This hotel has everything and more then what I was expecting

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The staff was great-helpful and friendly. The room was awesome-well layed out and comfortable. The location was perfect-great access to restaurants and shopping.

The room was not especially great--long and narrow, with a single small window at one end looking out on an airshaft. It was cave-like and a place you would not want to spend much time. That said, the king-size bed was exceptionally comfortable, the room was well decorated and the bathroom was nice. I often feel that when you make a reservation of Orbitz, the hotel gives you the worst room. This was a case in point.

We arrived before the 4:00pm check in. Had to wait at least 2 hours for a room. They said we would get a call, we never did. Had to ask again about a room. We did get an upgrade to a king bed.

We had a really nice stay here. Everyone was very friendly and rooms were quiet and clean. There was just a lack of communication as we checked in. Other than that, wonderful stay.

The hotel itself has retained its elegance, even while keeping a hip feel. The public spaces and rooms were very nice and the Jackknife bar had a great, lively atmosphere. Many hotels feel insulated from the town they are in. The Sentinel is nicely integrated into the cityscape.

The hotel was very nice. It's a bit pricey but very nice. Great staff and service. Great location to downtown Portland. I could walk to everything. Located on rail system from airport. Bar and restaurant on site. Starbucks on site. Portland is a great city and amazing people. You should go!

This is a great hotel in a great location, wonderful glamorous rooms. Good value for money. The staff was excellent, especially the front desk. The hotel bar attached in the lobby is also very charming. Enjoyed every part of the hotel and recommend to anyone staying in Downtown Portland!

This hotel overall was a good value for the cost. The location for my business meetings was close and convenient.

Perfect Portland hotel. An older hotel polished up and fitted out perfectly.

great hotel, clean, great service, good location, great price loved it would definetly book again

The staff were super friendly and helpful, full of information. We got a free upgrade, which was a bonus...wish we could have stayed longer. Great location, near good shopping and good eating. Loved it!

Alright little expensive staff weren't very helpful or helpful

We've lived in the area for 15 years and have stayed at some great hotels in downtown Portland (Heathman, Benson, etc)...I don't know how we've missed this gem! The Governors Hotel (now Sentinel) was top-notch. From the easy, efficient, and quick check-in (our front desk clerk made sure we knew his first name he left the front desk to walk us down to the elevator (FYI another staff was present and ready for the next front desk guest) and he even showed us how to use our key card). Probably the most comfortable hotel bed we've slept on since our stay at the NYC Four Seasons. After dinner we peeked into a private dining room with a wine "cellar" along one long wall. A staff member "caught" us and graciously invited us in (no guests were present...he was setting up the room for another event). He told us a bit about the size of the room and encouraged us to go look at the wines. Again, he could have easily looked the other way, or even just said "hello." But instead took the initiative to pro-actively welcome our goosenecking and encouraging us to come have a look at everything. All while he continued to do his job. He wasn't trying to "sell" us the room...he seemed genuinely proud of the dining room and wanted to show it off. This is not the norm we've experienced in downtown Portland in the past! When we were leaving our room at the end of our stay, someone from housekeeping ran into us when we were waiting for the elevator. She spoke to us and wanted to know if we were checking out (WE didn't engage her, SHE proactively spoke to us). She inquired how we enjoyed our stay. (I don't think she was head of housekeeping or anything like that...I'm pretty sure she is the employee that probably had to make-up our room.) She thanked us and asked if we needed anything or anyone to help us with our bags (just had small over night bag, but was awesome that she offered and seemed genuine--very refreshing!). I assume The Sentinel must take care of their employees based on the way they seem to truly enjoy their jobs! Jake's is a great restaurant to have in your lobby. Had Mac & Cheese for dinner and completely awesome fresh Dungeness Crab Eggs Benedict for breakfast. Top-shelf service and surprisingly reasonable prices. Highly recommend. It was very nice to have a great place to eat right in our hotel (instead of overpriced & pretentious hotel lobby restaurants that are abundant in downtown PDX). We can't wait to go back to The Sentinel. Our new favorite hotel! Thanks for a great weekend getaway!

Everything you'd ever want in a Downtown Portland hotel.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. The beds are also very comfortable. Staff was pleasant but maybe a bit slow.... When asked for a nearby diner recommendation for breakfast, a blank stare was the reply. The hotel has a large Starbucks attached to it, which for us is a negative. With all the good/great local coffee in Portland-- Stumptown! It was unfortunate to have such a middlebrow chain attached to this local landmark hotel. Recommended, but if you are looking for Luxe, this is not it.

Beautiful, luxurious ,Delightful but expensive and noisy.

My husband and I recently did a NW tour starting in Seattle and ending up in San Francisco. This was by far our favorite hotel of the trip! The minute we checked in, we were presented with a map on which the woman who helped us marked places of interest. It was in a great location. We walked everywhere...restaurants, breweries, shopping. The rooms were great, very quaint. I loved the decor of the whole hotel, green hotel room doors and rock band posters included. My ONLY complaint would be that we stayed on the second floor, and the street noise was a little loud. Again, we were downtown. They did provide ear plugs for us so this must be something they've heard before. Overall, it was very good. We would definitely stay here again!

We had one of the handicapped-equipped queen rooms without a view. The room was spacious, good looking and comfortable as was the bath. The hotel is close to at least 3 light rail lines which we used everyday to travel to NE Portland where our family lives. I would stay here again.

The hotel is located near the Pearl district and close to shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. Also is centrally located to public transit so we didn't even rent a car until we left the city to head to wine country. Definitely ask for a pint of salt & straw ice cream to be brought up to your room if you can't make it to one of their shops or the line is too long. Only wish they had a pool because it was super hot while we were there!
