Handlery Union Square Hotel

This hotel is well located. Within walking distance of the Powell St. (if you are arriving by BART from SFO). there is also a bus on Geary St. to go to Baker Beach. The room is a little small but I was alone si it's not a problem. The in-room safe uses a key (The key was hard to remove from the lock) and a coffee machine with a small fridge. There was a Iron board, hair dryer. The furnishing feels a bit old but it was very clean. The WiFi is easy to connect to but it wasn't enough to do some Netflix. There is a business room in order to print your boarding pass. They also had a swimming pool but I did not have a chance to use it (business travel). I would definitely stay there again.

Rooms in the old part of hotel are really small with no real windows.

Quick checkin. Extremely convenient location. Newly refurbished room.

Quick stay in SF for the weekend. The Handlery Union Square is in need of updating. We were in the Historic Building. While the room does have "character", it was dimly lit, carpet looks old and worn out, and just needs a facelift overall. No outside noise in our room but also no view at all and the A/C/heating unit in the ceiling of the room was so loud and ran all night to keep the temperature consistent. Parking is valet only at $56 + $8 parking tax. In fairness, parking in SF is expensive all around and it was convenient to just leave the car and walk everywhere as it is centrally located. Easy walk to Chinatown, North Beach, MOMA, etc.

I was most satisfied with the hotels system and hospitality.

In the past, we've stayed at another Union Square hotel. But our Handlery room was larger, had a refrigerator and cost less.

1/2 a block away from the busy union square where we frequently picked up the 'big bus' tour. We also walked to ALOT from here - pier 39, the ferry building, coit tower, china town and more were all in relatively easy walking distance (assuming you're ok with 20 to 60 minute walks.) Hotel had an 'old time' charm. We loved our room, bed was comfortable, room was clean, and even with a street side room (plenty of street noise into the early evening) we slept soundly. Most of the staff was very polite and pleasing, but there was one or two that just seemed 'put out' when we'd ask a question, but no big deal. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

The hotel's Historic building is beautifully refurbished while retaining the authentic look and charm of the older SF buildings. Nicely appointed, clean rooms with comfortable amenities and attentive customer service, plus a great location just off Union square making for easy, safe walking distance to near several good Irish pubs as well as to the Mason-Powell cable car stop and the Market St bus lines. SF hotels all go for about the same rate; we felt that this one provides commensurate value. Highly recommended!

Brought two grandchildren for their first trip to SF. Did the hop-on, hop-off tour (at recommendation of a John, the Concierge), walked, walked, walked. Lovely trip.

The hotel was fine. They upgraded us to a bigger room which was nice. But from the time we parked the car at their garage, with a rude attendant, to the time we checked out, the staff was indifferent most of the time. We usually stay at the Trident and the staff there is so friendly. Every time we walk into that hotel we are greeted by everyone, but that never happened at this hotel. We won't be staying there again.

Pretty much in center of everything, the hotel was nice, we stayed in premier section looking out to city. Pool area just ok, place to relax a bit at night...

The Handlery is an old style hotel, with all modern amenities. The room was somewhat small, but cozy and very clean. I loved our stay there and will definitely be returning on my next trip to SF.

Made a later reservation and knew nothing about hotel or area. We were very happy with our choice! We were close to the center of everything and less than a block from nearest public transportation. Staff was pleasant and helpful with all of our travelling needs. Would definitely stay here again!

Parking was offered at front desk no mention of charge. Parked one night and at checkout was hit with a $78.00 parking bill! Wow did not expect this as I could have parked across street for $25.00 for same 24 hrs.

It was so small and dirty room and also their hitting doesn't work

It was a hot couple of days. If it's hot stay in the new wing. A.c. works better there

Small old rooms for the price outrageous parking fees won't be staying here anymore will look somewhere different was our first time to San Francisco but won't be the last

Great location, comfortable beds, attractive pool allows for outside time. There are two Starbucks literally steps away which is good because hotel coffee is weak and tasteless.

Hotel was average at best, location was the best part.

We stayed in a queen size room 457. It is very quiet bc it faces the inside. All you see outside of windows is other rooms. It has good shades for privacy. Hotel is less than a block from Union square. Small private pool with rooms that have balconies overlooking the pool. Hotel has a convenient garage.
