This place was magical. The lobby was so cozy and the deck beckoned you to watch the sunrise. They thought of everything. The rooms were so warm and inviting and the staff was so nice. The breakfast was absolutely perfect and I don't have words for the beautiful beach. I can't say enough.
I came across this B&B about a year and a half ago and thought what a beautiful place this would be to stay someday. However, my husband and I have NEVER paid this amount of money to stay at a B&B or hotel so I was unsure about it. A year and a half later, we had gone out of town and on our drive back to Florida, we decided to stay the night at this B&B on a whim. We were very excited when we drove up. It was beautiful on the outside and a gorgeous location on the beach. The main floor with the front desk, living room, dining room, and porch was very nice to with a beautiful view. The clerk started to check us in, then another Guest who had a reservation arrived right after she started the check in process with us. She stopped our check in process and went to the other Guest and checked them in ahead of us. This took approximately 10-15 minutes. After this Guest was checked in, the Clerk started our check-in again. A few minutes later the same thing happened, another Guest arrived, she stopped doing what she was doing with us and checked them in ahead of us. At this point I was getting very annoyed. After waiting a total of 30 minutes for her to finally get back to us after checking in two other guests ahead of us. she finally finished our check-in. I thought this was extremely rude regardless of whether we were a walk-in Guest or had a reservation, that shouldn't have mattered. We arrived before both of the other two Guests so she should have finished with us first then, move on the next person. I've never had this sort of thing happen before. Once we got in our room, I discovered that there was only 1 bath towel, and 1 hand towel for a king bed room and for 2 guests. There also was no extra blankets. When we went down for the Reception hour, I informed the Clerk that we needed an extra set of towels, face wash clothes, and an extra blanket. She apologized and said she would bring up the towels, but said there should be a blanket in the cabinet. I told her I looked and there were none but would double check. When we went back to the room, I checked for the extra blanket again and there was none, I called the front desk to let her know (at this point she still had not brought the extra set of towels either). She apologized and said they would be brought right up. Shortly thereafter, she delivered 1 bath towel and 1 blanket. At this point, I was really taken off guard that they didn't even bring a "set" of towels (bath towel, face cloth, and hand towel). We've stayed at many hotels in the past and have NEVER had this happen. And they acted as if it was no big deal. Overall the room was nice but nothing extraordinary, certainly not worth the price. The hallway, room, and bathroom were pretty outdated and in much need of updating. The reception hour was ok but could have been better. They served complimentary beer and wine, and what tasted and appeared to be frozen pre-packaged baked potato skins (probably from Sam's Club or the like), crackers, cheese, and a cheese spread...definitely no Gourmet cooking here. Breakfast was good but when we went down to the dining room there was at least 30 minutes left for the breakfast serving hours. They had run out of about 1/3 of the items they were serving and did not replenish them. This was very disappointing. My husband and I decided that what you are paying for is the location and the fact that it's a beautiful looking Cape Cod style home on the beach. Overall, we had a nice time but not worth the money...disappointing
Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is some fixes needed in the Ocean House we stayed in - peeling wallpaper, leaky faucets, creaky bed, sticky locks (but the last two are old, so...). Otherwise really gorgeous location right on the beach that's remote and beautiful, staff is totally amazing. Breakfast buffet exquisite. We stayed here almost 20 years ago and the new owners upgraded the main inn and dining room, and it's a beautiful theme that runs through the place and next door Ocean House. I really commend the owners for running a wonderful inn in a fabulous location. A couple of tweaks here and there are all that's needed. The hospitality we were shown was appreciated and we'll definitely be back and recommend. Really couldn't ask for more when staying on Amelia Island and wanting to be close to historic Fernandina Beach's downtown. It's a ten minute drive or less, and this is also near parks, restaurants. Just love it.
i gifted my daughter and her new husband a few nights at this beautiful lodge for a short honeymoon. The staff delivered champagne and even placed rose petals on the bed! The newlyweds were especially impressed with the delicious breakfast buffet with a view of the ocean. They enjoyed lunch on the beach relaxing in the umbrella protected lounge chairs provided, and happy hour on the porch in the evening with beer, wine, and tasty hors d'oeuvres. Thanks Elizabeth Pointe Lodge for your personal touch making this such a wonderful mini moon!
This place deserves NO STARS. My mom, sister-in-law and I planned a weekend get away after my mom had recovered from a knee replacement. She had been stuck in the house was so excited for this trip that she planned to go all out for it. She chose The Elizabeth Pointe Lodge because it was an older hotel (her kinda thing) on the beach and looked beautiful and upscale according to the website. She was looking forward to setting in the chairs looking at the beach talked about on the site. She was still hurting a little so she knew she would not be able to get out and do much. She would be spending a lot of time in the room and watching the beach. We arrived late Friday night and checked in. Upon exiting the elevator to go to our room, we were immediately hit with the smell of a strong cleaning product the reminded us of kitty litter. We got to our room and decided it was definitely not worth the amount we paid. (my poor mama) We talked to the front desk and was told the manager would be back in the morning, so we stayed. The bed my mom and I slept on was noticeably short than the other which we thought was odd. The wood floors felt like there was a thin layer of syrup on them. I forgot when I showered so had to wash my feet again after getting my shoes. The miniature tv was placed so that it pointed at the door. When we woke the next morning both my mom and my backs hurt when we discovered that our bed was basically two box springs. No wonder it was so much shorter. We were able to speak to the manager who explained that the floors were every old and that may explain the sticky but offered to have them cleaned. My mom’s home was built in the late 1800s, she has managed to not have sticky floors and she explained that to the manager. We did not want to stay another night so she said she would contact the owners and have them call us. We ate breakfast which was about the only nice thing in the whole place. We checked with the manager about the owner and she hadn’t heard back from them. (Note they live nearby) So we went to sit where mom had been looking forward to sitting. The chairs were placed perfectly in front of some sand dunes. We laughed it off because we should not have expected anything different, so we sat on the balcony near the breakfast area where we discovered that the railing was placed so that it blocked the view of the beach when sitting. We rearranged most of the chairs so my mom could at least see the beach. We checked with the manager and she still had not heard back from the owners so we asked if she would call again. She said she had called and texted multiple times, both the husband and wife. We then went for a drive to downtown Fernandina. It was beautiful. Still no answer from the owners. At this point it was lunch time. We told the manager who was very apologetic that something needed to be done, we are not staying here another night, we needed to book a new room AND needed a refund. She said she could not issue a full refund without the owners but could at least give us a refund for one of the nights, which she did. We told her to please have the owners contact us as soon as possible. We never heard back from them TO. THIS. DAY. I understand that it it an older hotel and that is part of the glam. I have stayed in many hotels that were old but never one that was 1 this expensive and yet sucked, 2 that was this poorly kept and 3 that had owners that would not take care of their business. It was sad for us to think that they would probably rent out our room to someone else who fell for the pretty pictures on the website. To the owners, Shame on you!
This Bread and Breakfast was perfect for our race weekend. The staff was incredible. Cocktail hour had fabulous food and drink selections. Yes, the hotel is older but it is not worn. The rooms are a bit musty but what do you expect from an older building on the beach. The rooms are pricey but so is everything else on the island. I will stay again.
I would NEVER stay there again. The person they sent up to help get the remote working actually said he didn't know much about remotes. Then when we tried to leave the room the DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN! The doors are old and use an actual key. No one answered at the front desk. I was beginning to panic realizing we were locked in and could not reach the front desk. The only way to get in touch with someone was by calling the lodge phone number from my cell phone. The front desk person came upstairs and after a few long minutes was able to open the door. We moved to another room but couldn't wait to leave before dawn the next morning. We were NOT OFFERED ANY CREDIT AT ALL FOR THE AGGRAVATION AND ANGST WE WERE CAUSED.
I booked the Tradewinds Suite for $588 a night. The bathroom had several areas of mold growth and was very outdated. Not what I expect in this price range. I contacted the inn but did not receive a response.
The staff is very nice and profressional. The location is awesome with magnificent views from the veranda. Our room was oceanfront. However, not the best view as you look out thru two windows. Regardless, we enjoyed the view and opened the windows at night to hear the waves. The room overall is very quaint and a decent size. The bathroom too is a decent size. However, the shower could use some cleaning. The grout/caulking and shower head were dirty in many areas. The pedestal sink was loose, caulking coming apart. The toilet too was loose. The floors also could use a good clean. Overall the lodge is very nice and we did enjoy our stay. Water was a bit too cold for us, but we did take advantage of the beach chair and umbrella included and enjoyed the sun. The happy hour and coffee availability throughout is a nice touch. The breakfast is good especially considering it is included.
The only thing better than staying at Elizabeth Pointe Lodge is being on Amelia Island! The quaint, one-of-a-kind shops in historic Fernandina Beach, and their awesome restaurants (Espana, Timoti's, Gilbert's Underground Kitchen to name a few). And of course, the beach! But the service and accommodation at EPL at the best!
