Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront3.0 out of 5.0

Stayed at the Wyndham Hotel in Virginia Beach for a New Years evening event. Checked in the room and everything appeared fine as the room was neat and clean. Got dressed and left some of my family in the room and went to the New Years function downstairs. The bartenders and drinks were fine as usual. The dinner was something different. Everything came out cold, not tepid, not luke warm...cold!. Everyone's plate (with a steak on it) at my table came out like it had been sitting somewhere in room with no heat and for some time. Most people that night near us did not finish their food. For the large sum of money that was paid by all, I don't know how they could have screwed the food service up for so many people. Now the cold did stop there. My wife and many other women left to get coats to sit in the dinner/ dance hall room. Later when we returned to our room the first time, one part of the room was cold and had no heat (3 room suite). We called for someone to come and fix it and no had come by the time we came back. After calling again, they brought a portable heater that did not work and the extra blankets we requested. The bright shiny spot was the Slapstick Band. After this experience they need to upgrade shows to a place that knows how to entertain and take care of people. After gong there for four years in a row, we wont be going back next New Years. Oh, one final thing; we usually let the kids swim the next day but the pool and hot tub were nasty and looked like they had not been filtered or cleaned...gross.
We loved our ocean view room. It was clean and roomy. The dinner at the party was cold and lacked flavor. Service was slow. The band played to 3 hours in stead of 4 as stated in the itinerary. Late at night there was a fight and it took security at least two phone calls to do something about it.
The New Year's Eve package was an excellent deal and a great way to bring in the new year. Everything (the room, dinner, entertainment, room service) was awesome. I highly recommend bringing in the new year with the Wyndham VB Oceanfront
We went to this resort for a New Year's Eve celebration. This was a special event with the room, dinner, and a live band included. The ONLY good things about the evening was the open bar, the dessert, and the band. The entire rest of the evening was awful. Let's start with the heating system (or should I say, total lack thereof). The only warm place in the whole hotel was our room. Everywhere else was very cold. It was so cold that my wife had to wear gloves and her winter coat for the entire evening. The only time she didn't have her coat on was during dancing. I estimate the venue temperature was around 50 degrees. Consequently, ALL of the four course dinner was cold. There was not enough staff to handle the 500 or so guests, so serving dinner was very stretched out causing the food to get cold. The dance floor was half the size needed for such a large crowd. Since we are quite good dancers, we had to resort to dancing off the dance floor to secure enough room for movement. As for the room, it was only adequate--nothing special. Of course, having to pick up an enormous dead roach off the carpet in our room certainly didn't help things. And the heating system in the room was very loud, cycling on and off all night made it difficult to sleep. Even though we live in the Virginia Beach area, we've never stayed at one of the area resort properties. We've always heard they are very poor. I can say this "resort" (if you can really call it that) lived up to that standard. They don't call Virginia Beach the "Redneck Riviera" for nothing. And this property certainly fit the stereotype. We're accustomed to staying at some very nice resorts and we knew going in to this event this resort might not live up to our higher standards. But we had hope since this was a Wyndham property. Alas, we can say this resort was no where near what can be expected of Wyndham. It was built in 1985 and hasn't been touched since. We'll never understand why people flock to Virginia Beach by the thousands during the summer, overpaying for stays in terrible resorts, when there are so many other places to go that are much nicer. I can say without reservation this was the worst resort we've every stayed in. We'll never go back to this resort and most likely any other in Virginia Beach.
Hotel was great; the NYE dinner was served COLD, the ballroom was also cold. We had to sit with costs over the shoulders
Nice property with many amenities but it is dated hotel and suffers from extensive deferred maintenance. Common areas and exterior are in the worse condition. Although the food quality was very good our food was cold and it was this way for many people. We have also eaten in the restaurant before and the food was unacceptable. It is a poor grade of food and poorly prepared. The presentation is not good either. This has been consistent over the past couple of years and we have stopped eating at the hotel restaurant
We made this reservation late the week of December 26 for December 29 thru 31st check out. Despite the weather being bitter cold, we arrived with our pets - keep in mind there is a $25 fee per pet, per night, but the 2 queen bed size room was perfect, with a minifrigerator and superior view. It is RIGHT on the beach, they have pet waste bags and cans right outside and you can walk your pet on the beach in the wintertime. They also have a great restaurant downstairs with a bar. I always bring our dog beds, PLUS our own 2 queen size top sheets to put on the beds in case our dogs decide to jump on the beds. We did not need to have the room serviced but did ask for extra towels and soaps which they provided. The heat was turned on in the room at 65 when we arrived which did made it warm enough. We were able to sleep with no heat, as that is our preference. The location is super because it is in a quieter location of the beach. We will definitely return again, the view was incredible and we got great sleep here both nights, no noise at all.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Room clean and well supplied. Room had great view of the beach. The restaurant had good service but menu was limited. Would stay here on another trip. Parking no problem. Also offered covered parking if you wished. Two swimming pools. One inside and one outside. Hot tub and towels supplied.
Love staying at this hotel, esp. the oceanfront rooms. Nice pool and hot tub. The hotel restaurant has a beautiful room overlooking the ocean however, the dinner menu is somewhat short and could be improved-lack of choice, imagination. Breakfast is great. Loved the she-crab soup they used to have at dinner. Dinner is a 7. Breakfast is a 9.5. Rooms are a 10.
We have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel many times over the years. Have always found our room clean and with no real issues. They tend to our requests of extra pillow, towels, etc with fast friendly service. Very friendly staff who try to answer and take care of any questions or concerns you have. Look forward to being back there Labor Day weekend!
