My family and I had been planning my mother's 75th birthday party since last year at the Marriott in Newport News. The hospitality group was fantastic!!! We started out with Brianna who knows her stuff, but she got married and moved to South Carolina. Then came Cherrelle, who had some big shoes to fill. Cherrelle worked with my brother and I, to every last detail that we wanted. Everything from the table set up, food selection, and attention to detail. I also would like to thank Matthew and his team for the food preparations. Awesome job! And of course D.J. Am'biSH(e)n was great as well. If your every planning an event this is the place to have it.
1) Kerry in concierge lounge is most personable & courteous. Would be fantastic if concierge lounge opens 7 days/week like Hilton does. 2) Vivian in restaurant was good server. 3) Experienced daily occurrences of room key deactivating, even when NOT near cell. 4) Housekeeping was very slow about cleaning room; always after 4 or 5. 5) Doesn't have shuttle, not even to take guests within 3-5 radius of hotel. 6) can only accessible parking garage through conference center; otherwise must exit through hotel lobby
The staff at breakfast-time was great. From Amanda at the front desk who was helpful, to Toya the restaurant hostess who seemed to be running the whole breakfast, and Malik The Diplomatic -- who graciously handled a bossy and rude guest who wanted free items from the restaurant. The omelet was great. But, the morning staff was so much better as to deserve to be lauded first. When I come back to Newport News, I certainly hope to meet each one of them (and the omelet) again!
We visited the restaurant inside of the hotel. Vivian was our server. She was great! She made our dining experience joyful. I am a vegan so I was picky and asking many tedious questions in reference to the menu. Vivian was patient, knowledgeable and courteous. Thank you Vivian for your awesome service.
This hotel was recommended by local family & so far we have been very pleased. Nice, clean, comfortable rooms located in a safe, vibrant part of Newport News near many restaurants and a movie theater. Would stay here again.
Our stay began with plenty of parking and a nice lobby to walk into. The rooms were clean and smelled fresh. We stayed on the "fountain side" which provided a nice view. The breakfast was delicious. There are other restaurants and some shopping within walking distance and the walk around the fountain was a nice way to exercise. No complaints at all!
There are breaking points when travelling regularly for work and today I reached one of those points. Why do Tidewater area hotels make getting from the car into the hotel so difficult? Why is the valet parking closer than parking for self park guests? Why do I have to contend with young attitude when they can see I have reached my breaking point? Today I cancelled a reservation at the front desk because they asked me to move my car to the other end of the garage and beyond empty spaces and when I protested I got attitude. It was the attitude that broke me. One day I will find a hotel in Tidewater that is not falling apart where I can easily get my bags from the car to the door and the front desk has less attitude than my teenagers. This hotel is not it.
From beginning to end, my 4 night stay at this hotel was easy going! Service was always efficient and with a smile. My room was comfortable and serviced when I requested. Ice available on the floor, a functioning gym and all the amenities you could ask for, all surrounded by an attractive concourse and impressive fountain outside the hall. A short drive to the Newport airport, this was a great place to stay. Recommend the Virginia Benedict-yum!
We truly enjoyed our stay at this Marriott and found the close proximity to fun restaurants around the city center complex including the movie theatre, as well as being central to many museums and historical sites in the area. I would definitely stay there again in spite of the pool being out of order- everything else made up for it and being December I cant complain. One manager named Bruno P. was so delightful and friendly I have to give him a shout out for being an asset to this organization.
I stayed here for the weekend for Hollydazzle-it was my first time and it was crazy hectic. I admit I was dissatisfied at first because my keys didn’t work and I kept having to get new ones at the reception desk, and since I have a two year old this was getting on my nerves. However one staff member in particular was a real rock star - the associate in training Autumn went above and beyond to take care of me and my family. She walked up to my room with us after the second time my keys had a problem to make sure that we got in ok, and she even took the time to talk to my kids-which was a pleasant surprise-it’s always nice to have employees interact with my kids and not just ignore them like they are a nuisance. when we saw her later that day she remembered our names, which was also a pleasant surprise. We only had one other issue with our stay-our hot water wasn’t working, so we let her know. But the next morning Autumn called us back to make sure that the issue was resolved and it fortunately had. I was surprised because Usually when i make a complaint, i just hope they don’t forget to fix it. But this is the first time someone followed up after the issue to make sure we were taken care of. We travel quite frequently and It’s very rare for an employee to reach out to our family and make us feel special!! She is genuine and that is rare to come across!!Definitely definitely will recommend this hotel and can’t wait to come back next year!!
