Stayed here for 5 days for a family vacation . Pros : - walking distance to Legoland. (priceless) - clean and quiet facility - valet parking ( fast and courteous) - nice pool for adults. - The Sheraton has a great pool for kids , and we had access to that pool as well. Cons: - Local pool is not good for young children - no restaurants out of the hotel. Very isolated from Center ( city ). -No meals included. ( had Breakfast a Couple of times and it was very expensive ) -made an appointment ( in person ) for waxing at the spa, got a phone call to cancelled my appt 5 minutes before the appointment time . ( pretty disappointed by their service and lack of professionalism ) I later went in the spa again to buy something and they insisted .... are you keeping your appt or cancelling ? Showing No desired to make up for their mistake . I think ..( or at least felt that way )I was racially profiled. Recommendation: - order from Applebee’s or a similar restaurant and Pick up your food . Is half the price you would pay at the hotel. -Get your water at the local Walmart. - get on your car and visit the downtown and enjoy local food .
The grounds and rooms are beautiful! I was so pleased when I entered my room. Wonderful bed, nice linens, balcony, large and spacious. The only problem was it was one of the noisiest hotels I’ve stayed in. The floors are wood and I could hear my neighbors above me and all around me. It sounded like elephants moving furniture above me and people throwing things around beside me. The hall was noisy and I was hearing doors closing loudly. You could hear voices and footsteps. Lots of noise coming from the pool late into the night also. Most higher end hotels are quite soundproof and comfortable so I was unpleasantly surprised by the level of noise. Kind of like living in a poorly constructed apartment building. Lots of kids on site due to its proximity to LEGO land. As a business traveler I sadly won’t be staying here again. I had a much better experience at the Hilton Cape Rey.
I read some bad reviews and had some mixed feelings about staying here to attend a weekend conference. But since arriving here, my family and I love this place. Large clean rooms, huge comfortable beds, balcony, close to the beach. Lovely. Exceeded all my expectations. Well maintained rooms, clean.
Took the family to Legoland and decided to stay at the Westin Carlsbad for two nights, since I read they have a private entrance into Legoland (that was awesome, by the way). Had several "hick ups" during our stay; however, I ranked this property as "very good" because the two front desk managers (Julie and Robert) I spoke with were extremely generous and went out of their way to make it right. Also, one other outstanding employee we came across is Korey (I hope I'm spelling her name correctly). She worked in the business class breakfast room and she was amazing! She was so kind and accommodating to the needs of my family. We will never forget her hospitality. Loved the location, but in the future, I will likely try to stay at the Sheraton Hotel next door (their sister property) just to compare the two properties.
I read some reviews and was a little unsure how this property would be. I called to find out some information on rooms. Found out that the Grandview building is new. I requested a room on a high floor of the building. Glad I did, it was outstanding. First, all of the Grandview rooms orient toward the coast. The common corridor runs along the non-coastal side of the building. I was on the 4th floor and had an excellent view of the coast and water off in the distance. I’d guess that the third floor also has good views. Not sure about lower floors. There is a north and south tower. The north tower orients towards the pool and hotel. Looks like you could see the action there. I was in the south tower and looked toward Lego Land. It was quieter although some Lego noise, it started later in the morning and ended early enough. It was never a bother. I’d say for sure that the South tower is the quieter area. I had a king room — it was huge and nice decorated and outfitted. Wonderful bathroom. Second, the staff was very friendly and customer centric. On check in, I was offered a room that was immediately available but also given the option of a room that met my requests. When I chose the later, I was offered to store my luggage and directed to a spot I could change for the beach. The bell staff and bar staff were also very accommodating. Far as I am concerned this is a great choice to stay in Carlsbad. Easy access to the interstate as well as the Pacific Coast Highway yet far enough away to feel secluded and not a pavement landscaped hotel.
My family and I are vacationing in southern California and this is our first visit to the resort. I do believe it was recently renovated. Once past the lobby, you walk out to the Palm Court which has comfortable patio furniture surrounding a few tables each containing a firepit of sorts. It's especially nice at night with a beverage in hand. Nice size pool follows although we spent most of the time at the Sheraton pool next door since it had one water slide which my 8yr old loved. The rooms are of contemporary decor and very clean and I can't say enough of the comfortable beds. The staff is very friendly. Food is expensive and you don't get much for the money so we always had meals offsite. I found there isn't much going on in Carlsbad other than the beaches and you almost feel isolated. Overall, this is a very nice property but if you're looking to do some activities, your better off staying closer to San Diego.
This Westin was an adequate hotel. I am judging it against the Westin standard, not all hotels. Definitely a 5 star but I’ve noticed that the larger Westin’s (especially the ones with adjoining vacation clubs) have become much more impersonal. The beds were fantastic and we actually had a ground floor room with 2 king beds-which I haven’t seen often. Housekeeping did a great job. Both valet and self parking at $18 per day and the resort fee is $20. I guess resort fees are becoming quite standard but in this case really only covered the pool. Also, there seemed to be ample parking between the Westin and attached Sheraton. Resort. There was a ping pong table outdoors that looked fun but the lobby was out of ping pong balls-with no explanation.
I have stayed here before the remold when it was a Sheraton. So when I book this expensive hotel I was expecting a lot more since they change to a Westin and the increase in price. I would recommend you stay at the new Sheraton right next door they offer so much more nicer pool music. We arrived early at around 12:15pm. I knew we were early. But I did not expect the welcome I received . I was shocked at how I was treated. Im a titanium rewards member. I had to ask for a upgrade. which seem to annoy the girl who was checking me in. She did find me a upgrade. The room was not ready which I understood since I was early and check in is at 4pm. I was told they would call me. They never did so at 4 I went to the front desk and My room was ready hmm. I really did not feel welcome at all from the minute I stepped up to the counter. I went to bell man to have them hold my bags till my room was ready. Then I went back to the front desk to ask about the pool and restaurant. She was not very accommodating . Ask ask how I could charge to my room she said since I did not have a room I would not be able to charge anything . Yet she had already taken my credit card. They way I was treated just left a uncomfortable feeling. I was really sorry I was staying here. Wished I had picked a a place where I would feel more welcome and not uncomfortable from the start. That being said the room was large and new. Pool was mediocre and boring no music. I found out later in the evening that we were allowed to use the Sheraton pool as well. Only found that out when we took a walk down to check out that hotel. I hate leaving a bad review But service means a lot to me when you pay so much and I want to be treated nice.
This is the perfect hotel for visiting Legoland! The Westin used to be the Sheraton then they renamed it to the Westin when they built a new adjoining hotel and named that the Sheraton. The new Sheraton is super modern and very family friendly with a pool that has a waterslide, s’mores in the afternoon and the family friendly upscale 7-Mile kitchen restaurant. The Westin seems a bit fancier which is probably why they chose it for the higher end Marriott brand. I have 2 favorite things about the Westin Carlsbad: 1) They have rooms with 2 King beds. Not Queens, but 2 actual King beds which is great for families since 2 kids can easily share a bed and the adults still get a King bed too. 2) You get an exclusive private entrance to the top of Legoland. Check out the photos I uploaded! My best tip is to park in the parking lot closest to the Legoland entrance then you have less than a 5 minute walk to access Legoland. All you have to do is bring your hotel room key for proof you’re a hotel guest. You can get in right away if you bought your Legoland tickets ahead of time or you can buy your tickets right there at this private entrance. The entrance drops you off at the top of Legoland by the Hideaways playground & the Lego City Deep Sea Adventure tide (see the red arrow I circled & starred in purple pen on the Legoland map I also uploaded in my photos). We have entered Legoland from the normal main entrance many times and this alternative private entrance for Westin & Sheraton (Hilton vacation club too) hotel guests is a way shorter walk and also way less time in line. When we went twice both times there were zero people ahead of us in line. You can exit this way too as this entrance stays open 30 minutes after Legoland closes. You can also get a hand stamp for easy re-entry if you go back to your hotel or car then want to return to Legoland.
My family and I came to Carlsbad, to visit the Caverns! 🤭🤭. When we arrived, we realized we were in the wrong state! Candace, turn our mistake into an amazing experience that allowed us to discover the amazing assets of your hotel as well as made us feel like we were family versus just a guest! Ty Candace for turning our trip to Cali into a fantastic week of memories that will be etched in our heads for the rest of our lives!
