Great location near park, good restaurants and subway. Fun and delicious weekend brunch!

I wanted to take my 6 year old to New York during her winter break from school. I couldn’t afford a room near Times Square to see the celebration there. However, we had a great view of the fireworks at Central Park from our room. We loved the neighborhood around the hotel. Many restaurants to choose from and stores to stop into to get warm. We were also across the street from the American Muesum of Natural History and within a short walk to Central Park. The only con I would say about the hotel is that there was not a coffee pot in the room so once we were dressed we had to go to Starbucks down the street.

Very, very happy with check-in, room assignment, hotel staff and relatively easy on-street parking. We booked one of the suites and had room for our whole family to be comfortable. This is an older hotel in a prewar building, so it's loaded with charm but the bathrooms are small and the elevators are often pushed to capacity. Would have rated everything 5 stars except for the lack of coffee maker in the rooms - which means you have to get dressed to go to the Breakfast Room on the 2nd floor to get a cup of coffee to start the day. Other than that, it's a great hotel in a fabulous location.

Second stay at this hotel in 3 years. As expected, but the toilet seemed to be quite old and did not function well. Desk and concierge were quite helpful but the breakfast maitre d' was quite rude. Might consider getting another stationary bike for the gym.

Very comfortable and affordable accommodations.Very an attentive staff. I love the convenience of this west side location. I stayed here for the birth of my granddaughter, her ninth birthday party this weekend and dozens of times between,

One-ply toilet paper was something of a disappointment.

My daughter and I have come for 3 years now for a mother/daughter week-end in NYC. We love staying at the Excelsior and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. It is part of what makes our week-end perfect.

Clean, bright room with a great view of a park. Room was a nice size, bigger than other hotels we've stayed. The area the hotel was is was beautiful and clean. Very close to the subway! Nice variety of local restaurants that were in the residential area. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel staff was wonderful, moving to a different room so that we could have a better view. The room was comfortable, the bed was great, and there were many places to eat nearby. A subway stop was close to the hotel.

I like it very much but I miss a coffee machine in the room

Staff extremely friendly. Stay here every time I'm in New York!

This is a very nice old hotel in a great location. It is right across the street from the American Museum of Natural History and right next to a subway station. Near Central Park. Wonderful farmer's market with Tri-State produce and goods on Sunday right across the street. Wonderful, friendly neighborhood with many shops and places to eat. We will be back!!!

We had to extend our stay due to flight cancellation because of bad weather, we were able to keep the same room with no trouble. Staff was courteous and friendly!

Hotel is across the street from Museum of Natural History and close to Central Park with many restaurants close by.

Found this place through orbitz it was moderately priced for NYC standards. We just wanted a place to crash for the night after a Christmas party. We decided to walk, Even though subway was close enough to use. DFront desk staff were very "robotic" Gentleman at the 2nd floor breakfast who sat us was very friendly as well as the woman who sat us at the first floor restaurant.

The Excelsior was affordable and convenient on the upper west side. It has a rich elegance about it. The room was comfortable and classy. I would definitely return to this hotel next time I want to stay in Manhattan.

A well kept facility. Great breakfast buffet. Scrambled eggs not overcooked as they usually are in most buffet breakfasts

The place is run down and the staff is less than helpful. The place needs refurbishment in ever category to match its great location next to the Nat. History Museum.

we often stay at the Excelsior. However, this time we found the hotel dirty. It needs some sprucing up. As a matter of Fact, our room was not cleaned up when we returned after having been out of the room from 9 am until 3:00. Although they send a person to clean up before 4, what i did not like was them telling me (The people that i spoke to on the phone) that they had until 4 pm to clean the room. All they should have said was that we will try our best to accommodate you ASAP. This is a more client- centred approach. My son, who was in another room with his family also found the hotel dirty and preferred other hotels in the neighbourhood which are cleaner.

always a great place to stay. classic 1920s hotel in the very best location.
