When you pull up you can either valet or self park. We self parked and there is an entrance right through the garage to the hotel to avoid walking outside ( it was cold and snowing when we arrived). The hotel will link your room key to the garage for $26/day which is good to know because the garage says $40/day. The hotel lobby is beautiful, rooms were easy to find, clean and included starbucks coffee/waters. Otto's Pizza is amazing and only a few steps from hotel doors, everything else in old port is walkable. Easy check in/check out.
The hotel was in a great location, just a few minutes walk to downtown. Convenient valet parking so did not have to worry about my car once I got there. Friendly staff with quick check in. Rooms were clean. Perfect place to stay for a Portland getaway.
Our son was in a car accident and we needed to go to Maine to help him while in the hospital. They offered a hospital rate that made our 10 day stay affordable. A bonus was they also included a free breakfast with that rate. (Normally a $9.95/pp cost) I had only made the reservation for 3 days but the front desk staff was very understanding when I needed to extend it a couple of time.. The food in the hotel was very good for a small venue and the restaurant staff was extremely friendly. The only down side was there was only one elevator working and that was at the rear of the hotel and our room was on the 6 floor. Needless to say, long waits. Other than that I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone needing a place to stay while visiting a patient in Maine Medical.
At check in, I had a pleasant experience although the front desk seemed to be a bit confused but they were very kind and I did not mind. We were placed on the first floor by the lobby due to having a pet. Our pet does not normally have any issues at hotels when he is in his crate. However Throughout our stay though we experienced housekeeping vacuuming, knocking and talking extremely loud even though we had the privacy sign on the door. Furthermore it scared our dog so much he was barking from the loudness and anxiety. We understood and left a wedding to come back and sit in our room all night and console him so he would not disturb others. The noise continued until 2am. It was the worse experience we've had in a long time. I work in hospitality and I would never stay at this hotel or brand again - nor would I trust their site when it says dog friendly. They do not welcome pets but tolerate it. We stayed the night before with friends at the comfort inn and had zero trouble and a truly pleasant stay for the same price.
Portland, Maine is a great destination throughout the entire year. The Arts District, many outdoor opportunities, picturesque Old Port district, and amazing food attract many visitors. Portland is originally a fishing city, and there is still a working waterfront around the Old Port district, one of the main attractions in Portland. The fishing boats arrive here, so this is where to get fresh fish if you desire. The Old Port area feels quite European, thanks to the cobblestone streets and brick buildings, which are the perfect destination for wandering around. This is a great district to book a hotel at, since this is where the city’s real charm is found, or so it is said. Some points of interest in the area include the daily markets on Commercial Street, the many microbreweries that Portland is famous for, and eateries serving locally loved cuisines. Most importantly of all, you simply cannot miss the Maine lobster roll.
In the heart of downtown Portland, you will find the Art district. If you are up for a cultural trip, this is the best place to book your hotel. You will be able to just wake up and be at a museum or gallery within half an hour. This is including time for your breakfast. Keep this in mind, in case you want to spend your whole day around the cultural offerings, without having to travel far to your hotel. The main point of interest in the Art District is Portland Museum of Art. However, this is also where you will find the State Theatre, Portland Stage, and Children’s Museums of Maine. So, you can always find plenty to do in the area.
You will probably want to visit the green spaces around Casco Bay area during your time in Portland, but it might even be worth it to consider booking a hotel in the district. There are outstanding attractions to be discovered here. This way, you can combine entertainment and waking up by the ocean. Furhter points of interest are the Portland Observatory, the Eastern Promenade along the coast, and Munjoy Hill. A unique attraction is a tour by mail boat. Many Portlanders receive mail by boat, because of the islands that belong to the city. Therefore, traveling with the mail boat is a unique way to experience more of the vibrant city.
