website ----------- The activity desk team - Princess and Ellen, for fun with smores, poolside snacks, the travel bags and luggage tags. The Maze / Activity desk hosted these activities and more while we were there: - bamboo pole fishing. They both caught several small tilapia, who all clearly loved the hot dogs that we used for bait. We just had a bamboo pole, line, a weight and a hook. That was fun! - ukulele lessons!... that was fun and a little challenging... but Joey was helpful for us. We learned "walk walk run run" and we played a "Lava" song... that required three chord with challenging finger positions. - tote bags - we all painted the Kilauea volcano lava boat tour and the Na Pali Coast catamaran and had fun with the art. - we made luggage tags; we were late from the previous activity, and Princess stayed since she knew we really wanted to make them. - Mom and Dad enjoyed for Sangrias (Kirkwood Pinot Grigio and Malibu rim, lemon and lime, and some cut up oranges - nice!), and we all had snacks by the pool - dizzy soccer penalty kicks on the grass near the pool, then 2-on-2 soccer - scores - swimming and catching the pool and also enjoying the hot tub - watching "Jurassic Park" with other families at the "Dive in" Theater. - - seeing even more chickens running around the island - swimming and boogie boarding and having a great afternoon in the surf of Kalapaki Beach, at the next-door Marriott resort... they have a shuttle drive you between the two properties. ----------- We definitely look forward to visiting again!
