Stayed here Sunday through Saturday and I would do it again. The staff are extremely nice and helpful.the property is definitely well maintained and kept clean. The pool is also kept clean there is a kids side and an adult side but you can take your kids on either. Also a smoking side and non smoking by the pool. The Food options were nice as well, I liked the Chinese restaurant probably the most. The beach isn’t far away, less than a 10 minuet walk and the beach club has good food as well. We didn’t stay at the beach because there were just so many people. The chair are packed together and it was just overwhelming. But honestly we loved the pool. The rooms could use a bit of updating but were clean and well maintained. Starbucks is also less than a 5 minuet walk away.

This hotel is gorgeous. It has a classic, grand Mexican style and all the comforts you would expect from an all inclusive resort. The entertainment changes things up every night and range from modern themes to classic cultural displays. The activities available at this place would please people of all age groups as well. One day there was bingo and water aerobics, and the next there was a bubble party with a belly flop contest. The food and alcohol are constantly available and wonderful. The staff is friendly. While other places I have been to have added extra charges for the safe, mini bar, and wifi, this location does not add nightly fees for their use. We were very happy here. We also loved the pools and the easy access to the beach!

This hotel is in serious need of a facelift. It’s almost uncomfortable

The hotel looked worned out so some face lift will be a good idea. Staff is hospitable and accommodating, plenty of activities on the beach, just keep in mind that there is a 5-10 min walk to the beach. Also, you won’t have an access to all Riu’s beaches and pools- we were told otherwise at the reception. Overall we had a great time and I would recommend this hotel, but most likely won’t return there...

The hotel was great, the only complaint would be how far to walk to get coffee in the morning. Should have coffee closer to the rooms in the morning. Otherwise great, the also don't have servers serving drinks, but I did not have a problem with this because it was fine to get up and get my own drink.

We had stayed a RIU Palace before so this was a letdown. You don't get 24 hour room service or even have a coffee machine in the room, i want my coffee before leaving the room. Brach access is 5 min walking distance bit hotel offers transportation. You don't have a waiter or waitress that can service you once you have your chairs at the beach, you have to go ger your own at the bar, I guess we got spoil the first stay at Palace. Night shows were really mediocre and I feel that entertainers did not bother to be couteous or talk to us because we have a child. I felt I little diacriminated.

You have to walk about 10-15 minutes to reach the beach. There is a small golf car that will pass by every 15 minutes but it gets full right away and we never had the chance to ride it. There is another Riu hotel near the beach and they will not allow you to change your towels even though they are the SAME color. This was very disappointing. Overall food was very good and the entertainment was very good too. The rooms needs some updating, they are super humid and damp. Water was dripping from the walls in the hallways.

Great entertainment staff knows how to have fun! Waitors at the main restaurant were very attentive and knew what drinks we wanted. Rooms were ok, very humid our clothes were always damp and water from shower was yellow the first couple nights. But overall we had a great time and would go back!

We had a great time at this hotel. The pools are great, the staff are all so helpful and friendly, and the food is INCREDIBLE. Plus, it's just a quick walk on a private path to the beach. Definitely a great option if you're looking to save a little money amongst the RIU hotel options!

After vacationing with my family at the RIU Tequila last year I decided to return this year for a girls trip with a friend. It was GREAT! We didn't mind the walk to the beach/pool by the beach. We thought the staff at the Tequila was much friendlier that the staff at the other hotels, and same about the food/buffet. Highly recommend, and plan to return.

Nice... I don't like to write reviews. It not any of your business how long my review is.

Not quite the service of some other hotels, but it would explain the price difference. Overall clean and staff were friendly. Food was average.

Grounds were old and not maintained, food was average, long walk across the street to the beach, but staff was very nice

We really enjoyed this hotel. Loved the style of the hotel! Some drinks were diet (I hate fake sweeteners) but if I went to different bars I would get same drink but non-diet drinks.

Great place to stay Hotel staff wonderful Will go back

I'm very surprised by how well this resort has been reviewed and wonder if the strong reviews are from customers that have not stayed at an all inclusive before. The staff was very unfriendly, when staying at all inclusive resorts in the past I felt catered to. At the Riu Tequila, most of the staff made me feel like I was putting them out by simply ordering a drink or checking out towels. Overall, the food was not good, and everything we found was buffet, usually there are at least a few restaurants that allow you to order food. Maybe there was a sit down option we just didn't discover, the amount of info you are given is very minimal, and asking questions at the front desk isn't a great option, because again they act as though they are annoyed by your presence. You are allowed to go to a few other nearby Riu resorts to eat, but it's the same food, and you can only dine at the Tequila options for dinner. The beach was very nice and we were always able to quickly get a cart ride there. The beds were very uncomfortable with flat pillows and uncomfortable bedding. I am not a picky traveler, but will not stay here again, knowing that this is not at all what you should get in an all inclusive option in the Playa or Cancun area. Look elsewhere!

This hotel is fantastic! It is not a luxurious hotel, but if you are looking for great food, good laughs, amazing shows and a staff that makes it feel like home - then this is the hotel for you. The décor is the old Mexican décor and the rooms are not that great, but why do you want to be in your room when the weather is amazing, many fun things to do and amazing people to meet around the hotel?! This hotel is not on the beach but a short walk away, trust me, the walk is short and beautiful. Or if you are feeling lazy there is a cart that will take you back and forth. The shows at night are hands down the best in Playa del Carmen, people come from neighboring hotels to see these shows. There are always a lot of returning guests at this hotel, which speaks volume to this hotel.

Exelent every thing, food, location, rooms, loby, real frendly staf.

This is our third trip to this hotel. checkin was smooth. Staff are friendly. Pools are nice. Beach is a 10 minute walk away by nice with plenty of chairs. Drinks are easy to get and bartenders prepare them well. Hotel room are spacey and clean with plenty of AC. Only problem was one bed foot bas broken but it was an easy fix. The buffets are pretty good. However, the Asian and steak resteraurants are very good. The ribeye at the steak resteraurant was the best I have had in a while. Show are entertaining at night. Overall a great trip with the kids.

Great resort with lots of Mexican character. But the resort needs to be renovated without losing the same character but better brand new rooms.
