I stayed at this hotel for two nights during the holiday season in 2016. The overall experience was terrible, from one bad situation to the next. Upon entering the room, it was evident that the house keeping needed care. The carpets in the suite were very dirty, top of tables had layers of dust, hair and debris. In the bathroom again dust, hair and debris all over the surfaces and unsightly stains of dried up fluids on the tiles. Other concerns I encountered were with maintenance of the unit; the toilet was a run-on toilet that was loud and continued with a hissing sound throughout my entire stay and kept me up at night. There had been failed attempts to repair the toilet tank with green tape. Other poor attempts at repairs in the unit included a mending job to tiles with clear packing tape which added further unsightly details. Also the bathtub did not drain and filled when the shower was used.To add to an already unpleasant stay, upon returning to the suite in the evening of my first stay, I arrived to learn that housekeeping had not been in to service the unit at all. The beds were not refreshed, the wet towels previously used were untouched near the bathtub, bathroom tissue was out, the trash bins were not emptied, and supplies were not replenished. Overall my stay was regrettably unpleasant and it impacted my trip during the holidays in a negative way. When I shared about the negative experience with the front desk staff when checking out the morning, the response was that they would pass the information along to the housekeeping supervisor. No apology was offered, nor any attempts to compensate for my troubles to rectify the situation. In fact, when I received my invoice there was a surcharge on the room amount. I discussed it with the staff, and the surcharged was adjusted, again the staff offered no apology at any point. When I booked my stay at the Sandman Hotel Lethbridge it was my understanding that the accommodations provided would be of a standard of cleanliness and quality reasonably to be expected from this type and price of hotel. These were not provided with reasonable care and skill because of the lack of attention to housekeeping, maintenance, and charges to my room. I also followed up later with an email to the hotel manager and to Sandman Guest Relations, and never received any type of follow up from them. If you are considering this hotel, I encourage to try a different option as there many others available.
On the positive the bed was comfortable. Otherwise the whole building needs renovating. Water stains on the ceiling, peeling wallpaper, dirty carpet, the wall heater sounds like a jet airplane doing it's preflight run up and it runs almost constantly. We had a corner room right next to the elevators which was convenient but the elevators themselves are in need of some maintenance. On our second day the room was supposedly made up with fresh glasses etc. On inspecting one it was filthy so we washed them all ourselves.
If you are looking for bad wifi, dirty rooms and poor customer service, this place is for you. I stay at many different hotels for work in different cities and this one is by far the worst place, wish I had the option of changing hotel. You will find flies around your room, the microwave not cleaned, wifi disconnects every 5 minutes, sheets with blood stains, toilet not cleaned. During my last stay, the toilet had stuff in it, when I called front desk, they told me that toilets are cleaned and inspected by a manager everyday to make sure it is cleaned. I am guessing they both missed this room. I've had issues water backing up in the shower. Apparently it is not a problem, it is how it is and they put us back in that same room. If a guest complains about a room, and there is a problem, you might have to close said took until you can fix the problem. I would compare this hotel to a old Motel from a back road.
Had a terrible stay here in December 2016, beds are uncomfortable and rooms are dirty, outdated, stained and very small. Worst of all the heater sounds like a jet engine and powers on and off all throughout the night waking everyone up over and over again. Seriously you can't even talk over it it's so loud. It is NOT controllable inside the room despite controls that say "off' they do not work, and neither does the temp control. Would NOT recommend, stay somewhere else if you value your sleep.
We went here for a retreat away from the kids for my wife's birthday. We chose this place due to it's location and price. The hotel had a package that for an additional charge of $10 per night we each received a Denny's restaurant gift card good for a free Grand Slam breakfast or $10 off another item. The hotel is older however they have been doing work to keep it up and I believe they have done renovations to many rooms. The decor in parts is a bit dated. We were given a room on the top floor with a king size bed and sitting area. The room was nice and clean, the sitting area appeared to be an after thought as it was placed in front of the air controls and access to the curtains. The bathroom was clean at first sight however once I closed the door while inside I discovered a dirty cleaning rag was left in the room on the floor beside the bathtub behind the door. Since we didn't notice the rag until late in the evening we did not bother to mention it that night and just avoided it. We used our Grand Slam gift cards the next morning at the Denny's only to find out it doesn't cover the entire cost of a Grand Slam as advertised, rather only $10 towards the slightly more expensive item, had I known that we may have spent more time looking at other menu options. When I asked the cashier about it I was told that is what the hotel has arranged with them and unsure why the card advertises otherwise. The hotel was fine and reasonably priced so it is a good budget option close to amenities. I would not have a problem recommending to others.
This Sandman may be a little lacking but it was fine for us. We were in town for a wedding. They allowed us to check in a bit early. We used the gym but not the pool though no one else was around. Washroom was clean and bed comfortable. The family went to Denny's the next morning. Would have liked to have conditioner for my hair.
I have stayed at a lot of the Sandman Hotels on business trips but I have to say that this one was the worst one that I have been to. The hotel itself is old and worn out and is in need of a major remodel. That in itself wouldn't be so bad but the place was very dirty and maintenance was poor. Carpets and furniture were stained. Tile grout in the bathroom was discolored. Not sure why but there were flys everywhere, in my room in the hallways and the restaurant. My traveling companion who stayed in a different room had the same comments. Need to invest some money into bringing this place up to standard and invest in some basic cleaning such as shampooing the carpets and couches. I will not be back to this hotel.
Was a really good stay. Room was clean and comfortable... was nixe having a lounge in the hotel.. .my only complaint maybe would be that the lounge closed fairly early.. it shares a lot with a strip mall..which was nice., for the am you could grab a 711 coffee ., if ya didnt want to make it in the room or head down to Dennys.... Good stay... will use again
The glass entrance doors were filthy and every wall sconce in the hallway on my floor had about 100 dead flies in each one. You can see this as soon as you walk off the elevator. I stayed on the 9th floor and the room had many cigarette burns on the floor and there was a carton of milk in the fridge from the previous guest. The furniture is worn and dirty. The tile on the bathroom floor was disgusting. I travel very frequently for business and this is by far the worst hotel I have stayed in on a business trip. THE AC unit ran the entire night and the controls on the unit did not work. My daughter and her friends room had an old jar of salsa behind the fridge and after three calls to the front desk to replace her sheets, because they had what looked like blood spots on them, they finally changed them. I had left my phone charger plugged in and called the hotel in the afternoon and left a message. They never returned my call. I stopped in the next day and they claimed that nobody had found it. The front desk clerk actually said she wasn't sure that the room had been cleaned yet. This was 2 days later. An absolutely dirty hotel.
We had originally booked in for a king bed but due to some issues, we had to bring our 9lb dog. Because we had the dog, we were relegated to non remodeled rooms. Instead of a king on the 8th floor, we received a 2nd floor room above Denny's. it was on the parking lot side so a bit noisier and light from the street lamps. The bed had a few stains on it. The windows didn't seem to close and let the air conditioning flow out as well as the terrible mosquito's in. Bathroom was clean. Staff was great The 2nd floor was also where they housed the pool facility and that made the floor quite humid and moist.
