We stayed at the sandman lethbridge July 29-30 2017. First impression? The lady at the front desk was very friendly and told us everything we needed to know, got us on our way to our room quickly, and that deserves to be mentioned. Good job on her part and much appreciated! Sadly, the front desk lady was about the only good part of our stay. To start off I have to say,for the cost of this room,my expectations were not at all inflated. However,I've stayed at many hotels that cost roughly the same and it's been a better experience for sure. Positives: the people at the Dennys restaurant in this hotel were very nice,we got our breakfast there very quickly and it was a good experience. I recommend having breakfast at Denny's it was fine. : the price was ok. The room was basic, but somewhat clean. The negatives: Beds are rock hard! Like trying to sleep on a slab of granite. By far the worst sleep I've had in years,in fact I didn't sleep much at all. : the bathroom was seriously run down, kinda moldy in the shower, peeling wallpaper, and just generally pretty uninviting. The back door steps are covered in gross cigarette butt debris and god knows what else....it actually stinks. True story. Also, though I don't personally need accessible features I am pretty sure there were handicap parking spaces but no ramp at the back entrance. Just saying. Don't stay here unless you are desperate to get out of the rain on a dark and gloomy night and only have a hundred bucks. That's my honest opinion.
A number of us went to the hotel because of a funeral... we were welcomed and treated so well. The rooms were great, they kept us all together and went above and beyond in catering to our needs. Not least giving us a compassionate rate. Thank you for making a difficult time easier
June 3 we stayed on the 9 floor in a room with an enormous king sized bed with two very comfy armchairs, lots of floor space and a spacious clean bathroom. The check in was seamless and the front desk was quick and very efficient as well as really friendly. Our room was spotless, and the coffee/ tea carafe was well stocked. The room has a small refrigerator and a micro wave, television (that worked well) air conditioning and was very quiet. The bed was super comfortable with a selection of different sized pillows and enormous!! The cost was 115.00 including the taxes and there is a lounge and Denny's lobby floor. I would stay here again for sure!
I would not recommend the Sandman Hotel in Lethbridge, The rooms were not clean when we got there, we had to ask the front desk for soap and shampoo as there was none in our room. The staff hand out rooms keys to anyone to any room without question. Two boys went down at different times and got keys to our room --i did know them but the staff did not know that. All they did was go down to the front desk and ask for Keys and they were given keys no questions asked. The floor in the bathroom the grout was coming out so after a shower i got into bed and all the tile grout that stuck to my feet ended up in my bed. Our bathtub was not clean at all. The rooms do need an update the drawers in our room were crooked.
Had a great stay here at the Sandman - they even had a room with a fridge available for us (forgot to request when booking). Slept well, and their hospitality staff were very good! Had a little mishap with the breaker (microwave and blow dryer operating at the same time isn't a great idea), but they fixed it very quickly! Pool was closed while we were there, but we weren't interested in that anyway.
attempted to get a room here last week and were promptly rejected because we only have a visa debit card they don't take cash in any amount other than that the guy at the desk was indifferent with us and offered no explanation to us other than he kept saying no, no no the location is not the greatest with nothing around the place but industrial areas and the restaurant connected to the place, denny's glad we didn't stay from what I have read
Location of hotel not great appears to be in wrong part of town. Only one reasonable restaurant nearby within walking distance and nobody walks. Rooms dated and a bit grubby. Breakfast provided was poor very little choice and the same all 10 days of our stay. Toilets in hotel lobby have needle bins in them and witnessed first hand a drugs issue in the hotel so all in all not a particular nice welcome to Canada. 24 hour attached to hotel which appears busy and was reasonable. Hotel reception staff fine but to be avoided. Sure ther are nicer places to stay at a similar price.
I stayed at this hotel for two nights during the holiday season in 2016. The overall experience was terrible, from one bad situation to the next. Upon entering the room, it was evident that the house keeping needed care. The carpets in the suite were very dirty, top of tables had layers of dust, hair and debris. In the bathroom again dust, hair and debris all over the surfaces and unsightly stains of dried up fluids on the tiles. Other concerns I encountered were with maintenance of the unit; the toilet was a run-on toilet that was loud and continued with a hissing sound throughout my entire stay and kept me up at night. There had been failed attempts to repair the toilet tank with green tape. Other poor attempts at repairs in the unit included a mending job to tiles with clear packing tape which added further unsightly details. Also the bathtub did not drain and filled when the shower was used.To add to an already unpleasant stay, upon returning to the suite in the evening of my first stay, I arrived to learn that housekeeping had not been in to service the unit at all. The beds were not refreshed, the wet towels previously used were untouched near the bathtub, bathroom tissue was out, the trash bins were not emptied, and supplies were not replenished. Overall my stay was regrettably unpleasant and it impacted my trip during the holidays in a negative way. When I shared about the negative experience with the front desk staff when checking out the morning, the response was that they would pass the information along to the housekeeping supervisor. No apology was offered, nor any attempts to compensate for my troubles to rectify the situation. In fact, when I received my invoice there was a surcharge on the room amount. I discussed it with the staff, and the surcharged was adjusted, again the staff offered no apology at any point. When I booked my stay at the Sandman Hotel Lethbridge it was my understanding that the accommodations provided would be of a standard of cleanliness and quality reasonably to be expected from this type and price of hotel. These were not provided with reasonable care and skill because of the lack of attention to housekeeping, maintenance, and charges to my room. I also followed up later with an email to the hotel manager and to Sandman Guest Relations, and never received any type of follow up from them. If you are considering this hotel, I encourage to try a different option as there many others available.
On the positive the bed was comfortable. Otherwise the whole building needs renovating. Water stains on the ceiling, peeling wallpaper, dirty carpet, the wall heater sounds like a jet airplane doing it's preflight run up and it runs almost constantly. We had a corner room right next to the elevators which was convenient but the elevators themselves are in need of some maintenance. On our second day the room was supposedly made up with fresh glasses etc. On inspecting one it was filthy so we washed them all ourselves.
If you are looking for bad wifi, dirty rooms and poor customer service, this place is for you. I stay at many different hotels for work in different cities and this one is by far the worst place, wish I had the option of changing hotel. You will find flies around your room, the microwave not cleaned, wifi disconnects every 5 minutes, sheets with blood stains, toilet not cleaned. During my last stay, the toilet had stuff in it, when I called front desk, they told me that toilets are cleaned and inspected by a manager everyday to make sure it is cleaned. I am guessing they both missed this room. I've had issues water backing up in the shower. Apparently it is not a problem, it is how it is and they put us back in that same room. If a guest complains about a room, and there is a problem, you might have to close said took until you can fix the problem. I would compare this hotel to a old Motel from a back road.
