This was the perfect hotel for a Berkeley tour. It was so close to campus and could hold our bags till we were all done with the tour. Plus it is full of character. Loved it!

The staff were friendly. The hotel was kitschy cute. It is in a very old building and we could hear the people above us and to the sides of us....moving furniture, snoring, tv, talking, etc. When you are in the bathroom, you can clearly hear conversations from adjacent rooms through the vent. We couldn't get our TV to get reception so we called the front desk. They sent maintenance who couldn't get it to work either. They brought a new TV that also didn't get reception. The maintenance guy was like "Sorry, I tried" and basically gave up. We never heard another word about it and weren't offered anything to compensate for being without a TV. The noise factor alone was enough for me not to stay at the hotel again. It was really difficult to sleep.

The staff is always cheerful and helpful whenever we've stayed here. The hotel is right off Telegraph and a short walk from Shattuck, where there are tons of wonderful stores and restaurants. It's also right on the edge of the university, so if you've got business there, it's the perfect place to stay. Smallish rooms in an older building but very well-maintained and clean, and best of all, whatever detergent they use on the sheets, it has no obnoxious perfumey scent (like so many hotels have) and does not give me an allergic reaction.

My daughter and I stayed here, and it was great for us. The rooms are a little small, but clean and comfortable overall. You can't beat the location if you need to be near campus. Staff is excellent. See below for some minor complaints that could be improved.

Everything at this hotel is tasteful and with a personal touch - from the inviting lobby with giant arm chairs, to the trivia nights in the bar, to the excellent desk where you can work as comfortably as anywhere for a few hours if you need to. Right next to the UC Berkeley beautiful campus, to shops and cafe's. It is the second time I stayed here and I will not want to go anywhere else next time I visit Berkeley. Staff is super-friendly! I only stayed for 2 nights and was outside the hotel for most of the time, yet there were several times a day when the staff surprised me with spontaneous acts of kindness, occasionally without my even asking!

Older hotel. Very attentive staff. Enjoyed being in a quieter part of town. Biggest drawback was that our room was very small, difficult for two people to move around. Would have been a less enjoyable trip if we had had to spend time in our room.

The staff was so helpful to make sure I could find the sites that I was looking for. On-line it said that hotel is walking distance from several key sites the staff went the extra mile to make sure I could find my way. I enjoyed the late check out so I could get extra zzzz in very comfy bed!

The stay was quite nice and the hotel staff was lovely : friendly and very helpful. We would return to Hotel Durant . The only thing missing was that the hotel usually has ice water in the lobby and we figured we would get water before our departure but there was no water available and it was 10:30 am .

Wonderful staff! Friendly, helpful, competent. Fabulous location - two blocks from campus. Rooms are dumpy, and the walls are very thin - lots of noise. Be sure to ask for a room with a view of the Campanile that will ease a lot of the misery...

We loved this hotel. Very centrally located (CAL, Greek Theater, etc.). Nice rooms with fun Berkeley-esque decor. Bed was queen, but very comfortable. Ask for quiet side of hotel. Henry's, the restaurant/bar, was terrific! Food was excellent and well-priced. We will be back!

It was a great location for our needs. Friendly accommodating staff. Would not hesitate to go back again. Traveled with adult daughter and we all felt safe and in fact had a blast.

This was a FANTASTIC location! The room was comfortable. We enjoyed ourselves.

This hotel is in a great location if you are visiting UC Berkeley. Our room was large and had high ceiling but could have benefited from updates.

Bad smell. No staff courtesy. Too expensive for the quality

We went to Berkeley for a friend's wedding at Berkeley's Redwood Grove. We chose Hotel Durant because of the location. The staff was super friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room was clean and functional. We didn't spend much time in the hotel room, just used it mainly for sleeping. The bed was very comfortable. The biggest plus was the hotel's location. We were able to uber back and forth to the Grove for rehearsal/ceremony for relatively cheap. Also, there were a lot of restaurants in the area. Because it was summer break, although there were some students, it was relatively quiet.

I have been to about 9 hotels in Berkeley with a few repeats but Hotel Durant is the one I prefer to stay at, although whether I do so or not depends on price. It is one of the finer hotels in Berkeley, although not San Francisco 'type of fine'. Location is great, literally right near campus and close to many bus lines. Rooms are small but the beds are comfortable and has what I value a lot: in room safe and free wi-fi. It labels itself as a 'boutique hotel' so its decor is unique compared to the usual humdrum seen at chain after chain hotels. It has a restaurant/bar downstairs that serves food until about 9pm, but as stated before...this is a PRIME location. There is food everywhere around! Berkeley is not really a hustle-bustle all hours of the day and night type of city so it's pretty quiet at night unless it's a Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night when the youngen's go to the 2 nearby bars (Kip's and Pappy's). I would come again.

It was a good experience to Durant. My friend also likes to stay at this hotel. I recommend this hotel !

Hotel Durant is a four-star hotel but provides only motel level service and amenities. The hotel price is high, but hotel is small, room is small, everything is small. I definitely will not recommend anyone to stay at hotel durant. Motels on University Ave are much better than Hotel Durant

Such a cool decorated place with nice bar, great location. Great bathrooms and robe!
