Great place and location. Much nicer than the chain hotels

From the greeting at the door by the bellman, Leon, to the departure with Leon putting water bottles in our car for our trip to the airport...the customer service was excellent. Start to finish...the service was excellent. Don't you want to be treated like someone important? This is the Place!!

Fabulous staff, rooms are large, fireplace, free in room waters and sodas, full Delicious breakfast and evening wine reception. Bed was a little soft. Great location. Will stay there anytime I come to SF in the future.

Very good value for the money, the breakfast was excellent and the staff was attentive and friendly.

We came to SF to celebrate our anniversary. I picked out the hotel online and I was concerned that It might be too feminine for my husband's liking. But he loved it and told me over and over how fabulous it was. Our room was very spacious with a fireplace on one end and four poster bed on the other. Beautiful comfy bedding and mattress. Spectacular. It had a refer in the room. Only thing missing was a microwave. Staff was everywhere and so attentive. They made us feel cherished like a loving family member. Breakfast buffet was great, and even an evening wine and appetizer was included. Go - you'll be happy!

This place is a hidden gem and I would stay there over and over again. The staff were kind, thoughtful, knowledgable, and took the time to have conversations making it seem as there was nothing else going on. The rooms were very comfortable with ample space to relax and enjoy sitting near the fireplace. I had a late flight out and they allowed me to enjoy the parlor, called my transportation and carried my bag out to the vehicle. As my first time in the city I loved being able to experience it in a safe location with a specialized touch. The food was plentiful and tasty for the morning breakfast and the evening wine time. My fridge and complimentary beverages which was very nice to not have an extra charge added on. The only challenge was consistent wifi coverage in an older building. But that was the least of my worries.

I just fall in love with this hotel! Warm service, romantic, vintage room, enjoyable afternoon tea and breakfast. I'll definitely come back next time in SF.

The staff is what brought this place from great to extraordinary. Wonderful amenities, and a truly unique experience. Highly, highly recommend.

Great experience with affordable price. Clean room, nice location, and great services.

The White Swan has long been a favorite of ours. It has a relatively good location, walking distance to Market Street Bart, Union Square, and China Town. The downside is that it is up a very steep hill. This used to be a Joie de Vivre property, and at that time there were perks such as free room upgrades, wine in room, and points toward future trips. Under new management, the carpeting and some paintings have been changed, and the teddy bears are largely gone. The ancient elevator remains. It is quite quaint, but it has its moments where you have to take the stairs. This time we were in a king room facing the front, and there is considerable noise from a bar across the street. In the very small bathroom the shower handle and the towel bar both fell off at various times. It was quite warm, and raising the windows was difficult, but a fan brought out from the closet helped. Breakfast is as good as we remembered, but the wine and snacks in the evening disappointed. The one we attended ran out of red wine (it was replaced as we were leaving) but the dip for the vegies and some side dish were never replaced, and we weren't there that late. We never did see any cookies in the cookie jar. We might come back for the price, but if you can afford it, there are better choices in S.F.

The decor was very eclectic, but we loved the 60's retro aspect and music. The delightful breakfast was good. However, the most fun was the free wine offered every evening. Each night during this wine time we met new people from Sweden, Denmark, Australia, Brazil. The connections and discussion with each evenings small intimate group was excellent, and we were only there four nights! The location downtown makes getting around very easy. The only draw back was the comfort of the beds.

this is a wonderful quaint hotel at a good location. just a few blocks away from the trolley and street cars.

This was an incredibly cozy place. Open fireplace, big four-poster bed, a hu-u-ge room, by city standards. The "antique" elevator was fun, too, as was the crazy-quilt of intentionally mismatched wallpaper prints. The free breakfast buffet included in my rate was definitely above parr, too, with hot omelet or eggs with chives, all sorts of pastries, fruit salads, etc etc. If you like non-generic hotels or inns, and you like history, give it a try. I was also impressed with the genuine kindness and friendliness of all the staff I met. They seemed to enjoy working at White Swan, and not to be just faking their smiles.

The room and hotel furnishings were a little "beat up" and tacky lending to a dowdy feel. On the up side, the staff was one of the best I have encountered! They couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and accommodating. This hotel seemed to be located on a busy street and we had a room facing the street; therefore, it was noisy at night. By contrast, the "sister" hotel, located 2 doors down, was very upgraded in appearance and furnishings which was puzzling, as both hotels were owned by the same person.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the inn. I thought the room was comfortable and clean. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet and Wine hour. Staff was helpful and friendly

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Noise level in rooms very high with city sounds. Had to sleep with earplugs. Breakfast and wine /cheese buffets were best value.

The White Swan Inn was charming! The location was great, not too far from the Bart or Muni or walking to anywhere near Union Square, Nob Hill, the Wharf. We walked everywhere and it was extremely convenient. for all of our needs. The inn is renovating the rooms and they are fresh and clean. The breakfast was more than enough every day and all of the staff were very friendly and attentive to all our needs. We visit San Francisco often and will definitely return here.

Our stay at the White Swan Inn was highlighted by the excellent service from the staff. It began with champagne in the room for my wife's birthday. It continued with an upgrade to a nice room facing the street and lastly we received a bottle of red even though we checked in late and missed the afternoon cheese and wine. The rooms are clean and spacious. If you go for modern stylings than this might not be the place for you but if you like a Victorian setting with a warm comfortable parlor and library, then the inn is for you. Very good value and within walking distance to the theaters, 3 to 4 blocks blocks downhill. Just don't forget that you have to climb uphill to get back to your hotel.

If you're looking for relaxed and comfortable, this is it. While the big chains are kind of faceless and sterile, this hotel is warm and friendly. The breakfast buffet was truly outstanding, fluffy eggs, wonderful biscuits and croissants, good hot coffee. I'll stay again.

A great in-room fireplace. Excellent English breakfast, and afternoon buffet. Relaxing lounge. Friendly and helpful staff.
