With beautiful weather year-round, a prime position on the bay, and a number of stunning outdoor areas, you and your pet will absolutely love visiting Oakland.
Part of the Rails-to-Trails program, Shepherd Canyon Trail begins in Montclair Village and ends near Saroni Drive and Shepherd Canyon Drive. Along the way you will find scenic views of Oakland’s hills and get to walk through a number of oak and eucalyptus trees. Next up, Robert Sibley Volcanic Preserve has both on-leash and off-leash areas for your pup. Dogs are more than welcome at Lake Merritt as long as they are on a leash.
In case you want to let your pup run off his leash, head to any of the many dog parks in the area. Mosswood Park Dog Run and Joaquin Miller Dog Park are two of the more highly rated parks. Both have separate areas for bigger and smaller dogs as well.
When you are hungry, stop by the many places that have outdoor seating options. Here, your pup is more than welcome. If you want to check out Jack London Square, where the famous author once hung out, take a seat at Chop Bar for bistro style food. The Coffee Mill & Bakery will treat you to traditional breakfast and lunch options. Bellanico has delicious pasta dishes and is more than happy to give your pup a water bowl. Rosenblum Cellars is a winery that uses only California-grown fruit.
A visit to California is incomplete without at least one stop at its famous burger joint, In-and-Out Burger. You can probably even score a hat for your pup to wear. For happy hour, check out Bocanova, Penelope Bar & Lounge, or Heart & Dagger Saloon. Kingfish Pub & Café will even allow your pup inside.
