The Claremont is my favorite hotel in the US. It combines luxury accommodations, a beautiful & unique spa, two olympic size outdoor swimming pools in the lush Berkeley hills, an incredible helpful and genuinely happy staff. It is, of course, only minutes from downtown Berkeley with all its world renown museums, eateries and other rich cultural attractions. My parents honeymooned at The Claremont in 1945 and i've been going there (almost0 every since!

Great Staff Great location Decently priced for all the good extra service

It’s a beautiful, classic hotel that literally propels you into a sort of early 20th century elegance.

Beautiful hotel, lovely room. Staff was efficient and pleasant.

This hotel used to allow access to pool as part of fairly expensive room fee. They no longer do that. Seems unreasonable. Especially for members of their "President's Club." Otherwise, very nice service, good location.

We were able to check in early and were upgraded! The staff and room were awesome

Close to the wedding we went to in the hills, wonderful food at the hotel, good facilities, fantastic gym

Very cool place. Only improvement would be better lunch menu and not closing the only restaurant between 10:30 and 11:30 am.

I hope that with the price they would’ve included a breakfast

Home away from home. Everything was perfect. This place is consistently excellent!

What you should know is that the "club" part of "Club and Spa," is very real. Warm weather and a holiday weekend (Labor Day) made it stressful to find open lounge chairs by the pool--the last thing you want to be doing after paying for a luxury hotel is scouting out space around the pool. The staff seemed at a loss for a solution. Most people seemed to be part of the club and knew the deal, so they had come early and thrown their towels down to save four or more spaces sometimes. Annoying! I can understand the hesitancy of the staff to pick towels up and upset club members who pay $$$$ yearly, having heard one lady demand an umbrella. Yikes. There needs to be a solution for hotel guests and the pool. More chairs in anticipation of a busy weekend? There was a sign that prohibited extra club guests during the busy time, but I'm not sure it was being enforced. This review is pool-heavy because that was the main draw for our visit. And maybe cleaning the lounge chairs a little.

Breakfast too expensive. I've stayed in hotels in Chicago for less money and shuttle was free and so was breakfast. They charge you for everything for a hotel that was fair compared to others I've stayed in that were nicer. Too expensive for shuttle and breakfast.

I came in from the East Coast, exhausted from traveling all day & crashed. At 11:00 pm, I was woken up by screaming, loud music, and people running up & down the hallway. NOT what I would expect from a hotel that I paid $350 for one night. On checkout I mentioned this to the front desk, and she basically thanked me for saying something about it. No offer to comp my $28 restaurant bill (for 1 cocktail & some French fries) or even the $4 can of diet coke I drank for my headache. On the positive side: nice bartenders.

Staff was dishonest, condescending and down right rude. Made my teenage son feel unwelcome at the pool and in dinning room. Dinning room hostess was rude, unprofessional and snarky, both nights of our stay.

The Claremont is a nice, mellow escape from the madness. There are tons of activities and beautiful facilities to accommodate ones every wish. The staff is welcoming and friendly. In fact, WE never wanted to leave the resort.
