If you are able to get reservations at any of the lodges along the Grand Canyon, do it! The rooms had been updated. The bathrooms are nice with a warming light for those cold mornings. The rooms arenât huge but they are big enough. Highly recommend!
We had two wonderful nights at the Thunderbird Lodge and highly recommend it. The parking can be a challenge, but the bellman will help you find a spot along with taking care of your bags. You check in at the Bright angel lodge next door and that is where the restaurant is located. You can also eat at the wonderful El Tovar which is close by. We woke up the next morning to 6 deer walking right outside our window. All in all a great option right on the canyon rim.
We stayed here one night. Our first room had no heat. We notified the front desk, which is in a different hotel and they sent maintanence up. It could not be fixed so we were moved to another room. The rooms are old and dated with baseboard heating. There is no counter space in the bathroom and the carpet looked like it was not vaccumed from the last occupants. The WiFi is spotty at best. Most of the time we had no service Will not stay here again
Decent room, seemed to be remodeled. Lots of USB plug-in's. Comfortable bed with nice clean white linens. Heat worked well. Refrigerator, coffee maker, safe, hair dryer in room. Bathroom fairly clean, but hair in shower and around baseboards. Desk was dirty with crumbs, etc... Environmentally friendly bottle pumps with soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Rooms not sound proof - could hear talking next door. This room was on second floor overlooking lower roof - with partial canyon view - view was spectacular! Worth it and would stay here again. Staff at checkin and checkout, especially Mary Jane, was exceptional.
We stayed for one night and we wish we would have planned on staying for two. Plan ahead and book all national park lodging ahead of time (like 3-6 months ahead!) We were right at the rim, which was extrememly convenient. Our room was not fancy, but it was clean and the beds were comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!
We had a great trip to the Grand Canyon. We stayed 1 night and the room was clean and comfortable. It was convenient to be in the village. I had a broke ankle from earlier hiking and would have appreciated more accessibility. Parking is limited.
Lots of reviews talk about this lodge looking like a prison barracks ... not untrue from the outside and the hallways are minimalist, but I found the room to be spacious, well appointed, modern and comfy.
Our one night stay at Thunderbird Lodge was very pleasant. Room was average size, bed was comfortable and bathroom was clean. It was cool the night we were there, so I can not speak to the A/C issues that other reviewers mention. There is a Keurig in the room, so you don't have to walk to the lodge for morning coffee. We faced the Rim which was a plus and I would definitely request this when booking. Wi-fi within all of the properties is spotty at best. No, this is not a luxury property, but you are not at the Grand Canyon for a resort experience. Parking can be tricky depending on what time of day you arrive, so you may have to drop your bags, park and then walk a bit. Staying inside of the park and close to the shuttle is definitely worth it!
Staying on site with a view of the canyon (2nd floor - partial canyon view room) made our trip. Rooms were nice and employees were very friendly. Only odd thing about room is height of shower head (which is low). Can’t beat staying steps away from the Grand Canyon which made sunrise and sunset very accessible as well as daytime exploring. I would recommend staying here.
After a long day travelling it was just perfect. Fantastic soft bed. So comfy. Hot shower. Room was so clean and welcoming. Plus we had a free Navajo dancing that night. Highly recommended this place . Great parking. Friendly staff. Just passed the hotel is the scenic drive around white house. This is worth doing. It is very beautiful.
