A nice hotel, well situated for the beach or train into Lisbon. The room was clean, well maintained and a reasonable size. The bathroom was good, with a shower above the bath and plentiful hot water. the hairdryer in the bathroom was fine, so my wife said. The toiletries were replenished daily, a nice touch. Breakfast was good with a large selection of food on offer. At the evening meal there was something to suite most tastes, typically as in a lot of warm countries the food is served warm rather than hot. Take your kettle if you want tea in your room. The staff were pleasant, efficient and helpful. The only downside of the hotel is that the walls are a bit thin and at times you can hear other guests talking loudly or opening and closing their wardrobe doors. I would go back there.
I see it as 3 star hotel that is good and I think 4 start designation is a bit too ambitious. The rooms are simple but sufficient for a decent night. The views (make sure that you have views of the bay) are gorgeous and it is also very close to beaches and the promenade.
I would have rated this hotel above average, however, a few disappointing aspects mean I can only rate it as average. Firstly the rooms are fine, mine was dark though with only one small window. We did not eat here in the evening, but there was a good choice for breakfast. The disappointing aspects were: 1) It took an absolute age to check in. 2) The electronic room keys were very inconsistent, some times they worked but often not. 3) Room was not made up one day. So, all-in-all...just average.
On the 2nd day of my holiday I was taken unwell. The staff on the front desk and Andre were on hand to assist me and organised an ambulance to take me to the local general hospital in Cascais. I cannot thank them enough for their caring attention and friendly attitude. I would have no hesitation in recommending Vila Gale to future travellers and should I happen to be in Estoril I will certainly be reserving a room there again.
We stayed here for 6 nights in August. The location was great just across the road from the beach at Estoril. The hotel was welcoming, clean as were the bedrooms and the breakfast was very good. We'd a lovely room with a sea view. We also made use of the hotel swimming pool and spa. Walking distance to a great selection of restaurants along the seafront and promenade to Cascais. We also visited the Summer market in Estoril which had a lovely selection of places to eat as well as local crafts. The staff at Vila Gale were very helpful and we would return again.
This is certainly not what I would classify as a 4 star hotel. It has not been refurbished in what feels like decades. The air conditioning unit in our room trickled out and even though I asked for it to be fixed, all they did was remove the rotating panel, which solved nothing. The safe in our room had no lock, so had to carry valuables around with us all week. No iron available. The room was clean but room service failed to clean on one day. What was really poor was the build quality. We could hear conversations in rooms either side of ours and were constantly woken by guests simply opening and closing their doors. Breakfast was average, so we ate at the highly recommended pastry cafe opposite. The staff were pleasant. I have stayed in much, much nicer 4 star hotels.
Positives: Rooms are larger than normal with good amenities. Breakfast has good choice and is regularly refreshed. Staff are very friendly and helpful Good value for money Negatives: The lifts are a little cramped and wasn't possible to borrow an iron
One night was enough! Old, dirty, it's like being back in the 80's, this place hasn't been refurbished since then. Air conditioning machine out of the window very noisy, used bed blankets and the bed sheets are too short, they don't cover the lenght of the bed (never seen anything like this). Personel on the other way is very kind and professional especially at the reception.
Very friendly staff, the rooms were clean, nice pool to relax, close to the beach and train. Perfect hotel for combination of citytrip (to Lisbon) and beach holiday! I would return here in the future.
Stayed for 2 nights in January with breakfast included as part of a city break package by British Airways. The inclusive breakfast surpassed my expectations. Pretty decent spread at the buffet and good, kind service. Front desk was welcoming and helpful. Check-in was very quick, which was nifty considering how late we had arrived at the hotel (10PM). Room was clean and tidy. Daily housekeeping services re-tidied the room adequately. Bathroom seemed quite dated but clean nonetheless. Was a comfortable stay and rest.
