I never really take the time to write these type of reviews, but the experience at Under Canvas was just too amazing to not share. We stayed in the deluxe tent for a couple of nights, and it was really well decorated, clean, and spacious. The bathroom was surprisingly nice, a real toilet and a pull-shower with working hot water! It was the perfect balance of luxury and camping! The bed was amazing - seriously comfortable and the pillows were perfect!! The wood-burning fire contraption in our room kept our tent warm. The best part of this experience had to be the staff though. Everyone went above and beyond what was expected - from making amazing food super fast, driving us back and forth to the grand canyon when our Tesla ran low on battery, and finding an outlet for us to plug our car into! We couldn't have asked for a better experience or more attentive staff. Extra shout out to Marissa and Doug who were there for us every step of the way. I am sorry to the other staff members not personally mentioned here because everyone really deserves a mention! I think the best way to visit the grand canyon is with Under Canvas. For the price point, you really get your money's worth. The other hotels nearby are just really sub-par and this place goes above and beyond what you'd expect. I will definitely be staying here again!!
My girlfriends and I just got back from staying here and we never wanted to leave! The grounds are absolutely gorgeous with so much attention to detail and thoughtful touches everywhere. The beds were extremely warm and comfortable, even with temps dipping down into the 30s. The "shared" bathrooms are all individual private cabanas that are toasty warm, clean, and posh. The food at the restaurant on grounds blew us away. The other night we grilled out on their very swanky Weber grills. The staff was extremely friendly, personable, and accommodating. We LOVED Under Canvas so much we vow to visit them all!
The staff at Under Canvas Grand Canyon is phenomenal! All extremely helpful and quick to accommodate. I really enjoyed their fun and energetic personalities and attitudes! Head chef Lamar was awesome at accommodating my friend’s many food allergies and his dishes are 5-star in my opinion. Morgan and Mike were so great and quick about helping us city girls with our smoky fire in our tent! The beds were plush and comfy and the bathrooms clean and appealing with lots of fluffy white towels. I will definitely be recommending Under Canvas to my friends and family and looking for an opportunity for another stay!
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a Stargazer tent and had an awesome time! The tent was amazing and we loved being able to look at the stars at night. The staff were really friendly, and spent a good deal of time helping us plan out a day of hiking. We enjoyed spending time in the main reception tent and making s'mores each night (which was a great way to get to know our fellow campers). We were also pleasantly surprised with how good the food was for breakfast and dinner. This was so close to being a 5 star trip, however, my one big complaint was that both on the website at the time we booked and on our trip confirmation it said that there was a complimentary breakfast included. Turns out there isn't - breakfast is an additional charge, which we didn't find out until check-in (which I did point out to the young lady checking us that our confirmation said this was included...and was basically told we weren't the first with this issue, and that breakfast is an additional charge). Obviously not a deal breaker for us, but it would have be nice to have been notified beforehand, or offered a comped meal or something. Overall, though, we had a really great time and will likely check out other Under Canvas camps in the future.
Overall impression: Under Canvas is prioritizing social media branding and visual aesthetics over infrastructure and genuine hospitality. See below. We stayed at Under Canvas Grand Canyon the weekend of April 26, 2019. When we arrived, the site was not fully constructed and there were crews and equipment everywhere. We sincerely wondered if we had just entered a Fyre Festival scenario. This first impression certainly influenced our overall opinion of the site and experience. Considering the cost to stay with Under Canvas, we reasonably expected the site to be dialed in, both functionally and aesthetically. Based on our experience (which, to be fair, was only two nights), we offer Under Canvas a range of suggestions to improve the stay of future guests who are paying full price: 1) ensure the "critical" infrastructure is in place - toilets working (all public toilets were clogged the second morning of our stay), kitchen electrical equipment working (it failed the second morning of our stay), 2) pay for an ad-free music streaming service vs the free version, 3) provide flatware that isn't disposable, 4) equip each tent with water bottles or at least a vessel which can be filled with water at the public tent, 4) ensure coffee is actually available to customers 24/7 (especially between the hours of 6-10am, which was problematic both mornings our stay), 5) let your customers know IN ADVANCE that you don't yet have a liquor license, 6) when booking activities/adventures/excursions for your customers, disclose that you're outsourcing the activity to another company, and let them know how you vetted/decided upon the company you're booking, 7) consider the fact that the site is very remote and that there are no activities within walking distance - use this as a business opportunity by having under canvas experts onsite at check-in to work with customers on building an itinerary, 8) offer customers shuttle service to/from the Grand Canyon at least once per day (even if you charge a fee for this service), 9) ensure that reliable wifi is available to Under Canvas staff so that they can complete check in/check out and retail transactions - we understand that you're going for an off-the-grid experience, but your staff needs connectivity to ensure paying customers aren't left standing in lines, and finally 10) PLEASE never again fly a drone over the campsite at 6:30 a.m., or any other time really…unless the Instagram fodder is actually more important to you than the customer experience…which it very well may be.
This place is AMAZING!! Not only are the tents and the campground in general super cool, but the staff has the best customer service I have ever experienced! You get to have the outdoors experience but get to sleep in a comfy bed with a fireplace. Absolute perfection! I can’t wait to come back! Thank you Under Canvas for making my bday an extra special one!
The accommodations were simply amazing! Friendly staff at check in, tour of the facility and also of our tent, we had the deluxe with private bathroom, and nighttime fire pit as well as reception tent. The wood stove kept us warm, temps at night in the 40’s. Honestly my spouse was quite nervous about the stay but after the 1st night she was hooked. The quality of the site, tents, furnishings... all of it top shelf. I travel for business 50% of my life so having this alternative to another hotel room was a very welcome relief. 30 minutes and you are in the Park and lots of dining options. Our last night we bought a bottle of red wine, cheese, salami and prosciutto and some wonderful crackers at a local market and enjoyed a relaxing eveningin the reception tent after hiking all day. Lamar and Siena were the evening reception hosts and we spent time with them sharing our stories of Yellowstone where they also work for Under Canvas. We will definitely be staying at another Under Canvas location on our next trip. Well done team!
Me and three friends are doing a roadtrip across USA and we were trying to decide on whether to stay in Grand Canyon or not. We came across Under Canvas and we knew that we had to stay there. The staff were very friendly and was in constant communication with us regarding any updates. They also happily answered any questions and helped us with anything we needed on site. When we arrived, it was already dark, and to say that we were blown away, is an understatement. I dont think there are words enough to describe this place. We drove in and you can see the tents and the pathways all lit up. We parked our car, stepped out of the vehicle and just couldnt believe the amount of stars that we could see. The ambiance of the place, the serenity of it, is nothing that I have ever experienced before. There is no electricity (except for running generators), and hardly any reception. This could be a problem for some people, but this is absolutely perfect for anyone that wants to disconnect from the outside world. This experience has been absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it for everyone to experience.
My husband and I stayed at Under Canvas Grand Canyon the other night for one night. Huge caveat- they only opened this location 2 weeks ago so they are still working the kinks out. I’m sure if I stayed there later on, I’d give it a 5 star rating. The lobby tent is amazing with tables for eating as well as couches for lounging. It has coffee/tea and water and where you order food from. There’s also and outside sitting area. Excellent decor and very welcoming. Our tent was just as expected and I have to say I slept like a baby after a long day of hiking. The bed was super comfortable and the blankets were nice and warm. We stayed in the safari tent. We used the wood stove for a bit early in the morning when it was cold and it warmed up the tent very nicely. The bathhouse was a short walk away - less than one minute. It was nice to have a flushing toilet and a running shower (again after hiking). The shower has a pull handle which I actually loved since it conserves water! They provide towels, shampoo and body wash. Now to my only two complaints- they normally drive you and your luggage to your tent, however, the golf cart that they were using could suddenly only drive in reverse. It was dark out so we had to drag our luggage along the stone/dirt path down to our tent. Not a huge complaint but an annoyance especially since it was late and I was admittedly tired. Second annoyance was that you can order food the night before to pick up in the morning to bring on your hike. We ordered the night before, paid, were told it would be ready at 7 am but - alas - it was not there in the morning and no one was there to make it. It was very inconvenient to try and find a picnic lunch we could pick up before our hike into the Grand Canyon. The management was responsive and left a message later that day that we would be refunded plus more due to the inconvenience which I really appreciated. However, it would have been much easier to just grab and go as planned. Staff was overall very friendly and location is really convenient for accessing the Grand Canyon. It was about a 30 minute drive to the South Rim. Overall very good experience:)
Yöpyminen teltassa hyvin kylmässä yössä oli elämys! Kahden untuvapeiton alla oli kuitenkin ihanan lämmintä. Eli nukkumisolosuhteet hyvät; WC ja suihkutilat eivät yllä samalle tasolle. Henkilökunta oli nuorta ja innostunutta.
