The Grand Hotel at the Grand Canyon

3.5 out of 5.0

Location is great, only few min from Grand Canyon main visitor center. Clean rooms, and Wild West style interior. The elevator was too busy in the morning, but I didn't matter to me I took the stairs. Somehow I was able to get good rate through Orbitz. If you try to book directly it might be pricy. Overall satisfied.

We enjoyed our one night stay at the hotel. It had a nice atmosphere and the room was nicely decorated. Some people said it was expensive but I did not feel that way as it is a short distance away from Grand Canyon National Park. I liked the convenience and was glad we choose this hotel based on other choices in the area. We where surprised how little options are in that area. Including dining. The food was not so great at the restaurant at the Grand Hotel. We thought the waiters could have been been a bit more attentive. The place was not busy either. Or next meal we choose to leave the property.

Very good time, friendly staff, good restaurant, close to everything!

Rooms were nice and large. Beds very comfortable!!

During our vacation driving through southern Utah, we made a mistake and booked a south rim hotel. Orbitz referred us to The Grand Hotel since The Grand Canyon Lodge (actually on the north rim) was full - orbitz gave us $50 to use on future booking btw. We realized this hotel was on the south rim mid-drive and 3 days before our arrival. Upon calling The Grand Hotel to try to cancel our reservation they LIED and said Orbitz would not let them cancel within 7 days of the start or our stay. 7 days? That seemed extreme. Called orbitz, they said it was 100% up to the hotel. They got the hotel on a 3 way call with us and in spite of it being high summer when they could EASILY rebook the room in a matter of hours if not minutes, they refused to even consider it. The manager of the hotel was called - wouldn't even talk to us. $400 down the drain. If this is how they treated us, how can you trust how they will treat your family?

The location couldn't be any more convenient. Very happy.

Welcoming staff, superb room and decor, very comfortable. Couldn't fault anything.

First off, they have over 100 rooms and only ONE elevator and it was out of order when we checked in. They didn't even offer someone to help us carry our luggage up to the 3rd floor. The person at the front desk lead us the further and steeper staircase from our room. The room looked very dingy for "just renovated in Jan. 2016". The lamps were unplugged. In the coffee machine was some gooey substance filling up the water reservoir. We asked them to clean it up but couldn't use it after seeing so grose in there. The internet connection/speed was awful. The front desk person not only had no idea about their own network security but responded to us as if he didn't give a xxxx. We had to try hard not to ruin our vacation because of this hotel.

We were in a room next to the maintenance room so it sounded like a loud air conditioner right next to us. Too expensive.

Overall staying here was worth it. Very close to the park entrance. There is a coffee sandwich spot near which was an added bonus!! The staff at the hotel were very friendly.

Pros: well decorated, allowed my family to check in early, nice view from balcony. Fresh coffee in the morning and snacks in the afternoon. Friendly staff. Cons: the toilet takes a long time to fill up after flushing. The front door has a gap on top so it doesn't feel fully closed. The elevator broke and no explaination was provided. The pool was clean, but not heated as advertised. Overall, very good if you want to stay close to the Grand Canyon.

Great location, lobby, parking. We went in January, and the price was great. The hotel is kept up well and the amenities like a refrigerator and microwave were appreciated. The space around the bed is limited so we were a little crowded. The hotel restaurant breakfast is pricey but had more reasonable prices for lunch and supper. Though there is a blackout curtain, there is a nice window with no covering in the vaulted ceiling. Just bring eye covers if you need complete darkness.

This hotel was great to stay at. There are only a handful of hotels that are less than 5 miles from the Grand Canyon. From driving along the hotel strip the Grand Hotel looked the nicest. The hotel offers a unique experience to a traditional hotel. Very clean and comfortable room. I liked that the room did not provide little bottles of smapoo and conditioner. Instead that had refillable bottles. This was great because you don't have to worry about running out of soap. The hotel has a nice pool and hot tub.

very please with hotel not pleased with breakfast choices only buffet

Great stay. The only issue: internet access was not available.

From the moment we walked into the lobby until the moment we checked out. It was the best vacation we have had in many a year. Thanks to all the staff for their thoughtfulness and kindness. We would recommend the Grand to our family and friends anytime! We had all the comforts of home and then some. Thank you one and all. Joan and Steve O

Well kept and newly furnished rooms with all the amenities. However, uncomfortable queen mattresses with dips that ache the back (I will say I have this complaint about many but not all hotels). Excellent buffet style breakfast for only $15 that provides ample fuel for a strenuous day of hiking in the canyon. Small pool with lots of children and small gym. Overall, above average but not wow. Of the 3 major hotels nearest the south rim of the Grand Canyon, this will still probably be your best choice.

The pillows were flat and bed was in uncomfortable. No toilet paper was in the lobby bathroom. Food was good but very expensive. Breakfast bar was okay but was slim pickings when we arrived and for the price you pay should be maintained at all times.

Best place after El Tovar excellent rooms with great shower restaurant mediocre but best around

First time ever trip to Grand Canyon, wanted a base of operation for daytime site seeing. Tusayan is a small town, but a number of places to eat and a nice grocery store down the street. Very walkable. Couple of miles into the Canyon Park, but had beautiful weather and awesome views! Be sure to check out William, AZ on the way to Tusayan (50 miles or so south); cool town with a lot of restaurants, site seeing and shopping.
