My girlfriend and I stayed at the Grand Velas for a week...last week. The flights into and out of Cancun are fast and cheap, the immigration is easy, customs is streamlined, the journey was a no-brainer. The 60-minute drive to the hotel was unintuitive, cumbersome, and a little expensive at USD55. On our way home we canceled the shuttle and took a private taxi for USD40 and didn't have to share it with other people - 40-minutes door-to-door, no stops. Grand Class rooms are amazing (they gave us a free upgrade). In-room giant jacuzzi, plunge pool, veranda overlooking the ocean, walk-in closet, huge shower / sink / bathroom. Service / staff were super-friendly, hospitable, attentive, and very intuitive. The pools are amazing. The beach is incredible. The ocean has rocks in it. Not quite sure if that's a deal-breaker. The meals were impeccable - each one better than the next. Eight restaurants. Piaf and Frida are the best - Lucca - a close third. ALWAYS top-shelf liquor. Don Julio Anejo, Herradura Anejo, Tres Generaciones Anejo - for those who like tequila. Weather was excellent every single day. The gym was clean, quiet, and basically brand-new. Not a single complaint except maybe the rocks in the ocean. The lovely pools more than make up for it and you can always walk down the beach a bit to a sandy spot.
Incredible customer service. We stayed in the Zen Spa building, which is not oceanfront. The shuttle service is ALWAYS available within seconds and it only takes about 2 minutes to get to the Ambassador or Grand Class (Oceanfront) section of the resort. A spa treatment is a must! Show up an hour early for the hydrotherapy experience. It was incredible! This vacation was more than we would normally spend, but worth every penny!

Out of our five trips to Cancun Playa de Carmen area - this is by far the one with the best memories. Key points: 1) Food - excellent quality. Great choice on buffet and great dining experience a la cart. 2) Heated pool - we arrived early in December when ocean was still too cold for the baby. The warm pool was the only place he wanted to spend his time in anyway. In some of our prior visit water in the pools was too cold even for us adults. 3) Room was very spacious and a great view on a rising sun over the ocean All in all great experience with great aftertaste.
The only critique is I would say to take off the website that they are located downtown. They need to be clear that you can't walk downtown that you have to take a cab on the highway and it's about a 10-15 min drive. I booked here based on that. I would also recommend to extend the family beach part over a little further because the beach and ocean on the "family" side is so rocky we could even walk in there with our 22 month old. The adult only side of the beach is vast, it just seems like the Larger area would cater to the families.
The food for an all-inclusive resort was very good, with lots of restaurant choices. The breakfast & lunch buffets were very high quality.

This was our second time at this resort and we loved it even more than the first time. A few new improvements: 1. they added a bar/lunch buffet on the beach (so you don't have to go to the pool for drinks) 2. they now have entertainment during the day (there is a different 40 minute show on the beach every day and some games... the entertainment is just enough so that it doesn't get annoying and you can't relax) 3. They now have a beautiful lounge/bar (Koi) where you can have drinks at night 4.They come around the pool and beach and offer great foot massages ($18). The food at this resort is excellent in every restaurant! We didn't have any trouble getting reservations at any of them. They accommodate all different allergies/diets also (gluten-free, vegetarian). The service is great! The spa is amazing! We loved it so much we went twice in one week (Try the Mayan Grand Velas Massage. It's a little pricey, but definitely worth it). The staff at the resort is friendly and helpful. The resort is in a great location and is about a 10 minute cab ride to the Playa Del Carmen town. Our only complaint is that the ocean has a lot of seaweed, however there are some clear patches you can swim in. We love Grand Velas! Looking forward to our third time there!

It was raining the entire trip and still awsome stay! The staff arrange some areas so you can be eathier relaxing at the spa, having a great time with the kids at the kids And teens clubs or having a drink in A restaurant or bar! The spa isn't cheap but the greatest experience ever! The all inclusive program is perfect! Food, drinks, even the minibar! Love This place! You are going to love it to!!!
