The rooms were tidy, the bathroom was clean. The continental breakfast was skimpy. There was no juice left over, out of coffee I'm sure they had costco brand muffins - which is fine. it was very simple stuff for breakfast.

The place is gross and whatch out for ur deposits make sure u watch them right it down or u will have to fight for it back
The only thing I had problems with was that nothing was ready when I got there my room was suppose to be prepaid for and nothing was done i ended up having to pay an extra 100 for a security deposit which I was not informed of when my reservation plans were made.. the bed kept tipping over and was very uncomfortable and I asked for a main floor room and ended up on the second floor.. and ended up falling down the stairs. Which I was not impressed about considering I was suppose to be on the main floor to begin with due to health issues.
The man at the front desk was very nice but check in took a long time. The room was terrible. I got into town very late as I was just traveling through. I had two dogs with me so places to stay were limited. I chose Howard Johnson as I've stayed with them in other locations without issues. The room was disgusting! The air conditioner was so dirty I was afraid to turn it on, smoke detector was missing, fan in bathroom was missing the cover and dust was so thick it was hanging from the fan, the chain lock on the door was missing and the blankets on the bed were very thin and dirty. It was so late and I was exhausted from travelling for days that I didn't ask to change rooms (although apparently I got the last room). I feel like the room was way overpriced (almost $150) for the condition it was in. I will never stay at a Howard Johnson again and will definitely check reviews before booking my next room.
We made reservations for 2 nights but only stayed one night. Had to switch rooms 3x, first one was dirty, second room looked like someone was already staying in it (suitcase and clothes on bed) NO refund!!
This was a disgusting hotel I couldn't even stay the plugs didn't even have covers the bed was stained the toilet didn't work and had Pee in it when I got there it was horrible and they refused to refund my money even though I didn't stay
Worst property we've ever stayed in. Front desk staff claim it's under renovation and rooms on back side are OK. As we were tired, we decided we would trust the HJ brand. We were also travelling with our dog so were limited to pet friendly facilities. We checked in to the room just to drop off the dog and luggage and headed out for dinner. Upon our return we began to notice the deficiencies in the room starting with the 20+ year old TV as we couldn’t get a picture. We also noticed that the carpet was very stained and looked like it had not been properly vacuumed since there was small debris under the beds. There was also no bedding on the box springs and the fridge didn’t work. We called the front desk to be told the TV required manual control and that the remote only changed channels. When we again brought up the price based on the conditions, we were told that there would be no refunds since we checked in over an hour ago and no reduction in price. Considering the time of night and our expectation based on online reviews that I began to check, changing rooms seemed like a waste of time. We then noticed that the smoke detector had been removed and the fan cover in the bathroom was missing. The fan was covered in large chunks of dust. As we reluctantly climbed into bed, we then noticed how warm the room was. The thermometer indicated it was 28C and it was not possible to turn it down. Needless to say, it was not a restful night. The morning front desk clerk was apologetic and agreed that the conditions were unacceptable but there was nothing he could do because of a directive to drive revenue. He explained that we were not the first to complain, was aware of the poor reviews and knew that customers were often told that the hotel was under renovation even though nothing had been done to date other than closing rooms. He quite honestly told us that discount rates were increased to offset discounts such as CAA. The conditions at this hotel are deplorable and it is debatable if it should even be open. I wouldn't even rate it as 1 if possible.
My tittle explains it all....very sloooooooow check in, I got my room which was in need of a vacuum, the fridge needed to be clean and there was a stain on my pillow case..... I sucked it up and grabbed my own blankets and pillows from my truck and slept on top of the bed to feel safer.. Howard Johnson Sault Ste. Marie won't see me again.
Every time we get rooms here the place is legit so warm you literally sweat, you cannot mess with the heat to turn it down or off actually. The AC in the different rooms I've been in never work either, it's a clean place I've never had an issue with cleanliness but the heat needs to be controlled better. It would also be amazing if they had tub plugs in the washroom having a bath tub without a plug is pointless. Over all experience is meh.
