Friendly professional staff

Poorly managed

We had a 3 day, 2 night stay @the Hilton Garden Inn, Merrillville, Indiana and we were very pleased. The hotel appeared welcoming, well lit and fresh. Their were sanitizer stations throughout and the mask mandates/social distancing practices were be followed. The hotel's front desk clerk, Kay was professional and professionally dressed. She greeted us immediately with a smile and her tone while speaking to us was upbeat. The first night I expressed my dissatisfaction with the room because someone was smoking cigarettes and marijuana and the aroma was coming through our vent. I know by the hotel being a smoke free building, everyone is NOT GOING TO adhere to and follow the rules. My child has Asthma and even with the use of her Inhaler, breathing in the room became unbearable. I spoke with Kay. She was extremely kind, apologetic and gave us another room without hesitation. There was no back/forth of this or that. She executed immediately. Though I had to re-sanitize, spray disinfectant and wipe down the 2nd room, I was so grateful that she was able to accommodate us. The next morning while waiting at the front desk to personally thank Kay, I observed her interactions with other guests. Again, she was patient, kept her cool and remained professional the entire time. Upon checking out, her supervisor was equally kind and patient, as I had a question. I don't remember his name but he deserves to be mentioned as well. The owners/mgrs should appreciate those two!

The staff were very friendly, the room was really nice and clean, and the jet tub was amazing. Definitely planning on staying here again!

I usually LOVE sleeping in hotels... But this bed felt like a piece of plywood with a thin couch cushion on top. Not Hilton standards!

The staff at the Hilton Garden were wonderful and very accommodating. The facility was clean and fresh. A great port in the storm!

Hilton Garden Inn Merrillville was fine - a nice enough hotel - nothing really to complain about. We've stayed at several HGIs over the years. I was a little disappointed that only paper cups were provided in the room, and only two bath towels. Granted, I guess I didn't pay for a luxury hotel, but I would have thought anything with Hilton in the title would at least provide you with some real glasses or mugs. The Keurig coffee machine was nice, but it seems like they should give you two of each k-cup, so at least each guest could have one cup of regular coffee or decaf. Also, it was great that there was coffee in the lobby in the morning, but it would be great if they could keep out the hot beverages all the time, like many other hotels do. Everything was completely fine, but not quite as special as I had hoped. Completely reasonable hotel, but not as nice as other HGIs I have stayed in.

Hotel is nice. Surprised with rate that breakfast is not included. Pool area is fun for kids!

Visiting family in the area. Good location at crossroads of major highways with access to shopping and restaurants. Room was clean and quiet despite the hotel being full and a rather boisterous family reunion going on downstairs. Staff was very courteous and helpfull.

The hotel was clean and had absolutely everything we were looking for. Unfortunately, the air conditioner in our room worked mediocre at best. While the fan blew fine, the air was not very cool at all. Also, the photos on the website make the pool look large. In actuality, it was very small and the water was too cold in my opinion. Other than that, our stay was great!
