Bastión Luxury Hotel

Beautiful hotel in Cartagena

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Bastion hotel. The hotel staff was very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. We especially enjoyed the view from the rooftop pool, which is unique to other comparable luxury hotels. It is also located in a superb location within the historical city center, which is convenient for walking around and exploring the beautiful streets, as well as walking to some of the very best restaurants within the old city. The room was well air-conditioned and spacious, and we had a comfortable bed. The breakfast was good with a variety of fresh fruits, juices, yogurts, cold cuts, pastries, and eggs cooked to order. We also enjoyed the spa, and the service was outstanding. Two areas could be improved: housekeeping services could be more attentive to details to ensure everything was stocked so we did not have to call down repeatedly for additional items. We also had some issues with transportation booked through our hotel. One driver repeatedly tried to give us the hard sell for additional activities, and another driver for the airport transfer tried to coerce us into paying the fare twice (we had already paid at the hotel), even going so far as to mock-calling the hotel to say that we had not paid for it.

Posada La Fe

Great value for the experienced traveler

We're thrilled with our choice to stay at Posada La Fe. The staff were great, the breakfast large and outstanding, coffee was always available, and the location is excellent for people who want to see what Getsemani is really like. After walking around in this neighborhood, we couldn't stand going into El Centro and dealing with hawkers, salesmen, and hoards of tourists. Getsemani is full of small, inexpensive hostels, and the tourists are shoestring do-it-yourselfers. At Posada La Fe, you get to take advantage of the authenticity of this part of Cartagena, including an almost infinite supply of hole-in-the-wall restaurants where you're likely to spend less than 30.000 COP for a full meal for two. The neighborhood can be loud and rowdy in the evenings (in a fun way), but we enjoyed this part of the experience and never had trouble sleeping in our room, which was surprisingly quiet (and we do bring earplugs always). 100% recommended for experienced travelers, but not recommended for people who prefer package deals, expensive restaurants, and guided tours, room service, and their beds turned down at night.
