The location is excellent for proximity to the university, but that is about it. Homelessness and dirty streets are a significant problem, but our room had additional issues. Although the staff was very friendly and accommodating to our requests for additional towels and pillows (after we paid extra for our unexpected third person) the room had no working coffee maker, the poorest water pressure I have ever experienced ( in addition to ineffective water temperature control), an inaccessible closet ( due to location of bed pushed against it), and an ant problem. We knew there might be issues as it is an older hotel, but for more than $200 a night we were more than a little disappointed.

It was quiet clean and a little funky but I loved it for my overnight in Berkeley to see a concert. Will use the again.

Really great location in downtown Berkeley. Friendly staff. Really well-maintained classic old-fashioned hotel set up. Rooms were really fine: Clean, cozy, well-maintained, comfortable bathrooms. I will definitely stay here again when I’m in Berkeley visiting family; it was very convenient for them. Only negatives to report are some street noise, which I found actually cool But could bother some—I was looking right out over A familiar major street which was fun for me. Also if you’re there in the summer or heat request a fan. Great location and place for the price.

Great location but the property is minimally maintained. Walls of room are bare - not a single photo, painting or poster. No bath floor towel to step on when you get out of the shower. No facial tissue (just TP to work with). If you want to rinse your mouth out after brushing you have to use one of the two paper cups provided for coffee. Tiny TV with basic cable. In places it feels like there are holes in the floor beneath the carpet and the one stair landing felt like it could give way at any moment. Electrical conduit for outlets is run along the exterior of the walls. Lamps and shades mismatched and looked sourced from garage sales. Parking - well you are on your own; set your alarm on your phone. Oh yes, no in-room phone to call management. On the upside it could be seen as kitschy in a way that spending the night on a David Lynch set could be cool to some people. All this for $200 a night - king with private bathroom (other rooms are shared bathroom). Will look for alternative on the next trip.

No parking. Decrepid rooms. Table lamp broken. No phone in room. Excellent location in downtown Berkeley. Run by a pleasant Chinese family.

Room next to large noisy fan until 2am. Lamp did not work. Had no idea there was no bathroom in the room. Little room to sit at table too large for room.Wow.
