Two friends and I were desperate for a room and we came to Calypso hotel because there were rooms available. It was late at night (1:30 AM) and we just needed a place to sleep. Upon arrival in our room, no lights, air conditioning or electrical outlets were working. We called the front desk (Erika) and she sent someone up to turn on the electricity. We had told the worker that the air conditioner was not working and was advised to wait a while for it to begin pumping cold air. The room was scorching hot- much warmer than outside. We all took cold showers and tried to sleep while we waited for the air conditioner to begin working. After waiting two hours, we finally called downstairs again about the problem. They sent another maintenance guy up to our room where he tried to fix the air conditioning. After him realizing that the air conditioner was broken, we asked to switch rooms. After FINALLY switching rooms, getting settled in, and getting the new air conditioner in the new room to work, we all went to bed at around 5:30 AM. Being exhausted from a long day, it was unfair to have to deal with this problem. That same morning we had to wake up at 11:00 AM to check out at 12:00 PM. When we went to check out, I advised the assistant manager and the front desk receptionist of what had happened. I told them that I either wanted a refund, to be able to stay another night (as I was needing another night somewhere) or a deserved discount for another night. Nothing was done. In fact, we were told that we should have left the hotel at 5 AM if we wanted a refund. This seems to be a bit extreme to kick out hotel guests because your guys’ rooms to not live up to regular standards. Where else would we be able to go at 5 AM? We escalated this issue to the manager where we were told (OVER THE PHONE. He would not even meet with us) that all we could have is a free breakfast. We ended up just leaving the hotel and were referred to contact the sales department. In all- we paid $88 dollars for 5 and a half hours of sleep. As you know, summers in Mexico make it very difficult to sleep without air conditioning. Our room did not even have a FAN to cool us off. The fact that we were mistreated so unfairly is unbelievably disappointing.
The hotel is clean and comfortable. Last day I requested a late check as a courtesy and they just gave me half an hour more than the regular check out time. Which is understandable. However, there were no water neither electricity and for that reason I asked them to be a little more flexible as I had an international and long flight ahead and wish to take a shower before leaving. No, no and again, no. That was the answer. No hospitality or empathy at all. I doubt the hotel was 100% occupied!
Dont stay here you will have your money taken you will file a police report you will be told you will be reimbursed but you wont!! Months later nothing!! Stay far away! Spoke with management they stated they would file insurance claim and send me my money as of today nothing!! So many lies!! I have been coming to Cancun since I was 17 I wont be back!
I prepaid for breakfast but did not get it. They said Booking.com did not include it. The motel was ok at best. The staff is friendly. No ice machine on site. The swing bar had not seen activity in many years. The location was excellent though. It was walking distance to several boat excursions.
Hotel is older and not on the beach side. However, for the price paid it was acceptable. Rooms need to be updated as well as their WiFi. Elevator is like an amusement ride. You never know what floor it'll will stop on and the display will note 14th floor when there are only 10fl. Pillows are really hard. However the grounds around the pool and the back area that used to be an outside bar with swings instead of chairs is a cool place to hang out with friends late at night
Please think twice before staying here!! My money was stolen from my room the day before we left! I was told the police were called waited until after 12:30 pm they never showed up! I had to take a taxi with the last of my daughters money to go to the police station. I was told they never received a call. I filed my report and nearly missed my plane! Very convenient this all took place the day before leaving. The hotel is incredibly run down pool is a disgrace no towel no beverages as they advertise. Basically a huge disappointment. After going to Cancun for 20 years I now don't see myself going back! The only one good the was Francisco the bell boy he was a very nice man!
Stayed here one night on my way to Cozumel. Got in to Cancun on an early flight but hotel was strict about not letting us check in until after 3pm. Hotel and Pool is run down but location is across the street from the beach. Two blocks away there is an OXXO and a great hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant that is terrific. Bus 1 and 2 that take people up and down the hotell zone and to Walmart/downtown has a stop one block from the hotel.
This hotel is a must avoid at all cost. From not having an ice machine, refrigerator in room, no coffee maker, no safe, elevators that "bounce" and stop an inch too low or high, to not having any staff that speaks english, to being at a poor location with no beach access (public beaches miles away), and no internet except in lobby, which didn't work while I was there, to a restaurant that just shouldn't cook anything. Rooms were so extremely noisy and no escape from the banging sound of the elevators. Staff was rude and definitely not customer service oriented. This hotel is the equivalent of a Mexican flop house. AGAIN... AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!
I took my family for our first family holiday..myself my 3 children and my sister and her son..so that's 3 adults and 3 children. My twin boys aged 9 both have autism when booking this holiday I asked several times is this hotel autism friendly as autism isn't a physical disability and therefore children get judged as bad behaving children. I was told oh yes it is many families with special needs children have been. So the second day sunbathing on the loungers we see the life guard talking to another customer who happened to be Spanish both talking in Spanish he looked quite angry obviously slagging off the English as we can all pick up on basic spanish I pulled him up about it which he then told me oh no the problem is not with you it's with them pointing at the Caucasian family yes I'm Indian so therefore they didn't know what the hell I was. That's the first problem the second. My twin boys both love the pool and we're in it with their 10 year old sister everyday as was my nephew and myself and my sister at times if we weren't in the pool we were right next to it. So my son's in the pool and they like bobbing up and down he distressed my non verbal son by shouting at him thinking he's drowning which he wasn't as we were all there and he'd been doing what he had been doing all week bobbing up and down so he reaches out and pulls him out which of course upset my son who went straight back in the pool crying as he was crying historically being so distressed water was going inside his mouth which caused him to choke and struggle in the pool when asked the lifeguard to get him out as I'm a poor swimmer he refused he said he had saved his life once already and it's not his job to actually get into the pool plus he's saved his life once and won't be doing it again he also accused us of neglecting my children and leaving them to do whatever they wanted all week haha but sorry those of you who actually care for autistic children can answer this when do you ever leave autistic children to there own devices?! Never! That would be demolition in progress! But anyway trying to complain about this issue was totally hopeless manager wasn't available surprise surprise wasn't available until we were back in England of course! A lifeguard refusing to do what's in his job description isn't important in this hotel. So therefore my message is basically to those families who have special needs children who love the water to NOT choose this hotel i feel with this lifeguard remaining there our special needs children's lives would be in danger he also called them and problem and I'm sorry he didn't get a punch! The dinning staff I have to admit were absolutely brilliant 10/10 for the dinning staff very polite and friendly treated my boys perfectly and my son's had a lovely relationship with them hugging them and actually picking up a few words of Spanish from them honestly the only issue is that one lifeguard and if I was promised he wouldn't be there i would book again but right now I will not be going back to Spain in a hurry!
I got put up in this hotel because Cubana Air decided it didn't feel like flying for many, many days. (FYI never fly Cubana). This is certainly just a very...budget hotel don't expect a resort or anything. Wifi only in the lobby/pool area and works decently well. Staff is really nice and helped organize taxis, recommended places to go out, etc. The pool area is very ok. There's a pool and some swings. There's no bar inside or outside. The restaurant is terrrriblee!! But then again that might be because Cubana told them to give us whatever they had. Rooms were decently spacious, clean, no complaints. No fridge though.
