My wife and I booked the Secrects Maroma hotel to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived at the hotel I knew we made the right choice. The staff greeted us with a cool wash cloth and a tasty punch drink. We were directed to the front desk to check in and it was very easy and smooth. The front desk are actually individual front desks with seating for the guests. The front desk clerk was very nice, gracious and informative. When we arrived at our room, which was the junior suite ocean view, we were very impressed with how nice the room was appointed . We were on the fourth floor, so the view of the resort was very nice. Also the room doesn't have those annoying plastic do not disturb/privacy signs. Instead there is a red light switch when activated inside the room also is red outside the room which indicates privacy to the housekeeping staff. Additionally our room was very close to most of the main restaurants, activities and nightly entertainment. I've stayed in many 4 and 5 star resorts in the Caribbean and the staff at this resort were superb. Everyone was so friendly and gracious. When you would see a staff member they also smiled and would say hello(hola) in Spanish . The staff always were so helpful with any needs you might have. And this friendly gracious attitude did not only represent only the front desk staff, but everyone . From the; individual building concierge, restaurant severs, activities, entertainment, pool and beach attendees and housekeepers.
We had a very nice time. One thing I would like to see more of is more vegetarian options at the restaurants.
We have been to many resorts in the Caribbean this by far is the nicest. Clean resort, great food, excellent staff, everything was awesome.
This resort is about as close to perfect as possible. It is not by the hotel zone but it is very close to Playa del Carmen which is a very touristy town with clubs, dining, and shopping. The resort itself is big but not as big as some of the ridiculous 1000 room compounds that are out there. This is better because there's always a table at a restaurant, a seat by the beach or pool, and a waiter nearby getting your drink. Staff is fantastic and there are daily activities throughout the day to keep you busy. We had a slight issue with mosquitoes but that is natural for this time of year. Bring your bug spray. Restaurants are great as well and have a lot of variety. Will definitely go back.
Beautiful resort right on the beach. The ocean is really blue and clear and nice to swim in. The staff was unbelievable, they new your names and made sure you were having a good time. The restaurants were pretty good and the shows were fantastic. You can relax or participate in the fun activities. We would definitely go back.
Beautiful place and wonderful beach. The Japanese food show is very nice. We have tried every food, Mexican, Japanese, French, Italian every one in the same hotel. Great options for dinner.
Our experience was phenomenal. On the resort they have several bars, all with high quality liquor choices (ketel one, 1800, jack daniels, fireball, makers mark, etc), so it was difficult trying to understand the need for a "preferred" lounge. They offer several free things to do while on the resort: kayak tours, putt putt golf, giant water chess, sports hall with billiards, ping pong, etc.
Excellent resort!!! Amazing beach!! Beach cabana is worth the extra $.
This was the second time my wife and I have stayed at SMB and again, we absolutely loved it. The beach has to be one of the best beaches in all of Mexico. I could sit on the beach beds everyday for the rest of my life and be in absolute paradise. I would recommed steering clear of the Unlimited Vacations sales pitch (that is unless you have $50,000+ of disposable income and are prepared to cut them a check for 35% of it that day). The food was good, our favorite was the Asian restaraunt. The options at Seaside Grill for lunch were underwhelming; I'd recommend waiting until the Barefoot Grill opens at 12:30. We had a swim-out room and loved it. We spent most of the evenings prior to dinner lounging in our secluded pool. The spa was great as we did the hydrothreapy twice and also enjoyed a couples massage. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone who has never been to a Secrets property.
first off i would like to thank my son for surprising me with this gift
Secrets Maroma is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed at. I stayed there will my husband for 5 nights and we had the most fun amazing time. The food, drinks, service were always on point. We didn't even want to leave the hotel to go anywhere else because the hotel always had a great jam packed schedule. I had an amazing time. I want to go back... i will miss this place.
We were at Secrets for 5 nights, 4 full days and enjoyed every minute! Wish we could have stayed longer.
The location and beach are perfect, however, the food leaves a lot more to be desired. And lets not forget lack of entertainment.
I have stayed in Cancun area and was not prepared for the tropical humid weather that the Playa del Carmen area offered. Upon arrival, which was earlier than check in, we had to wait for our room but luckily our tour liaison was there to help get us set up with excursions to Chicen Itza and a three cenote tour with Maya-land Adventures (both were amazing). After we declined the concierge desk's offer of the $200 free money that they give you to use at the resort as we had already stayed at the hotel chain in Puerto Vallarta and wanted to skip the sales pitch. We did receive a call the next morning at 9 am from the front desk stating that we needed to come claim our free money and would not let us decline the offer. After arriving to our room and unpacked, we found that the safe was not working and called down. They sent someone very quickly and it was fixed within the hour. After which we relaxed and grabbed dinner from the French restaurant. It was very good and the service was great. It did rain while we there which could explain why there were SO many mosquitoes but I got eaten alive. Our room did come with replant but those bugs weren't even phased. Our ocean view room faced the gardens and when we asked the front desk, they offered to upgrade our room for more $$. I was visiting this resort for a friends wedding to find that other guests who had booked partial ocean views had a greater view than we did. Also, there was a leak near the light fixture outside which constantly had our bench soaked and it could not be sat on the entire trip. It was very disappointing as the bench was the only place that offered the ocean view. The staff at all of the restaurant and bar locations were great. Don't expect anything to open prior to 7 am so order room service for breakfast if you have an early trip as there is no to-go options. Lunch is pretty meh at the pool but good if you go to seaside. Dinner at all the restaurants were very good. If bugs eat you alive, stick to the places indoors - I believe all of the outside seating areas have bug spray but they still get you. Weddings on the beach were good, it is kind of secluded (no one within 30 feet of the wedding cabana). The party does have to walk past everyone to get to the reception gazebo and the party is hosted right on the patio (unless it rains then it is in the World Cafe - we saw two receptions prior to my friends wedding). It was a very beautiful resort and the staff was wonderful. It was not my ideal vacation spot and I would not recommend the resort.
The only reason we gave a 4 was because the food menu at some of the restaurants were too eclectic. We didn't like the Italian restaurant, nor did we find anything we liked at the French restaurant. We are simple people, so that could be why. But service was amazing, grounds were super clean and impressive, staff was pretty prompt at the pool and it was a busy week. They went above and beyond to make us welcome and comfortable. They just need to keep to offer a couple more simple dishes on the menu for people like us :)
After reading all of the reviews, I was assured that we would have a great honeymoon. After arriving at the resort, they actually exceeded my already high expectations. The staff, the service, food and amenities were all incredible. We will definitely be going back for our anniversary.
Excelent experience with my wife. Great shows and staff
The beach was covered with sea weed each day. I will say that the resort and the staff worked very hard trying to clean this up but it looked like a never ending story. Will try again in a different month. Been there before and never experienced this
40TH BDAY GETAWAY, AWESOME AND RELAXING, NEVER LEFT RESORT! BEAUTIFUL RESORT AND BEACH, VERY CLEAN AND STAFF ATTENTIVE. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Best beach around- and the hotel and staff are so great. You wont be disappointed.
