The history of this property is amazing. And the fact that they've retained some of the "old" property makes it unlike almost everything else in Vegas, that works off the history, but as soon as it starts to get old, they feel like it should be destroyed and rebuilt.

Our toom was in poor condtion: Loose tiles, flaking paint, and loose fixtures. Our room safe didn't work either. So, I had to beg the front desk and hotel security to get my safe to work. I got a LOT of excuses. I had to keep going to security begging for someone to reset my safe and had to sit in my room waiting and waiting for someome from security to show up. I did not spend a LOT of money to travel to Las Vegas, just to sit in my room waiting for Security to show up.They finally got my room safe working on the afternoon of the second day. Then the entire hotel lost their cold water all day on our second day. We had to fill a trash can full of hot water to dump into toilet to flush it. This also caused all casino food venues to close, as well as all the restrooms. I insisted that I should NOT have pay the "ammenities" fees (aka resort fees) for my first two days for the reasons mentioned above. Josie at the front desk agreed to not charge me ammenity fees for my first two days. When I checked out, my room bill seemed confusing and misleading, but I needed to get to the airport , so I couldn't haggle and get all my questions answered before we left. I have been checking my online visa card account and have discovered several mysterious hotel charges that don't make sense and they add up to MORE than than I should have to pay. And there have been NO Ammenity fee deductions. For all of the above reasons, I CANNOT recommend the El Cortez Hotel Casino.

The area is a little sketchy, The security guard was nice and friendly, Good idea to have one !!! The outside “motel” part of the hotel was nicely redone, the cobbled outdoor curved hallway was done well to prevent wood rot, however it was a little tricky to walk on I would guess for old people, and the doorman dolly’s make a huge racket delivering luggage. They are great for carpeted floors, but for that top floor, it’s an automatic wake-up as it went by. Bubble type wheels would be quiet, not to mention I bet things will break how much things are shook up.
