Da Vinci Hotel

Certainly not a four star hotel, but very clean, with a polite staff and only a couple of blocks from the park. Only drawback for me was that the internet connection was horrible - which is problematic if you are trying to get some work done.

Hotel is on a somewhat quieter side street and our room location limited street noise and increased our comfort. The room is small as expected in New York and is in good condition. The staff are nice, but are ultimately unable/non-empowered to bring issues to satisfactory resolution. The key card lock failed on our door half-way through our stay -- not the keys themselves, but the lock unit. The room could only be opened by a master staff key. For three days, we needed a staff escort to enter our room on an upper floor. During this time, maintenance was promised several times but never delivered. Management never contacted us to ensure our satisfaction or to offer any form of compensation as a gesture to alleviate our inconvenience. While I recommend staying here and would consider doing so again, I am not able to offer the enthusiastic recommendation I might have provided had a timely and reasonable resolution been provided in our situation.

Found this hotel after a lot of research. Was considering VRBO or AirBnB places but for what we wanted to do the location and price of the DaVinci was perfect. Found the lowest price through an online site and called the hotel and they matched the price! My 12 year old daughter and I arrived in NY during rush hour. After a long drive in a cramped van from the airport we were really grateful to arrive at our hotel. Very friendly staff greeted us as we entered the lobby. No messing around at the front desk, a quick signature and they handed me the room keys and we made our way up. The room was nice and clean. It was average size with only the basic amenities. This is what we expected. This is what we paid for. If I wanted a huge, plush hotel room with a view I could have found it and would have to pay the price. I am sure they have nicer rooms but again, we got just what we were looking for. What I wanted was somewhere where we could walk to most of the places that we wanted to see. I wanted to be able to come back to a cool room (we visited in July) and relax when we wanted to. The DaVinci provided the perfect place for this. Walk to Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, NY Subway stations, too many things to list! We stayed for six nights and were perfectly content. Everything you need is close by: CVS, grocery stores, diners for breakfast, tons of places for lunch and dinner and yes, many different Starbucks to choose from!

for the greatly reduced Orbitz price, this was wonderful! Shabby but fine, with (thankfully) wooden floors instead of the usual scuzzy rugs. Bed a bit too soft for my taste, but otherwise no complaints.

Indifferent front desk staff; room HVAC unacceptably loud; mattress sunken in middle; lobby shabby and lacking in comfort; we arrived early and wanted to drop off our luggage before check-in and were told to leave our bags against the wall in the lobby-completely out in the open. When we questioned that logic we were told there was nowhere else to put it. Overall, we understand the need to be open-minded when staying in these old hotels. This experience, however, was entirely charmless.

So close to Central Park and Times Square. I will use it again. Hotel is old. But covered my needs. Breakfast basic but enough. Had my own bathroom. The heater in my room was broken. But I used a portable one. So was good. I was there in December. Happy with my stay.

We stayed at the Di Vinci hotel to go sight seeing in the city. The hotel is close to the subway, Chipotle, and Central Park. The staff was very courteous! They'll watch your bags is you arrive early or if you want to go out after check out time. It was a very pleasing experience!

This is a "legacy" hotel. If you want a room to sleep in, and nothing more, at a cheap and clean hotel then this is a good choice. The rooms are small, which is not a problem unless you have a lot of luggage.

You cannot beat the location of the Da Vinci - a four minute walk to Carnegie Hall or Central Park. An easy walk to Times Square or MOMA. The rooms I've stayed in are modest; decent bed and sheets, but the lighting is terrible. At least there were bulbs in all the light fixtures this time; last time I stayed one of the lamps had no bulb. You need to have all the lights on to get the dimmest glow in the room. The rooms I've stayed in have no view, but look out onto a Dickensian courtyard with an AC unit. The desk, chairs, and chest of drawers look like hand-me-downs from 1970. The TV channel takes a long time to change which makes TV watching a big chore and not even worth it. The best part of the room is the bathroom, I've never had a problem with the shower, water pressure, water heat, toilet, etc. The toiletries they provide are good quality. Ask where your room will be and try very hard not to stay on the first floor as it is very loud. You will not be able to sleep past 6 a.m. unless you have the AC on as white noise. If you can afford better, you might want to spring for it.

hotel does not had a place or room to hold the luggage until the time is for check in

We totally enjoyed our stay here. The room was quiet and comfortable; the location was super convenient to restaurants, museums and Central Park. The Italian restaurant/ bar in the basement was an added plus.

Two problems and the receptionist dealt with them immediately and efficiently.

Other than being close to Times Square and less expensive, there is not much else going for this hotel. Pictures make it seem bigger and nicer than actual. Bed was not comfortable, room was small, wifi barely worked, cable was glitchy often. Would not go here again.

except for its excellent location on 56th St between Broadway and 8th Ave (in between Columbus Circle/Central Park and Times Square), this is a horrible hotel with abysmal customer service. The public areas, rooms, and bathrooms are dark and dingy. The air conditioning and wireless internet did not work in my room. Since it was 90+ degrees outside, I complained about the a/c to the desk clerk after initially checking in; the first night they were unwilling to move me to another room with working a/c so I sweated the entire night. Finally, at 10 pm on the second night they replaced the a/c unit after I complained several more times to the desk clerk. Of course, they didn't ever do anything about the non-functional wireless internet. I asked to speak with the "manager" but the mysterious manager never was at the hotel and has never called me as the desk clerk promised. Never Again!

Small but perfect room to be out on the town in nyc. Everything within walking distance.

We got a great Black Friday deal for this hotel. We worried about the size of the room, but that proved not to be a problem. It was not huge, but it was comfortable (the fact that it was a full bed rather than a queen or two twins probably helped). The staff was friendly and helpful, and the location was great. The only drawback was the wifi, which was fairly reliable, but generally slow -- enough to check email or do a google search, but not for much else (e.g. streaming video). Overall, a nice stay and a great value.

This hotel was such a pleasant surprise! We loved the people at the counter ( Jennifer and Anna) and the restaurant downstairs. The room was adequate size and the bathroom was certainly big enough. Towels and bedding were good. The coffee and croissants in the morning were an added bonus. Even the elevator was much larger than I would have expected in such a small hotel. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will do it again.

The DaVinci Hotel was amazing. We recieved a shuttle service after taking the mega bus from the airport for free. Upon check in we were politely greeted by the front desk rep and later got to meet Manager of the property. The check in process was literally 2 minutes. By far the easiest and best check in I have witnessed. Both interactions were superior. The location was great. We walked to times square daily and was a few blocks from central park. The size of the room was perfect for the 2 of us and was quite cozy considering the busy city life. The bed linens were nice and clean and the bed extremely comfortable. The room had no smell or odor. Shower and bathroom were also clean. No critters or pest. I will definitely return on our next trip and recommend for anyone looking for a budget friendly hotel with a great location.
