St Pete–Clearwater International Airport is used by low-cost carrier Allegiant. The airport is located nine miles north of downtown and handles around 1 million passengers each year. There are hire car facilities on site, and the airport is also decorated with artworks by local artists.
Tampa International Airport is across the bay from St Petersburg. This much larger airport welcomes flights from all over the world and is used by 20 million passengers each year. It has more than 30 bars and restaurants and dozens of shops. It takes less than half an hour to drive from Tampa to St Petersburg, just 16 miles away.
Sarasota-Bradenton International is a 45-minute drive south of St Petersburg. Eight car rental firms have a presence at the airport.

There are taxis and shuttlebuses from St Pete-Clearwater International to downtown. Hire cars are available at all the nearby airports and parking is plentiful in St Petersburg.
A bus service operates throughout the city, but not all routes operate at night. In addition, there are two trolley bus routes: one around downtown and a second that travels along Central Avenue.
Another way to see the city and surrounds is by bike. The Pinellas Trail runs from downtown St Petersburg, through Clearwater to the north of the peninsula.
The Salvador Dali Museum looks spectacular from the outside and is remarkable on the inside. It houses the largest collection of Dali artworks in the US and there is even a virtual reality journey into the Spanish artist’s dreams.
The Sunken Gardens north of downtown are on the site of an old lake. The ornate gardens are up to 5 meters below ground level and home to more than 50,000 tropical plants and flowers, water features and a flock of flamingo.
Take a boat trip to Egmont Key State Park, located on an island south of the city. You can explore the beautiful island, snorkel and spot dolphins.
