Stayed at this hotel for a week Sept 20-27. Great small hotel, perfect location, extremely helpful and friendly staff, super clean, and has a great breakfast! Will definately stay here again on my next visit!
From our late arrival to getting washing done the staff were great, even with very little english. It's perfectly situated in the middle of town, close to everything. Room was good, although not large, it was just big enough and serviced very day. A great place to stay.
Facilities are clean and well maintained. House keeping staff good. Apart from that it is ordinary. Internet network is poor. Nowhere you can boil water yourself (i like my own coffee), need to ask a staff, takes forever, very inefficient system. PLS READ Front desk staff thinks they are in a position of authority and put shame to common sense: i booked for 2 people knowing i would meet the sister of my best friend in my stay and i gave (as asked) the full name at check-in. One evening my friend came in her naval hospital uniform straight from work for a dinner, just as the prior evening. But on that day the short one at the front desk (the same staff the registered the name at check-in) decided to assert her zealousness (to be quickly joined by the tall one) by refusing my friend access because she did not have her national ID initially but just her government hospital staff ID; took a picture on “a” smartphone!?, hellooo is this North Korea?; etc... They have no clue that the reason they have to register visitors is a contingency for the hotel guest (if something goes wrong) and not to routinely report to any authority as it was argued. The point here is that there was zero use of brain power, knowing full well that this person was not a common prostitute, as an example, but nevertheless treated my friend sister as such.
The hotel was lovely and clean. The room was not huge, but there's so much to see in Cartagena that a large room isn't necessary. The hotel had a very nice breakfast and was only a few minutes' cab ride from the walled city. The service was excellent, and everything was very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place!
Pros: excellent location, close to everywhere, staff are very helpful, very clean and pretty. Cons: no blanket, there was an old blanket in the closet but no real blanket on the bed only and only a sheet. Ants in the room, I understand it’s hot and it is possible to have ants every where but still!!!! Bathroom faucet was broken, breakfast was not that good very boring but they have fresh fruits and scrambled eggs but bread had mold on it I had to show it to our server. Small rooms, only bath towels, no towels for hands or wash cloth, no shower gel only one shampoo and soap for hands. Beds are not that great but it was ok.
Very good location and not that far from the beach. The customer service from the staff is unparalleled. It is very clean. However in my experience the water from the shower never gets hot. Also the A/C could cool off the room quick and the sheet covers may not be adequate. But you can control the A/C with a remote. Overall excellent hotel, will stay here again.
It was a family trip, so we booked two rooms (One matrimonial and another with two beds) from the moment we left the taxi, the staff received us and helped us with the luggage. (The hotel is located in a strategical zone, 200m from the beach) The rooms were comfortable, Cold A/C, Tv, minibar. And got cleaned every morning. One of the highlights was the breakfast; a delicious buffet, fresh with variety. The terrace with view to the street is covered by a big tree and natural shadow making a pleasure to eat there. Definitely, the best about the hotel is the staff. As a family, we spent really good time here!
Absolutely loved our stay here. Just so cute and unique compared to the other high rise hotels around it. Excellent location! Beautiful courtyards, updated rooms, comfy beds and friendly and helpful staff. Would stay here again. Clean facility. Enjoyed the free breakfast too, especially the mornings when the fruit selection included mangoes. I thought the value was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Ok, it’s cheap so you can’t expect too much but I’m not sure if it offers value; I am sure it is not the hotel that is described in the rave reviews below. The rooms are big and only moderately clean, furniture and particularly the bathroom borderline grotty, the breakfast almost inedible (but free) and the mattresses hard. Location is 5 minutes or an 8k cab ride from the centre so pretty ok. High point is the air conditioning which can turn the room into a fridge, low point is a room without a window (even prisons have windows). You could stay here if you’re looking for somewhere cheap but if you look a little longer you will probably find somewhere for better value at the same, maybe slightly higher price
This hotel had breathtaking courtyards with lots of flowers and plant life! The buffet for breakfast which was included in our stay, was delicious and if they ran out of food, the staff would literally make you a special order! It was so great! The beach is literally a one minute walk away where you will pass a Crepes and Waffles restaurant which was delicious! The staff at this hotel are very kind and helpful which made checking in and out a breeze, especially with the 1 pm checkout time! The area around the hotel is terrific with tons of delicious restaurants and clubs right on the block! The old city of Cartagena is only a twenty minute walk away or diez mil pesos by taxi, great price! The rooms were spacious and the beds were super comfortable, everything was clean and tidy! With a hotel this close to the beautiful Caribbean Sea, you don’t even need a pool! I am definitely going to recommend this magnificent hotel to my family and friends, I cannot wait to return in the future! If you want a safe and clean hotel with character, come to Hotel San Martin!
