Traveling from New York to Miami

With its temperate year-round climate, beautiful beaches, and a wealth of ways to relax and entertain yourself, Miami is the perfect destination for New Yorkers who want to get away from the city's harsh winters. Traveling from New York to Miami is easy when you use to book cheap airfares, find discounted hotel rooms, and rent a car.

New York City, New York

More than eight million people live in New York City, making it the most populous city in the United States. The city is served by six airports, although most travelers fly into and out of one of the big three: LaGuardia Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and Newark Liberty International Airport. LaGuardia and JFK are both located in the borough of Queens, while Newark is located just across the river in nearby Newark, New Jersey. United and American offer nonstop service from Newark to Miami; Delta and America fly nonstop to Miami from both JFK and LaGuardia. All three airports are about 30 to 45 minutes from central Manhattan by car, depending upon traffic conditions.

Passenger parking is available at all three airports for around $33 a day. Many travelers prefer to avoid the expense of parking by taking a cab to the airport. From Manhattan, you can typically expect to spend around $30 on fares plus tolls to LaGuardia, $45 plus tolls to JFK, and $55 plus tolls to Newark. New York boasts an extensive public transportation system, and each airport is easily accessible by bus or rail. Bus service runs directly to LaGuardia, and the subway connects to JFK. Newark and JFK are also accessible via AirTrain, which connects to the subway, New Jersey Transit, and the Long Island Railroad.

Each airport offers extensive amenities for travelers, including shopping and dining. Stopping for a quick snack, a meal, or a beverage prior to your flight is as easy as stopping into any of the dozens of airport establishments, which include McDonald's, Starbucks, and Chili's Too.

Miami, Florida

Sunny Miami offers beaches, shopping, and outdoor activities in an environment that is warm and inviting at every time of year. Located in Florida on the Atlantic coast, it is the ideal place for New Yorkers to relax and rejuvenate in the middle of a cold northern winter.

Making the Most of Miami

After arriving at Miami International Airport, you can access your hotel or the city itself in a number of ways. Many people choose to rent a car, and can help you book a great rate on a rental for the duration of your stay. You may also choose to take advantage of public transit or hotel shuttles to reach your hotel, and taxi service to and from the airport is available outside the terminal.

The climate in Miami is warm throughout the year, with highs in the summer months approaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit and lows in the winter months generally hovering around 60 degrees. Hurricanes are not uncommon from June through November, and rainfall is heavier at this time of year. Average daily temperatures in the 70s and frequent sunshine make the winter months of December, January, and February among the best times of year to visit, although the ocean may be too cold for comfortable swimming.

No trip to Miami is complete without soaking up the sun at the beach. The weather is optimal for beachgoers at nearly any time of year, and the water itself affords a number of additional adventure options, including scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, and fishing. Miami is home to day spas, golf courses, and fine shopping, offering a dazzling array of luxurious and relaxing daytime activities. At night, the nightclubs give you the chance to strut your stuff on the dance floor or enjoy fine cuisine from around the world.
