The Dolphin Bay hotel is lovely! I experienced a much better connection to the island and culture, by lodging here. It is not a “commercial box hotel”. DBHotel is local. Beautiful grounds and close to town. The staff is accommodating and friendly. Opi, I’ll be back as soon as I can!

warm friendly staff and lovely garden at the back. has a motel feel but is a comfortable place walking distance to downtown Hilo. i would stat again

We stayed here Aug 10, 2022, for 1 night, visiting friends in the area before heading to a fancy condo on the Kohala coast. This hotel is an excellent choice for an affordable short-term stay in Hilo. The hotel is 53 years old (and looks its age: cinderblock walls, dated style, no AC, mature landscaping), in a shady, quiet, mostly residential area on the outskirts of downtown Hilo. It was clean and well-maintained; we had a full kitchen. The wifi was a little weak due to the walls, but fully functional. The breakfast is modest, but perfect for Hawaii: excellent homemade banana bread, fresh papayas, and coffee/tea. By far the best thing about this hotel was the staff: every single person we met was extremely friendly, charming, and helpful. So if you need a modest place to stay in Hilo, a great value, with absolutely delightful staff, and you don't need AC or a flashy, luxury beach resort, I think you will be very happy here. We will certainly come again next time we're in Hilo.

No AC, mildew smell in the room. Decided not to stay and find another hotel. Told I wouldn’t be charged. Was charged twice . When I went back to get charged removed because we never stated on the property, staff said they had to wait for owner to do it. Even tho he had been in the office the day prior and coins have handled it then as promised. At that time there was only one charge. The next day there were two charges. All posted to my account, not pending. I’ll update to when I talk to owner.

Very friendly and relaxed vibe. The grounds were stunning. The hotel is a little dated but clean

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Cute, clean, and close to city centre. John and staff very helpful. We had the "2 bedroom" room with kitchenette. Very comfy beds and spacious for our party of 3 adults. Look no further, stay here! Great garden, coffee, and banana bread!!!

The staff were so friendly and accommodating. It was the best of 2 worlds: feeling very homey and connected to local Hawaiian style living and 2, vacation lifestyle and tourist needs. The best sleep I’ve had in a long time in comfy beds and clean bedding. Fresh fruit and banana bread for breakfast.

Dolphin Bay Hotel is more like a B&B. 10 min walk to downtown Hilo it's a great place to base yourself for the volcano park and 2018 eruption devastation viewing. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of activities and sites on the island. Breakfast is simple but tasty and gets you going. Next to the hotel there is a small nature walk with an amazing assortment of plants and animals. We stayed in one of the larger rooms and was comfortable for two of us and two teenage kids. Highly recommend.

Personally I really quite like a little place that’s close to everything downtown. Omits the need to drive. Airy spot, a little loud if all windows and doors are open, as they are generally in Hawaii for the evening breeze. No AC FYI. Totally local hotel.

Nice rooms, slightly dated but clean. Very close to downtown areas and the farmers market.

A very nice place in a good location. Very simple but comfortable. Great for those who are not looking for a touristy feel and are not expecting luxury. I recommend getting a room with a balcony as that was the best part of the stay. It was nice to hear birds in the morning and frogs at night instead of the "traditional" song and dance often performed at large resorts.

Room was very spacious, had a well equipped kitchen with a little table. Some rooms had small patios which looked inviting.

Property was very nice, clean and good staff. The internet is almost unusable? Several of the rooms are rented to local college students not sure if that causes the internet problems but it is very annoying when they use the make shift “Quad” (which was right outside our balcony lanai) At 2:00 am returning from? And again at 4:45 am leaving for ? Not sure I would have rented there if I knew about the college students.

it was clean, spacious, easy walk to downtown, and pleasant

Great location. Great Staff. The rooms are very dated.
