Hotel Belleclaire

3.5 out of 5.0

The location at 77th and Broadway is terrific, but the hotel was disappointing. First, the WIFI was terrible. I've been wondering what happened to all those old 14.4 internet modems, and now I know where they are. I could never get a stable signal, and it would repeatedly cut out after a minute or so. Completely unacceptable in 2018. Second, the room just seems a little shabby and in need of a refresh. My room had no closet, just a wall rack with some hooks and 3 cubbies. The bathroom looked like it was in need of a real power-cleaning. Maybe that's just the dark green tiles, but it didn't instill confidence. Also, the shower curtain was hanging from a straight rod, rather than the curved rod that most hotels adopted years ago so that the curtain wouldn't rub up against you while you shower. Third, there's a lot of street noise. I know, it's New York, and it isn't the hotel's fault if a city garbage truck decides to park 60 yards away at 2 am and leave the engine running for an hour. I was tempted to go out and turn off the ignition myself. Maybe the situation is better on the higher floors than on the 3rd floor, but better windows would help too. My room had a window air conditioner rather than central air, and that drowned out some noise when it cycled on, but it was noisy in itself. I highly recommend ear plugs.

Room is very small...you get the real old New York feel.

Rooms are extremely small, typical NYC style. Crew at check in was very nice. I think the hotel also has apartments, some of the people staying there were super shady. Pictures on website make the rooms look big, they're not. That being said it is a nice location if you're going to the Beacon Theater.

Friendliest staff you will encounter. Room has so much history being 115 years old. Excellent walking location for anywhere in the Upper West Side. Only down fall is no hot tub or pool to relax your legs after all the walking.

Street noise made sleep difficult. I think the hotel needs to invest in some Anderson style double pain windows because the vintage windows, with blinds and shutters do not shield the occupant from street noise at all - we could hear conversations 7 stories down, cars, building workers across the street, fire engines from a block away, etc. We stayed almost a week and got used to it but it was very noisy. Other than that it was a good place to stay.

The staff are friendly helpful great customer care

A very nice quaint boutique type hotel with a French flair. I like that it was away from the loud midtown area. My only issues was the shower and the lack of hot water. The water was too cold to even try to shower. The staff at the front desk were not that apologetic and didn’t offer any discount or refund. Basically it was “ oh well, sorry.” It’s too bad... I would of given this hotel a higher rating. I will still recommend this hotel as everything else was positive. i would just suggest that when you check in, make sure the hot water works before you unpack! Especially if it’s Room 700.

Our room was slightly bigger than most affordable NYC hotel rooms, which was surprising; we were on the 2nd floor. Our friends on the fifth & sixth floors noted that their rooms were not as big, so keep that in mind. If I have one complaint, it's really about the volume of the noise coming from the old radiator-style heater in the room. In a small room, the noise felt amplified, and hard to sleep to. We were staying overnight for the NYC Half Marathon, and had to get up the next morning at 4:30 to start our trek to the Brooklyn starting line, and I have to be honest, it was hard to sleep with the noise. We chose the hotel, though, because of it's proximity to the finish line. I have to say, I would think twice about staying there again, if only because of the noise. Other than that, everything else was great.

The room was small, but that was expected. Great price for NYC. Lots of character. Room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom had great lighting. Nice location on the Upper West side. Would stay again.

Location was perfect for our needs. it's convenient to a nearby subway stop, there are shops and restaurants nearby and Central Park and several museums are in walking distance. it is an older building so it's tougher to judge things like cleanliness and comfort. For instance the steam heating hisses and is difficult to adjust. The bathroom sink and bathroom are very small. Otherwise the room itself by NY standards was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall it wins on that, and location.

Wonderful venue and staff. Can't wait to return. No room service, but coffee available in the lobby. Excellent restaurant and bar recommendations from the front desk staff.

A sweet West side hotel. Nice breakfast pastries and VERY pleasant staff.

The staff was very nice and welcoming. My room was comfortable, I could watch people and traffic on Broadway from my window.I experienced a problem with the door lock and they were very quick to give me another room so they could work on the lock. The bed was comfortable. I asked for a wakeup call and was assured it would happen. It didn't, they said it was an automated system.

I booked this hotel at 246p 2/20/18 and literally checked in 14 mins later. Staff was very professional and courteous. Valet parking is $55 with tax for 24hrs which is good in this part of town. Staff woman at front front desk gave my 4 year old a coloring book and crayons upon check in as well !!! Clean room ,private bathroom ,centrally located near amc movie theater, cvs, duane reede and budget friendly eateries. Front desk staff also gave us menus for places that deliver to this hotel as well!!! I will definitely stay here again!

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights. Great experience.

Wonderful ambiance and helpful staff! Great location, with a feeling of older New York.

Great hotel and staff. Very convenient location. Can’t wait to go back. I would highly recommend Hotel Belleclaire.

Far from being 4 stars hotel. Tiny room, no heating ,air condition functional system, 5-10 minutes before hot water arrives, not one chair.

Good location of the upper westside. Walking distance to Central Park in a relatively quiet neighborhood.

Thank you for your feedback! We are glad you enjoyed your stay and learned about the history of the hotel. We are the landmark of the Upper West Side and have a lot of history. There is no pool or hot tub in the hotel but we have rooms with bathtubs where you can relax at the end of the day. Please request a room with a bathtub for your future stay. We look forward to welcome you back!
