O'Hare International Airport is located about 17 miles from the center of the city's business district and provides the majority of the air services for the city of Chicago. Airlines offering flights to Atlanta include US Airways, United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and Sprit Airlines.
Getting to the airport to catch your flight should be easy, as there are several transportation options from which to choose. Light rail service is available through the CTA Blue Line at a cost of $2.25 from the downtown area for the 45-minute trip. If you need to travel faster, you can take a taxi for about $40 and complete the trip in only about 30 minutes. You can drive to the airport and park in the long-term lot if it's more convenient. Long-term parking rates begin at $9 a day, but you'll need to schedule your space before your arrival at the airport if you intend to park for more than 30 days, or your vehicle will be towed.
Food is available for passengers if you wish to have a meal before boarding a flight at the airport. There are a variety of restaurants at the airport, and full sit-down meals are served at Wolfgang Puck and La Tapenade. For a quicker meal, you can grab something on the go from Chicago Style Hot Dogs or McDonald's.
Atlanta is the largest city in the state of Georgia, with an extremely diverse population that provides a unique blended culture. The arts are big in Atlanta, as are sports, so there are plenty of attractions for visitors to enjoy.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the busiest airport in the world. Located only 7 miles from the center of the city, it handles over 90 million passengers a year. Once you land, you'll have no trouble making it to the city using any of several available travel options. A city bus will take you on a 20-minute trip to downtown for only $2.50. If you prefer a taxi, the trip will only take about 15 minutes and cost approximately $30.
Visiting Atlanta is best done right at the start or the end of the summer peak season, which is between June and August. You'll miss most of the rain, but you should still be prepared for Atlanta's high heat and humidity. Temperatures can rise above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, so dress in cool clothing while you're there.
There are several attractions in Atlanta that should be high on any visitor's list. If you're a nature lover, the Atlanta Botanical Garden provides 30 acres of forest, gardens and wildflowers to explore. Sports lovers can watch the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome or the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Dream at Philips Arena. There's something for those who love music and dance as well, as Atlanta is the home of a professional symphony orchestra, an opera and a ballet company.
A trip to Atlanta gives you a chance to see an excellent city at its best. O'Hare International is well equipped to make your sendoff a smooth one, and Hartsfield-Jackson, despite being the busiest airport in the world, is easy to maneuver through. Once you're in Atlanta, you'll have a wide array of entertainment choices to enjoy. With Orbitz.com to help you choose what to see while you're there, you should have an easy trip from Chicago to Atlanta that's filled with great memories.
