Pretty basic hotel. No wifi in room. No ATM. But other than that nice and clean and it was in the hotel zone so that made it easy to catch a taxi or bus.
This hotel was one step above a Mexican flop house. Avoid going here at all cost. No ice machine. Elevators bounce and stop inches above or below floor. The restaurant is a joke, no one ate there. The staff is rude, don't speak any English, and are of no help what so ever. This hotel was so bad that I spent one night out of the 8 booked, and had to go somewhere else to stay. Still had to pay for the week. Do not waste your time or money here. No frig, coffee maker either. Furniture was falling apart, and dirty.
The Calypso is hands down the best value for my money in Cancun, clean, comfortable, bare bones hotel, did I say clean?. Located across the street from the Barcelo(I stayed there last august, paid 10x more and felt a lot better at the Calypso). The free breakfast at the Calypso was great! Loved the Mandala beach club pass offered, this club is 10 minutes away by car, or bus, take advantage of it, it is a great value! We sat on a shady palapa, had a cold beer and swam in the wavy ocean and on their well maintained pool, they also have outdoor showers and great music. I will def be back, just be adviced if you are looking for luxury, this is not the place to go, but if you want a budget place, not on the beach, free wifi on the lobby, free hot breakfast, easy access, nice employees, get there asap!
My wife and I stayed here 2 nights.. Hotel rooms were clean..beds were a bit to hard for our taste... Location was perfect for us because Isla Mujeres ferry is across the street. WiFi was hit & miss on the 6th floor.
The pros: this hotel is in a great location at the beginning of the hotel zone (closer to downtown than the airport) and a short walk to captain hooks dinner cruise (awesome time). The staff at the restaurant and the bell boys were really helpful as in many places throughout Mexico. The cons: when I booked the room I had opted to pay extra per night to upgrade to the suite thinking I would have all the amenities a typical suite would have like back at home ie: fridge, stove, sink, seating area etc... When I checked in I was given my keys plus the remote for the AC and TV (this is the really old fashioned way a hotel used to do business). When I went into my room I discovered the room had a kitchen but no fridge. I asked the bell boy and he stated that the rooms did not come with a fridge but if we had to store insulin that they could provide us with a small fridge. I went to turn on the faucet and there was no running water. I asked the front desk about the fridge and the faucet and she stated that the hotel used to be apartments and that all the suites were the same and none of them had refrigerators and running water in the kitchen sinks and that they advertise the suite as just more living space and not as one would expect with all the typical amenities. The rooms came with a safe but you needed to pay an extra fee per night to use it. There was no ice machines but we were told we could buy ice at the store across the parking lot. They had wifi but only in the lobby and the pool area not in the rooms and only 1 out of the 2 wifi connections worked. They're aware of the wifi problem as I heard other guest complaining about the wifi but did nothing about it. Upon check out I was told I needed to turn in the remotes along with the keys. The front desk called up to main table to check on the room and verify nothing was missing before I was able to check out. This is a very old fashioned hotel that will take you back in time. it was very clean and besides the suite having an almost full non operable kitchen. Everything else was great. So unless you need the extra space like the living room which we didn't end up using whatsoever just save your money and go for the basic room without the suite
Great location, steps away from 'las kekas' delicious 'hole in the wall' mexican sopes, tacos etc' the hotel staff was awesone, lobby personnel could be a little more customer service oriented but everybody else was super nice and helpful, this hotel is across the street from the beach, there is a little store in the front building with basic neccesities value priced! Balconies are scary! Only waist high, from the eight floor I felt they were a liability and an accident waiting to happen, however I will definitely consider staying in this hotel, the room was impeccable, nice TV, free wifi in the lobby only, overall an 8 out of 10, reserve this hotel online for discounted rates.
