I can't say enough good things about the Grande Ocean. Spacious villa, tons of activities, kid friendly, great staff, right on the beach, beautiful grounds, plenty of stuff to do. We went for Thanksgiving and had a fabulous time, enjoying the many activities for both adults (wine tastings) and kids/families (magician, grilling with the boys). In reality the only negatives were parking (garage parking was tight and limited) and the outdoor pool tables/ping pong tables on one side of the indoor pool were unplayable due to the angle that they were positioned. Minor issues, though. Stay with confidence. We enjoyed it so much we're already planning a return for the summer. You won't be disappointed.
Super 2 bath. 2 bedroom.condo On the Beach. Lots of amenities. Pretty lights and holiday decorations around the property. Try coast restaurant down the street. Great place to eat and drink on water!!!
We LOVE this location. The amenities are top notch; the staff is informed and friendly. We come here annually in late fall / early winter, and we are never disappointed. It's both convenient and quiet. We can see the ocean from our room; this is relaxation at its best.
We came to relax before Christmas, and this was a great place to do it. The unit was spacious, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed. The grounds were beautiful and located right on the ocean. We aren’t owners, but we were happy to have a small view of the ocean. The staff is friendly and helpful, and there were fun activities for every age. It was only a short distance to wonderful restaurants or shopping. The weather turned cold, but we still had a relaxing getaway.
So up till now, the only minor issue was a leaf blower every morning starting at 9 am. Until Saturday when it started at 8:15 am. That tore it for me. I could care less about leaves on the paths when I came here for some needed peace and quiet. This is a nice resort as far as rooms go, but I will add that memory foam beds need to be flipped regularly and I should have dealt with that issue by getting it handled after the first night. My bad there. The noise of that ($^%^) leaf blower layered over my week here and not in a good way. I was told that the manager would reach out to me when I finally blew a gasket at 8:15 this morning. I am now looking forward to going home where my neighborhood has an unspoken agreement that no power anything on Saturdays until 10 am, is respected.
My wife and I were looking forward to her birthday away. The people at he front desk were nice BUT the elevators at our buikding were unmarked and sort of hidden, we had to knock on a service door for help. The parking is terrible and cramped. hard to get a big vehicle in a space. The villa itself was beautiful and the cleaning crew very nice and accomodating. If you sit on the balcomy you could sort of get a view of the ocean through the trees and over the outbuilding which was directly in front of us. You need a 3rd floor for a proper view. We continue to like Marriott properties and plan to return. The nearby restaurants are terrific.
Marriott' Grand Ocean is a fabulous resort right on the ocean. The rooms are very roomy, lots of activities and fantastic pools. Bike rentals on site is very convenient too, since you can't go to HH without riding bikes! There's no better vacation than Hilton Head Island!
We are thinking of purchasing a Marriott Time Share and are going to Las Vegas next month on a sales promotion. However, if the service there is the same as this Hilton Head timeshare property, our decision will be easy. I booked one night advance pay for my birthday at this Hilton Head property and I booked the following night at standard pay. A week before our visit, the weather for the standard pay night looked bad so I went online to try and change the standard pay night to the night before our advance pay night. However, I was unable to do so as Marriott had combined both nights as advance pay and therefore I was unable to change. I called Marriott and they fixed their error but not before I had to wait in the phone queue for 10-15 minutes. No big deal, stuff happens. Next we received an email from the property asking us to let them know which building we wanted to stay in. They sent me a list of the available buildings and asked me to check my preferences on the form. That sounded nice! They had 10 buildings so I did some research and returned the form with three buildings checked off. Oops, they forgot to tell me that those three buildings were not available to me without an upgrade. I mentioned that I was a Gold Member so would they be able to upgrade me to my preferred choice. Nope! I would have to call Marriott Corporate with that request because it is out of the control of the property. That seemed odd because we booked additional nights in Vegas, in addition to the sales promotion night,s and when I asked Marriott Corporate (when they called to set up the sales tour) if they could combine the two reservations, they told me no, I would have to call the property. When I mentioned this to the folks at Hilton Head they insisted there was nothing they could do onsite, not even make a call to Marriott Corporate on my behalf. They also made sure to let me know that I would not be able to check in until 4:00 so don't come any earlier. OK, isn't how I would try and make a real estate sale. We arrive at the property. Long wait to check in. I guess everyone heeded the warning not to check in before 4:00. I was not given a warm and fuzzy feeling and quite honestly felt like I was intruding. Out of the blue, the check in clerk said "oh, you are only staying two nights, most people stay for a week". Not, "thanks for staying over 50 nights this year as a Gold Member" and then he said "Oh. I have a note from the manager to tell you no upgrades are available". I was then given my room 8342 and told, we couldn't upgrade you but you are lucky, you are on a high floor". Wow, now I'm feeling special.. I wasn't told that Room 8342 was on the fourth floor. I wasn't even given a map of the resort. I had to ask for it. The check in guy said I could get a $25 resort credit. Nice! But I had to get in another line. OK, The lady a the desk didn't even say "Welcome to Marriott". She just said "sign this form", gave me two discount books and said that was it. OK, so check in wasn't making me feel welcome. We get in the room. Very nice!!! The message light was blinking on the phone so my wife called the indicated number and went through an Abbott & Costello routine of being transferred back and forth between the same people. Bottom Line: No message. OK, could you please stop the message light from blinking? Nope, we'll send a guy up to fix it, The guy arrives and goes through the same Abbott and Costello routine when he called the front desk. Finally, he got frustrated and said he was going down to the front desk and personally sort this out. That's the last we saw or heard of him. Over 24 hours later and we still have message lights blinking on three phones. On there own. none of these instances are a big deal. But, these people are very robotic and there definitely is not a customer service culture at this property. Too bad, as the property is nice. Also, makes it hard for me to want to scratch out a check to Marriott for a timeshare.
As our Dayton, OH based pilot touches down at the Savannah-Hilton Head International airport, he announces that the December 2, 2017 temperature is 78 degrees. We have departed DAY this am at 34 degrees. Car rental requires only a few minutes, and we drive a new Charger. Marriott’s Grand Ocean is an excellent Atlantic Ocean Front property, and we highly recommend Marriott’s Grand Ocean to families, couples and other Beachy people. We have enjoyed America's Beaches from Maine to the Keys, from Alaska to Mexico, and the many Hawaii beaches; we are always pleased with a Marriott Atlantic Ocean front Villa at Hilton Head. Marriott’s Grand Ocean is a property which we have visited several times during the past years, and we are so impressed that we shall return. The guard house ensures that only Marriott guests will be permitted entry to this property. Marriott’s Grand Ocean is an older Hilton Head property, and the lobby and business center is smaller. Check in parking is limited, but adequate. We meet four smiling young ladies, and Isis (her name, and we do not ask why) merits an excellence award. Isis is very proud to be a Marriott employee, and Isis is exactly the personality we need following the travel to Hilton Head. As we transverse Hilton Head from the west to the Coligny, we are (as always) greatly impressed with the island’s Christmas decorations. We shall have several evening drives during this holiday to enjoy Christmas at Hilton Head. Our Atlantic Ocean Front Villa is charming, and following unpacking and a shower, we enjoy the full December moon lighting the Atlantic Ocean. The evening turns overcast, and we are aware of the moon. Marriott’s Grand Ocean maintenance is excellent, and we take note of of the many employees who ensure excellence. Marriott’s Grand Ocean is a larger Marriott property in terms of buildings, pools, and interior villa space. Marriott’s Grand Ocean has been recently renovated with new furniture and decorations. Marriott offers a grand program of constant updating. In October, November, and December, we have arranged visits at Barony Beach, Surfwatfch, and Marriott’s Grand Ocean. Preference is a matter of personal taste, and an Atlantic Ocean front villa at any Marriott property is an excellent experience. Marriott’s Grand Ocean has a granite kitchen with new appliances. Marriott’s Grand Ocean would benefit from a kitchen cabinet update; however, the current cabinets fit the beach front property. Marriott’s Grand Ocean retains the large two-person hot tub in the master bedroom. We have recently noted that Barony Beach updates have included replacing this hot tub with a - may be under consideration for Marriott’s Grand Ocean. Marriott’s Grand Ocean landscaping is delightful, beach access is steps away, and the Marriott’s Grand Ocean pools are heated. We are BIG 10 fans, and had to decide between joining other fans at Hilton Head’s Mangiamo or to enjoy this sporting event in our villa. Tonight we elected the villa’s large screen television. In October and November, we watched two OSU games at Hilton Head. One must admire the athleticism of both Wisconsin and OSU. The winner may be invited to the National Championship. In our view, both Wisconsin and OSU played very well. The game was in doubt to the final seconds. Congratulations to the winner. Marriott’s Grand Ocean complaints? Well, we could not locate the corkscrew for our Merlot, and I used my TSA approved travel corkscrew. In a few minutes, I did locate the Marriott corkscrew. So complaints: None. Kudos – Many, many. Marriott’s Grand Ocean; thanks for an on-going total excellent experience.
October if the weather is good, whichit was, is a great time to visitHilton Head. It was so quiet and uncrowded....except for the leaf blowers!!! Hardly anyone was there, but there were men walking around with these very loud leaf blowers! After a few days, I could see why towns are writing laws to limit them. They really do interfere with your enjoyment of the outdoors. Our only other complaint was the same grounds people painting the pool deck, but neglected to tell us they also painted the pool edge. We lost two bathing suits to paint before we realized!! We mentioned it to the desk, but they were just sympathetic, nothing more! Except for these two problems, it was a beautiful timeshare resort great for families. We would go again for sure.
